Petco
12695 Shelbyville Rd, LouisvilleI was recently given a fish tank and stand. So, I went to Petco in Middletown to buy the other supplies I needed. I was greeted by a friendly person who quickly admitted she was not a fish expert. She chatted with me until someone who was a fish expert was free. I'm terrible with names and I wish I could remember, but the lady who then helped me was very knowledgable and helped me find almost everything I needed. She even suggested an item on Amazon (it wasn't sold at Petco), that would make my life easier. This store did not have the size canopy or light I needed as apparently it's a very unusual size, but no big deal. I went home, set up my tank, and the next day I went to the Petco location on Hurstbourne. I was again warmly greeted and talked to someone about the glass canopy and light I was trying to locate. It's not sold at Petco, but she gave some ideas of places to try. Again, really appreciated the helpful attitude that didn't feel like they only wanted to help if it was sold at their store. I went down the road to try PetSmart and the difference in customer service was stark. The PetSmart employee seemed bored and not interested in helping me, even though they DID sell the tank and stand I had as a kit that included the light and canopy. But, they don't sell them separately and he basically told me well, that sucks. Two days later, I contacted one of the places that was recommended to me by the team member at the Petco Hurstbourne location and they can order it for me! Petco didn't have every single thing I needed, but I will absolutely be a repeat customer based on the helpfulness and kindness of everyone I interacted with at both stores, from the cashiers, fish department, and other employees walking around the store.

Bob always answers every question leaving you with no doubts or worries. Thanks to Carla the facility is clean, secure and pet friendly. The Highland Dog
1962 Roanoke Ave, LouisvilleOur first time using this kennel ☆☆☆☆☆first, they are excellent on the phone, answered dozens of questions... my old dog had not been kenneled for several years, so I was looking for a place that was calm, attentive, and spacious.... this place is a perfect fit for us... They have lots of photos on their website, and on facebook.... they also post daily videos and photos of how your pup is doing (not live real time), I feel like I left my dog at home with some friends, they are very organized with online enrollment, check-in and check-out.... they let me know everything about his overnight stay... this is a LARGE house in the highlands, no one lives there, it's devoted to kenneling, each dog has a comfortable space, they are attentive to special circumstances, such as elderly, siblings, anxiety, health concerns... they play with the dogs, pet them, talk to them... we have probably found our furever kennel

Doggonit dog training
2467 Glen Eagle Dr, LouisvilleI had an aggressive and reactive 3yo German Shepard that I just couldn’t get a handle on, barking like crazy, got out of my mom's grip when trying to walk around other people and dogs. After meeting Steve, he was a different dog in a matter of minutes. His training methods are simple and effective, he’s very honest and informative with how he helps train not only the dog but yourself as well. Within an hour and a half visit to my home, he has helped me learn how to get a handle on my dog and have a much more enjoyable life for not only me, but the dog as well. Overall, it was a wonderful experience with Steve and I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for someone to help train their dog!

Top Dog Training, LLC
3305 Barbour Ln, LouisvilleSpoiled by our first dog experience, we adopted a new puppy (Petra) that proved to be quite the handful. As much as I hoped for a quick fix, John taught us that the solution wasn’t a magical formula, but understanding and raising our new family member for a lifetime. He has worked with us extensively, and has helped us navigate several twists and turns (including severe anxiety when she was away from us). The entire journey he has adapted to what Petra needed, and he continues to work with us as we watch her make steady incremental improvements. He probably teaches us more than he teaches her since we are usually the ones messing up! Overall, if you want a trainer who truly cares about the relationship between you and your dog, we highly recommend John.

Alley Cat Advocates
3524 Newburg Rd, LouisvilleHumans are frequently awful. They do things to each other and the rest of earth's inhabitants that just don't make sense. I have a place in the country and, periodically, someone will abandon their cat or kittens or a pregnant mama cat on my land. They seem to believe that dumping these poor creatures into a strange environment to fend for themselves is somehow more humane than surrendering them to a shelter. It isn't. They starve. They get eaten by predators. They get hit by cars. They fight (resulting in injuries) and breed (faster than you can imagine) and get sick (lots of respiratory infections and parasites). People like me can't stand to watch that happen so we feed them. We make sure they have water. We trap them and take them to Alley Cat Advocates to get them spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and vet checked. We bring them right back to where they've been dumped or wound up after having the bad luck of being born feral. They live healthier, longer, more humane lives with someone looking after them as barn cats or community cats. My neighbors are aware of which cats have been TNR'd (Trapped/Neutered/Returned) by the universal ear tip that Alley Cat Advocates gives them. This helps us make sure that we don't send the same cats in for care repeatedly. Some of the neighbors help out by putting out feeding stations and shelter boxes. It's a community effort. Without the support of Alley Cat Advocates, we would not be able to help these animals. The work that they do to make the lives of community cats safer and healthier is crucial to the successful population control of stray and feral cats. We would be overrun with cats at this point without their low cost (sometimes free) spay and neuter services and several of the animals that have been dumped here would have suffered unnecessary illness and injury. If you're looking after a stray kitty or you've got a furry squatter in your yard or the parking lot of your business, give them a call. They can help you get that little feline snipped and vaccinated so that you don't end up with an entire colony (like me). If you just want to help them out, they are ALWAYS in need of donations to help with the cost of veterinary care and supplies for the work that they do. Please consider supporting their efforts.
