“I took a trip to Fleet Feet yesterday to get fitted for some new sneakers since my trusty Nikes were probably over ten years old and I need something reliable to train in for my first half marathon this fall. I’ve had so many folks suggest this place to me over the years but I never made the time.I’ve always had trouble with shin splints, which cause me to need to take long breaks between runs, which has hindered me from making any sort of progress in the sport. My feet have also started recently to go numb about 5 minutes into any sort of jog or run I’ve attempted.I learned a lot yesterday:1. Turns out my sneakers were a whole size too small! Apparently you’re supposed to size up from your largest foot (my left is 9.1 and my right is 8.7) This will allow my toes plenty of room to spread and take care of the numbness.2. My lower legs need strength training. I’ve always avoided lower leg exercises like calf raises because I already have monstrous calves, but I was told yesterday that when your foot strikes the ground, the lower leg takes on the force of 2-3x your body weight which makes COMPLETE sense to me (Calf raises here we go)!The verdict: I snagged a new pair of sneakers, and for the first time in YEARS… as long as I can remember, I FINALLY ran a mile in less than ten minutes yesterday (I haven’t been able to get below 11 minutes). I did pull a newb move and forgot my inhaler, so I had to walk a bit in mile three to catch my breath, but I could NOT be more thrilled about how the right pair of sneakers has completely changed the game for me!!! Hats off to Fleet Feet of Portland!”

“Love this store! All the brands you find at big box stores (eg, Patagonia, Kuhl) but a nicer selection and a local, community-focused business. More of the everyday wear that you can wear out and about, to the office (if thats still a thing) or hiking/traveling. Staff is super friendly!”

“If you expect to be coddled (as reflected in a few of the 1-star reviews), this ain't your dive shop. If you want to talk to people who really know their stuff and are passionate about diving, who will spend a lot of time with you picking out the right equipment whether you spend a lot or a little, and who will go above and beyond to make sure you're in the right equipment, look no further. Just don't expect a BS sales person, the owner is very serious about what she does, and is very good at it. Be patient, wait your turn (it can get crowded here), and be respectful, and you'll find this staff friendly and accommodating.”

“Maine Surfers Union is a good smaller sized shop that I've been to over the years. Each time I've dropped by Charlie and other staff have been helpful and super friendly. In fact, one time I really needed some Futures fins during a swell and couldn't make it to the shop for a while so Charlie offered advice over the phone to decide on my best size and arranged to meet up with me near my local surf break one early morning-how can you beat that for customer service?! When I walk into MSU one thing that pops into my brain is "quality" - good brands and well made products that you may need to pay a little more for at times, but will last. Haven't bought a board here, but am always curious what they have for shapes-they don't offer a huge selection of multiple racks full of boards but I like that they stock USA made quality options and they update on social media board orders arriving to give you a sense of what's available. Also offer some surf books, local coffee and local craft beer to go.”

“I took their intro scuba class with Peter over the past few weeks. He was an great instructor and patient and made sure we knew what we were doing and why! I am very happy with my first scuba experience and it wouldn't have been as great as it was without Johnsons Sporting Goods!”

“Appreciate Scott for having integrity and honesty when it comes to buying gear. My kid may want something but he’s honest and will tell you if actually need something rather than waste your money.”

“If I could rate this more stars I would. Liam went above and beyond helping me pick out the perfect bag for all my needs and even helped me adjust the size so it was just right for me. If there were more helpers like Liam the world would be a better place. Definitely coming back! You have a repeat customer!”

“Sports galore anything you might want I imagine, big on hockey, it seems they have a trade-up deal where you can buy used also. I buy moon balls and lacrosse balls colored ones for bouncing great service the guys are knowledgeable as I saw them dealing with others there for more specific sports reasons at a higher level it seems they will get you right through college and into adult leagues who knows maybe even post stuff there. It seems hanging from the rafters just about all shirts jerseys etc you could imagine for team sports high school through college and pro summer rentals as well for paddleboarding I think and some wintersport rentals too I believe. Sports minded people should take a pass through oh I did get a quick lesson on pickleball equipment. Yeah it's a thing somewhere between tennis and ping pong and whatever you can get it there the best equipment all the way around”

“First time visiting and purchasing at an Athleta (8/24). Employees were super friendly and helpful. They went above and beyond in the fitting room, bringing in additional sizes and styles to help me find a pair of pants that worked! Thank you for a great shopping experience.”

“I worked there as a driver and I must have to say, Pete Higgins is a good and fair man to have as your boss. I liked my experience there and I would work for that man again.”
