“I liked this store and have shopped here frequently, and unfortunately, incorrect pricing is a systemic issue due to the untimely or inaccurate pricing update. I routinely notice that items scan higher at the register than the price marked on the shelf. Most of the time, I let a few dollars go just to avoid the hassle, but the experience was a bit over today - the amount difference was not big, but I wanted to do the right thing.
While grocery shopping, I purposely selected a specific item based on its lower weight and lower price point. Sure enough, it scanned at a higher, incorrect price. When I brought it up, the cashier, Nat, a bit unwillingly, had to have someone verify the shelf price. Once they agreed to honor it, the correction was handled poorly.
Instead of fixing the total, they scanned the item again ( scanning total twice) at the original wrong price, reversed only the second scans, and then added the new corrected price. When I pointed out to Nat that I was effectively being double-charged for the item, she insisted she hadn't made an error.
Not wanting to hold up the line for the customers behind me, I paid and stepped aside. After doing the math on my calculator, I showed a supervisor exactly how the receipt added up to both the old price and the new price combined. Thankfully, the supervisor recognized the mistake and reversed the extra charge.
While the supervisor eventually resolved it, customers shouldn't have to do advanced accounting at the register just to avoid being overcharged.”
