FairyTails Pet Spaw
6049 Lexington Rd, WinchesterI adopted a dog from Fairy Tails. They were the best place to work with! First they let me foster a dog that I thought I might like to adopt, but she was too much for me. I had taken her to the dog park though, and a guy there thought she’d be perfect for a friend of his who owned a farm and a couple of weeks later a guy with a farm adopted her. But anyway, when I brought her back I felt awful because the foster just hadn’t gone well. She was just too big and too enthusiastic for my small house.
So a couple of weeks later I went in to see another dog. I knew when I saw her that she wasn’t a foster. She was my dog. She was a scaredy-cat. She had a couple of big bald spots, probably from stress. She wanted a treat, but not from your hand and not coming closer to you.
I think Heather may have been surprised when I said that I wanted this dog someone had hurt so much her spirit was almost broken. We had to switch the papers up from fostering to adopting.
That night at the house was telling. Val would knock something on the floor and then shrink to the floor and cringe. She’d flip over a stack of books and shake like a leaf in the wind. She obviously thought she was in horrible trouble. It took a while for her to learn that in this house, living things matter more than inanimate objects. Oddly, Heather had told us Val didn’t like to be lifted, but Val let me lift her onto the bed that night.
Heather checked in with me each day for the next few days — I’m not sure if Val’s situation was extreme enough that she drew special attention or if Heather does that with everyone.
She still checks in from time to time on Facebook because she loves her animals.
What we got with Val was a full health record from the time she’d been surrendered, so we knew shot dates, spay dates, other surgery and medical history. She’d also been tested with older children, younger children, big dogs, little dogs, and cats. She was chipped, all we had to was send it in. Heather gave us a goodie bag with poo bags for walks, cling bandages, and treats.
And we got Val! She’s still a bit of a scaredy-cat, but she knows if that tail of hers knocks something off the table, it’s not the end of the world. She’s happy, and now that I’m retired, she loves the schedule as she leads the way through the house when I wake up. Although some days I try to get out of bed too early and she stands with two legs on either side of me making it clear that it’s a day to sleep in.
She has what we thought would be a little brother now, but Val has made it clear that Loki is her son. Because of their sizes, they will always have that role, so, so whatever.
But I know Heather is always thrilled when she hears good news or even a funny story about Val. Like, after two years, one of those bald spots is finally growing some hair back.

A Diamond In the Ruff
604 W Lexington Ave, WinchesterI took my Maddy may this week it was her very 1st visit to a groomer she is an aussie doodle 7 months old and desperately needed a cut. They said she did great and I am looking forward to using them in the future and recommending them to people I know!

Boonesboro Animal Clinic
1500 Boonesboro Rd, WinchesterAs a child, we took our cat there. As a grown up, I continue this tradition. All of our cats and dogs go there. Even with this Coronavirus around, we needed to say goodbye to one of our dogs. They were able to take him in to examine him from the car, and returned with him so I could say goodbye in the car.

Pet Sitting & Training

Stonnie Dennis Dog Training & Boarding
1800 Cabin Creek Rd, WinchesterThe puppy course has been absolutely fabulous. There is so much valuable information, and so far I haven’t felt like there are any gaps in what I’m learning. It has helped me understand what expectations are appropriate for my puppy’s age, the importance of small daily progress, and how much the owner-handler relationship matters.
One of the biggest things I appreciate is that this course doesn’t just teach obedience. It teaches you how to understand your puppy on a deeper level, how to communicate more clearly, and how to actually enjoy the process of training. I feel like I’m learning how to build a dog that is confident, happy, and enjoyable to live with, not just a dog that knows commands.
The best part is that Stonnie is there with you through the journey. If questions come up or you’re unsure about something, there is guidance and mentorship along the way. That makes such a difference because you’re not just watching videos and trying to figure everything out on your own. The course itself is very thoughtful and thorough, but the added mentorship and support are what really make it worth it.
I honestly think the world would be a better place if more people took a course like this with their dogs. I can’t even imagine how nice it would be to be around more dogs that were raised and trained this thoughtfully.
That being said, this course does require dedication. It takes time to watch the videos, rewatch them, and then put the work into your puppy every day. But if you are already looking at this course, you are probably serious about wanting to do things well. And this is the kind of work that actually gets results.
I’m personally very grateful to be taking this course. It has helped me slow down, set better expectations, focus on baby steps, and have more fun with my puppy. I only wish I had more time to go through everything faster, but even working through it little by little has been incredibly valuable.

Valkyrie K-9 Training
525 Old Ruckerville Rd, WinchesterWe have taken one of our LGDs (Anatolian) here for training twice. She has a higher than normal prey drive for an LGD and we really needed her to be able to focus as we have a large farm with other dogs and animals. Her first training was for basic commands. And she came back to us with immediate response to all commands except "leave it" (she was only a year old and we were not expecting to have her prey drive corrected completely). So she went s second time closer to 2 years of age when she needed to really sharpen her focus and learn to leave the other animals alone on the farm. She came back a whole new dog! She no longer lunges for the chickens and ducks and when a chicken got into her area, she merely just picked it up and immediately dropped it when we saw her with the chicken and gave her the command to leave it. Highly impressed with the training here. Would highly recommend!!!
