“I'm from a little town in western NY. Earlier this month we came to KY for my mother in laws' family reunion. On the way down the tailpipe broke due to rust and age. I went to one of the national chain shops in Frankfort for repairs. I had to leave it over night (Monday) and I was told they would call me in the AM with an estimate. At 2 PM the next day (Tuesday), I called to see what the holdup was. They claimed that they didn't have a hoist tall enough to work on it. I have a 1992 Ford E-150 van. Nothing really special about it. When I asked why no one had called, I was told they were "really swamped with business". I picked up the van and went back to my mother in laws. I was telling a neighbor my sad tale of woe, and he told me about Proctor's Garage in Harrodsburg. I had to wait until the next day (Wednesday) to call.for an appointment. The man said to be there at 8 AM the next day. That brings us to today,Thursday July 24, 2014. We arrived at about 7:45. There were several men in the office. I soon figured they were friends that come every morning for coffee and friendship. I was told later that it is a 7 day a week thing, even Sunday before church. Most left just before 8. Mr. Proctor went into the shop and at 8:03 He drove my van onto the lift. Mind you, up until now, we never spoke. Mine was the only NY van in front of one of his 2 bays, and he knew what he had to do. Let me tell you...I feel we were in the presence of greatness. Within about 1/2 hour he was completely finished. A new muffler was installed and he bent the tailpipe from a single straight piece of stock. It was a pleasure to watch him work. I was outside at the rear of the van looking in. Customers aren't allowed in the work area, for insurance reasons I'd say. When we went to the office to pay for his service, being that I was from out of state, I thought I might be taken advantage of. After all, it has been known to happen ! College St. They have one area that they can wash your car off before they send it through the automatic washer....or you can do it yourself..... vacuum it out and than wash your car yourself.... it's all up to you.... either one will wash your car clean for you.”
