Budget Car Rental operates a small kiosk on the ground floor of the International Marketplace Mall on Kuhio Avenue, next to the escalators. Many customers find the location and return process extremely difficult, with poor signage and convoluted directions. The counter staff can be efficient and friendly, but the location is often described as understaffed with curt employees. For after-hours returns, customers must park the car on level 5 of the associated parking garage on Kuhio and Walina Street, in spots marked for Avis/Budget. To drop off the key, a complex route must be followed to a drop box, involving elevators and navigating near the Herringbone restaurant. This process is likened to a difficult side quest. While the cars are generally great, they may arrive with pre-existing scratches and are not always completely clean or with a full tank of gas, contrary to the receipt. There are also reports of customers being charged for an extra day despite an on-time return. Due to these challenges with location, return procedures, and billing, some customers recommend renting from the airport location instead.

Definitely not worth the cheaper prices! Took over an hour to get a car, which cost us precious time on other timed activities we were supposed to do that day.

Fantastic rental service. Although the vehicle we rented was very dirty, and needed cleaned inside and out, the vehicle was available during an extremely busy Christmas week.
Prices were fair, and service was friendly.
