“Our family’s first road trip since our 2-year-old was born almost ended 500 miles from home.
We were on our way from Michigan to the Smoky Mountains when, just after crossing into Kentucky, our SUV suddenly overheated. Every warning light came on, the temperature gauge buried itself in the red, and panic set in. Imagine being stranded that far from home with your wife and three kids in the southern heat.
I managed to duct tape a blown coolant hose and limp into O’Reilly Auto Parts, where we met Keith.
From the moment he greeted us, his confidence and genuine concern made us feel like family. The replacement part didn’t exist anywhere nearby—the only one in the system was in Boston. Keith called other stores, searched every option, and then said something I’ll never forget: “We’re not going to let this ruin the kids’ vacation.”
Instead of giving up, he helped us engineer a better solution using bulk hose and upgraded clamps. While my wife and kids stayed cool inside the store, Keith helped get us safely back on the road.
We’re now relaxing in our Smoky Mountain cabin, 255 miles later, without losing a single drop of coolant.
