Maine Pet & Aquarium
47 Downeast Hwy, EllsworthWe were up visiting in the area and tried to find “lick mats”. After looking in several different places for “lick” mats for our dogs, (we have 3), we had success here. What a great place! The clerk was great! I wish it was closer to my home:)

Small Animal Clinic
9 Toothaker Ln, EllsworthUnfortunate to read about the negative reviews on here as we had a good experience with Dr Toothaker and the vet tech/office admin we talked to on the phone prior to booking an appointment. We were a little concerned about the symptoms our senior dog was having and the office admin was great with walking us through urgent care options or booking an appointment for the next week.
I opted for the appointment with Dr Toothaker and waited about 15-20 minutes before we were seen, which I’m not surprised at since the appointment was in the middle of the day. We could hear him in the other room with another client before he popped into the exam room we were in. I found Dr Toothaker to be friendly(shook our hand and welcomed us as new clients), had a good sense of humor and entertained all of my dog mom questions. He had confirmed my suspicions on the issue at hand and was great at explaining the diagnosis, provided meds and a treatment plan to resolve the symptoms. He even provided other options for senior dog related issues that had nothing to do with the current issue at hand. I appreciated that. 10/10 would recommend!
I’d be happy to continue to go to Dr Toothaker’s while we are in the area for our dog’s health care needs!
Also, the office was big, plenty of seating and had lots of pet related art on the walls. There were 4 other dogs in the waiting area and we were able to spread out.
Also, we found the cost to be reasonable.
Price transparency for our visit:
$70 for the office visit
$22 for fecal exam/analysis
$7.50 for the meds

Union River Lobster Pot
8 South St, EllsworthWe ordered seafood platers, which were awesome. I got the mashed garlic red potatoes. My husband got French fries. The potatoes were glued with no garlic flavor. It was an ice cream scoop in a bowl. The top was crusted and dried out like it had been sitting under heat lamps for a long time. Husband said fries were hot and crispy. We also ordered oysters on the half shell. Being from the south, I was surprised they didn't have crackers. When I asked for crackers, I was brought a package of oysters crackers. My server was polite, but we had to wait on water refills. My glass was completely empty. We did enjoy the view as seals were playing in the water. A note to the owner. When there is always four or five employees gatered at the hostess stand talking and laughing loudly, it does affect the atmosphere. In fact, they would have to move to let people come in. There was always another group of servers standing near the kitchen area talking. I think our server got caught up in a conversation and forgot about us. Last of all for me personally, I don't think someone working in a restaurant, even as a hostess, should have a shirt on the shows her stomach.

Jordan's Snack Bar
200 Downeast Highway, 200 Douglas Hwy, EllsworthBy far the best fried scallops I have ever had. The onion rings are thin and crispy and not too greasy. The girls working the counter were friendly, knowledgeable and extremely patient with our group of 22 including 12 kids. The place is not fancy but it is exactly what you want from a roadside diner, clean and well kept. I would recommend Jordan’s to anyone with a hunger for good food. They also have an extensive non-seafood portion of the menu. The ice cream was awesome.
