“Heard about this family run garden through the grapevine and wanted to support. Called in before showing up and asked about a certain species along with details about height, care, etc.. Showed up a few days later to snag the plants. The team onsite was very helpful and knowledgable. Helped load the van up and also saved a couple bucks as they mentioned I do not need so many bags of top soil as I'd thought. Anyways, the plants look healthy but not sure on longevity just yet. This review is more for the hospitality and professionalism of the company as it was impeccable. Will update if I remember after a month or so to let you know how plants end up”
“Urban Roots deserves their solid reputation. I purchased a plant that I knew would need to be repotted in short order, so I also bought a larger clay pot. At the checkout, this very nice person offered to transplant it for me if I had a few extra minutes. Who does things like that any more?! Their plants are healthy and cared for, and their customer service deserves 5 stars! Highly recommend.”
“Staff is always friendly. Always willing to help get stuff to the car if you need help. They carry better dog food brands than generic chain stores. I love their reward program for our pet food.”
“This is a family run plant/ pet store that has a lot of selection and lower prices than the big box home improvement stores. The starter plants are obviously well cared for and thrive in our garden. They offer plants that do well in this climate and are knowledgeable about their planting and care. I don't think anyone in the area has the aquarium tanks and supplies as the Rose Garden. As an older person, it's nice that they will load bags of fertilizer, and other heavy or bulky items.I was into bonsai and was overjoyed to find their bonsai tool, supplies, and pot section. It's always a serene experience.”
“Large & extensive neighborhood plant haven with friendly & attentive staff. I crossed the train tracks (on the crosswalk) to get here, and was grateful for cozy seating areas in the heat. Plant selection is incredible, with species that thrive in many different conditions like air, underwater, regular soil, etc. The setup and display are visually appealing & educational; I recognized the diversity & resilience of plants I’d been previously familiar with through intentionally unique displays here. A bit pricey, but they seem to have frequent sales on plants, soil, and accessories. Great for shopping and/or a nice stroll on a cool day.”
“I have enjoyed all my visits to this garden supply store. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. The prices are always fair and reasonable as well. It’s my go to store for soil and nutrients. A lot more people sell Fox Farm soil now, but there’s price gauging out there and often these places don’t store their soil very well from the elements. Grow Wiser doesn’t store their soil indoors or anything, but it’s always in really good shape when I bring it home. Other stores I’ve found bugs and excessive moisture in the bags, even to the point of getting a bag of mud once or twice. Sometimes this isn’t a huge concern, but i often use soil for a lot of cactus mixes and transplants need dry soil for at least a few weeks. So in my case it’s a big bonus to get a well preserved bag of soil. I’ve learned a lot from talking with the main employee of this store also, he’s a friendly and helpful individual.”
“We recently had TPG completely upgrade our backyard garden. We couldn’t have been more pleased.
In the past, we’ve spoken with landscape companies from our immediate neighborhood about upgrading the garden in our front yard. Each of them either didn’t listen to what we had in mind or chose to ignore it. Their proposals were nothing like what we had in mind. Since the garden was small enough, we simply did it ourselves.
That wasn’t an option for the backyard, since the garden was far too large. So, we turned to TPG. Alex came out and truly listened to us. We were delighted when we received his proposal. It was everything we had in mind and more.
The work was done very efficiently, just two full workdays over a three-day period. The crew that did the work were very professional and left the work site as clean as possible at the end of each workday. As they removed the plants from the existing garden, they were careful to find the three or four turtles that we’d missed when we prepared the garden for the work.
The plants TPG provided were in excellent condition, with flowers in bloom on most of them. So, the garden looks impressive here at the outset. It will only get better as the plants grow and fill out the space. Already, the garden is even more impressive than what we anticipated looking at Alex’s proposal diagram.
Based on TPG’s reputation, we had fairly high expectations. But the whole project and the end result far exceeded those expectations. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend TPG to anyone looking for landscape work.”
“Everything is pretty pricey but that makes sense. Everything is from local farmers and growers. I've never gotten any meat, but the produce and bread is high quality. Love getting different kinds of mushrooms from them.”
“I can't say enough how happy I am with this place. They took the time to talk to me about what kind of garden I wanted, showed me plants, and made a drawing for me. They even went so far as to help me get my soil right. The high clay content in my soil evidently was why I had such bad luck with plants in the past. At least now I only have to choose a few flowers to brighten things up in the spring and in the winter my garden will not look like a wasteland. Shop local! You won't get this kind of service at a box store!”
“Great for pets and gardening needs. My family has shopped here for a couple of decades now and their prices are the best by far. Extremely knowledgeable about their products as well.”
“The florist Villere’s was able to come through for me when I needed them. I called up from Chicago for a delivery to a hospital nearby in New Orleans. A family member just had surgery and I needed the flowers delivered. They put together a beautiful arrangement to brighten her day! Thank you.”
“I ordered a Christmas tree from Banting's after seeing an ad online! I usually use a fake tree but wanted to try this! We ordered a 7'-8' tree, it came with FREE delivery and a tree stand!! The day after I placed the order, I was contacted about the delivery date. The tree was delivered today! The person delivering it gave me a call when he was about 30 mins out and when he arrived. He brought the tree in, set it up in the tree stand and took the netting off. He also gave me some pointers on how to keep it lasting longer and looking great! The customer service all around was fantastic and the tree is beautiful! I also felt that the price of the tree, especially considering delivery and tree stand was very reasonable.”
“This is a locally owned family business which has served west bankers for years. They have pretty much everything you need in order to grow roses, lots of other flowers, vegetables and herbs. Oh, and don't forget, trees suitable for transplanting into your yard. My favorite item: a fine selection of roses every spring, including many classic and new hybrid teas. They also have bedding plants (vegetables, flowers, herbs), seeds, and all the miscellaneous garden stuff - everything from manure to assorted organic and not so organic fungicides and bug sprays. Plus, the owner and many staff members are knowledgeable about local gardening and can give hints.”
“Can't believe I'm saying this: CLEANEST BATHROOM I've probably ever been to in any store. It smelled like bleach and even had free feminine products available.”
“Plenty of associates ready to help. Large selection of plants, flowers, yard care, and decorations. The line still backed up due to not many people going to self checkout. Turns out alot of people had items without barcodes and had to be keyed in. *Still Recommended”
“Great nursery! The owner is fantastic. This place is for real plant lovers who want to find unique plants in an all natural environment. This is not just another purchase, this is an experience!”
“Hubby and I are on Housing Project 100 . Lol . We was Served with Excellence as Always . The Store Manager Chris is always visible and there to help Customers and Employees . Kip and Alyssa was professional, informative and willing to help Customers. Thank you all for your great services.”
“Went in to buy a power drill. Great service from caring, well trained, well meaning, likable staff. This is a Home Depot. Nothing special but clearly well managed and better than what you expected from the usual Big Box store.”

“Went to the store to see if they have what I need, cause I really didn't want to get it online, I would rather face to face an employee of the store, but overall I love go in to see all the good deals”
“Shout out to Telvin, someone get that guy a raise!! Dude helped me make an exchange by hauling wall sets to and from my car, and was very patient while I inspected the new ones for cracks.
Overall very smooth exchange process and good customer service?”
“The Home Depot at 8601 W Judge Perez Dr in Chalmette, LA, has a lot to offer, especially with their pre-Christmas deals. I picked up some LED smart home lights for just $5 each, definitely a bargain!
Their tool selection is solid, although a few items didn’t stand out to me. One area of disappointment was their chainsaw selection, which was almost identical to Lowe’s. I’m not a fan of the market’s growing shift towards electric saws. Maybe I’m a bit old-fashioned, but I prefer shop tools that plug into the wall and outdoor tools that run on gas. Gas-powered tools remain more reliable in emergencies, like during power outages.
I had an interesting conversation with another customer about how electric chainsaws are reportedly causing safety concerns with chainsaw chaps failing—something worth noting if you’re shopping for one.
The staff was a mixed bag. While I found most employees distracted or unavailable, the cashier stood out for their friendliness and patience while helping me with my veteran discount. That level of service left a positive impression. Overall, it was a good visit, and I’d recommend this location for the deals and convenience.”
“UPDATE.
INITIAL PROBLEM:
If I could give zero stars, I would. Do not order online and have it delivered to a store, especially the HD in Elmwood; you’ll be waiting forever. My purchase, almost $300, was to be delivered between Monday - Wednesday. I called 4 times. The item is at the store, but no one in receiving is bothered to check in the deliveries. Surely if it were their purchase, they would be more willing to do their job. And whoever is manning the phones at HD is extremely unhelpful.
UPDATE
HD CUSTOMER CARE TEAM SOLUTION?
I’m changing my review to 5 stars! After posting my initial review, receiving a reply from HD, and filling out the grievance form they attached, HD made it right. THANK YOU! I reordered my item after canceling the first one, but lost my $15 promo. HD reinstated the promo code and I’ll receive my saw by Friday. I’m very grateful for the intervention!”
“It's your typical Home Depot. They got a lot of stuff, but can be a challenge getting assistance. I like the new checkout system. Very quick and helpful checkout attendants.”
“The gentleman at Lapalco Hardware that did my brake tag inspection was very friendly and helpful. He made the whole process simple, quick, and easy. I will definitely be back here for my next inspection.”
