“This is now my go to for gifts and spiritual things! I am in awe of the energy of the shop and the staff; I believe her name is Emily and she always makes you feel so welcome with her kind and bright energy! The manager/owner(?) is also a legitimate ray of sunshine! I want to live in this store!! (Can I?!)”
“Nice to know Hull’s Family Bookstore is still around. It came up in conversation the other day as my older brother once worked at the downtown location. It was a staple of my childhood many great memories and bibles verses memorized.”
“***English will follow***
Very good place to buy books, books in English you have a ton for $1 each (used)
It's worth it
Really good place for discount pocket books!
Half the library is all $1 pocket book and they are good to read.
Worth it!”
“Mom and Pop type of place. Privately owned and with the best service possible.
Upfront and direct about prices and store policies. No need to haggle here. Prices are fair. Hey they too have to make a living.
They also have an extensive want list on their website.”
“Has been quite a few years since knowing BisonBooks and her owner. Also bought some books from this store. Contact with the owner a few online. Very professional and patient, of course, very knowledgeable. Wish have a chance to pay a visit. Highly recommended”
“This long-established, well-stocked previously-owned bookstore will be packing up at end of February 2026 in order to relocate. The new location is as yet undetermined (visited 14th Feb 2026), so stay tuned. EDITED: To say I am delighted to hear from the very nice store owner that they will be in the same location for a while yet. I look forward to dropping in again and perusing the many selections in greater depth. A bientôt ???”
“This place is a gem. It’s got character out the wazoo. Part of that character comes in the form of the building itself. Old, dusty book shop ran by a cantankerous old man hard at hearing. This is not a bookstore where you come to find something specific because there is barely anything close to organization. You come here to let serendipity take its course.
It has a surprisingly good selection of comics and older dvd/blurays.
Don’t be too pick about decor and atmosphere, for that you can go to Indigo and pay the higher prices there.
Hours are odd just like the owner. Opens 11:00-15:00 closed Thursday. But these hours shift at the whim of the owner. So don’t too closely on them.”

“I went in looking for an Inuktitut bible and not only did I find what I was looking for, it was at an amazing price. My Inuit prayer partner cried when she received it. I’m looking forward to the complete version coming out next year, so I can get that for her too. Thank you for these special versions. God bless this ministry!”
“We were referred to Black's when our mum passed away. She was an avid collector of books, and we wanted to get an opinion on the value of some older books in her collection. Adam and Ana came out to her home in Toronto, and were so helpful and diligent and honest in their approach. We ended up selling most of the collection, and consigning a few of the more valuable ones with them. It was sad to see the collection go but we were happy that they will get to good homes. Couldn't recommend more.”
“Small store but pretty impressive as he has lots in a small space and if you don't see it ask he will be able to help you find it if he has it. I travel 8 hours to get to the city and since finding this store it will always be one of my regular stops.”
“This place is amazing! Wide variety of things to look at and maybe take home and love forever! An absolutely beautiful selection of Indigenous art including pictures, magnets, enviro cloths, bags, cups, candles, slip and more.... for really great prices!
I almost forgot the books, lol, so many to choose from in a lot of different categories.
I highly recommend checking out this hidden gem inside CMU, you wont be disappointed.”
“A beautiful store, friendly staff, a valuable part of the Winnipeg community! Spend some time in the restaurant, pick up some books, shop the gifts and treats, and your life will be better, I promise!”
“I try and get here whenever I am in Winnipeg, I have been going here since I was a kid in the 80s. Big kudos to them for staying on Portage Ave after all these years! Great store!”
“Since I'm mainly interested in music and biography books there wasn't an extensive choice for me but the other departments were satisfactory. A good book store in general.”
“Five stars, ten stars, a million stars, I do not care, Indigo St. Vital has peaked.
I walked up to the register holding Game Changers and Heated Rivalry like a completely normal person and the employee asked if I had seen the show, which immediately caused both of us to emotionally collapse in the best possible way. Suddenly we were deep in fangirl mode talking about how it owns our social media feeds, our brains, our souls, and how they were so cute at the Golden Globes that it should probably be illegal.
I came here to buy books and instead I got a full Rachel Reid support group meeting at the checkout counter. It was magical. It was healing. I may have briefly blacked out from joy.
This employee was so warm, so enthusiastic, and so genuinely fun that I left the store grinning like an idiot. A simple purchase turned into one of the highlights of my entire day and I am still thinking about it.
Indigo, please know you have a treasure working for you. And to the wonderful human at the register tonight, thank you for understanding my very specific brand of unhinged queer hockey romance joy. You made my night.”
“This is such peaceful, lovely place to shop for books. There truly is something there for everyone. Highly recommended!(FYI- it's best to call ahead to check their hours, which have changed recently, possibly due to covid rules.)”
“Right off the top, yes, there is no parking on Henderson highway, but don't let that dissuade you. There is parking on Noble Ave. which is close by just around the corner. Now for the review. What a delightful hidden gem. This store has it all (and probably more that I missed on my first visit). Candles, incense, fragrant oils, herbs, crystals, jewelry, books, tarot cards and readings... The list list goes on. And to top it off, the staff is very friendly and informative, so don't ever be shy about asking questions.”
“I ordered from this magnificent Toy Store online from outside the province and was given the most thoughtful, swift and whimsical customer service ever. Thank you for making even my online order a delightful experience! You folks deserve ao many accolades! Please shop hetr even if you're not in Winnipeg!!!!!!! Ribbit!?”
