“I had stayed here before about a year ago. It was a much different place then. They are doing some pretty serious, much needed upgrades. My wife and I needed a room, last minute, for our Thanksgiving stay. The room we got was comfy, cozy. The bed was super soft and comfortable. The room was clean and neat we we arrived and the front desk let us check in an hour early! (Thanks) The decor of the room was a pleasant surprise from what it used to be. A modern look with plenty of lighting options. I especially liked the backlit headboard. While having breakfast would be nice, I understand that it would raise the cost of the room (which I think was a deal for such short notice on a holiday!) All in all, you get what you pay for here, but they are working to upgrade the atmosphere and experience for guest. I'll be back again to see how the renovation progress is going!”

“Gracious service. The French fries were the best I have ever tasted. The Sole Meuniere needed more salt and lemon. The prawns needed more Rose Marie sauce. The grilled eggplant was outstanding. The beet salad was beautiful and delicious, but some of the beets were a little under-cooked. Our guest said that her Caesar salad was the best she's ever had. The stick toffee pudding was only OK. Our guest absolutely loved the trifle.”

“Staying at the Navy Lodge Great Lakes for our son’s PIR in March 2026 was the best decision we made for this milestone trip. Given the other local options, the price was incredibly affordable, and the recent updates to the facility were evident from the moment we walked in. From the initial reservation process to our arrival a few days before graduation, the entire experience was organized and welcoming.
Our room was spotless and thoughtfully equipped with a refrigerator and microwave, providing more than enough space for the two of us. It was especially nice to have that extra room when our son joined us during his liberty. While the in-room table was perfect for quick meals, we found the front lobby area to be a great alternative when we needed a little more space to spread out. The daily continental breakfast was another convenient perk that made our busy mornings much easier to manage.
The staff truly made our stay special, particularly Margaret at the front desk. Her warm, friendly attitude was a constant bright spot, and the entire team went out of their way to resolve any minor issues that arose. One of the biggest highlights was the hotel shuttle. Using it for the PIR ceremony made the day completely stress-free, and we were thrilled that our son was able to ride back to the Lodge with us free of charge.
The location is perfectly situated near the base, but it’s also close enough to explore the surrounding area. We even took a trip up to Simmons Island in Wisconsin, which was a fantastic way to enjoy some family time. If you are heading to Great Lakes for graduation, the Navy Lodge offers the perfect balance of comfort, convenience, and genuine hospitality.”

“I LOVE THIS PLACE! I am staying here now. How can I be so enthusiastic over a humble Home2? It's because I've stayed here several times over the years, and this hotel is CONSISTENTLY OUTSTANDING. The rooms are clean, the hotel is well-maintained, and the staff is friendly and helpful. I really appreciate that Home2 hotels have coffee and tea in the lobby all day long. The lobby is a wam and inviting place to work on your laptop.
To note: a good amount of sailors and families stay here for Navy graduation, so there is more noise and activity in the hotel on graduation days, but no loud partying or anything excessive. It's heartwarming to see the new sailors and their families celebrating!”

“Courtyard Waukegan was equally as nice as any other Courtyard I’ve ever stayed at. The hotel had decent sized rooms, a few amenities, and was very clean. The location is close to everything in Waukegan and within walking distance to a few others restaurants and hotels. This hotel is also about 35min from Chicago OHare and 45min from Milwaukee. This is a great spot with government rates and is 15min from NS Great Lakes. The staff was super friendly and again, nothing to complain about.”

“They didn't have a gluten free bread option at this location (according to the breakfast attendant) but this is the first time an IHG hasn't had that available in the 4 years I've been staying with the chain. The room was fantastic but housekeeping isn't as meticulous as I was when I cleaned for a living (grease splatter on cupboards, top of fridge dusty, someone else's hair left on bathroom counter and on shower wall and there was a spoon so jammed into the garbage disposal - but visible when cleaning the sink - I couldn't budge it, had to get maintenance). None of that is a big deal to me, just shows they are more about speed; turn the rooms over as quickly as possible rather than being thorough. Bummed I didn't have time to enjoy the pool. I would definitely stay here again, nice place”
“Keep in mind, when you're staying in a budget hotel, you really have to scale back your expectations. And you know what? It may be no frills, but I like this place. It's conveniently located near the Navy base, showers are hot with good pressure, and heater warmed the room pretty fast
The bad: front desk is hard to get ahold off, and you may be waiting in the lobby. Keys will fail, tiny toilettries, and vending machines for other toilettries like toothpaste is wild, towels are SMALL
The good (and what really sold me): I brought a tiny inflatable camping mattress, which I placed in between the two beds in the room. When I got back after the Navy graduation, not only were the 2 beds made, housekeeping even made my mini mattress. Sheets were folded, tucked in and everything. That was world class, and I'm deeply impressed by that simple gesture
While not my usual type of hotel I frequent, this place did exactly what I needed it to do: give me a place to rest my head. No more, no less”

“I am writing a review because of the experience we had with Janice, a representative who we interacted on the phone with to request help with an out of the ordinary circumstance at the Marriott Resort in Lincolnshire, Illinois. We had originally booked a stay to celebrate my daughter's 9th birthday, but she suffered a serious leg injury that left us uncertain about whether we'd be able to make the trip.
Every time I called with another question about our stay, she greeted me with kindness, patience, and a genuine concern. She is exactly the kind of person you hope is running the front desk and in charge of training others. It's been a rough week for our family but her kindness just really stood out in a dark moment for us.

“We went to the Westin for a conference and enjoyed our stay there. The hotel has everything including restaurant and bar, clean and well-maintained gym and pool, and clean and large rooms. It is a good place to hold an event. 10/10. I would recommend to anyone in the area.”

“Staff was great, room was perfect for my needs and the rate was reasonable. My only issue, which I forgot to mention at the desk at checkout, was there were a few ants in the room on night one. It was maybe half a dozen on the floor, but I cleaned them up and never saw any again. Other than that, I enjoyed my stay. Great water pressure in my room and no issues with temp like others have mentioned.
Altogether, a good experience for my first trip to the Chicago area.”
