“The only bad thing I can say about this place is it takes the shower about 10 minutes to heat up enough to get in but tonight it didn't heat up much past lukewarm other than that top notch beds and pillows and clean and new”

“I booked the Salamander in Washington, D.C. It was a gift for my mom because we both needed a getaway and some quality girl time. I can openly say it exceeded every expectation. This was my first time booking here, and I was immediately impressed by how beautiful the property is and how genuinely exceptional the staff are. From start to finish, everyone went above and beyond—kind, courteous, knowledgeable, and truly invested in creating a great experience.

Check-in was fast and seamless. The staff provided a thorough overview of the hotel’s amenities and also shared insight into the on-site Michelin-recognized restaurant, Dōgon. Located within the Salamander, Dōgon is a chef-driven Afro-Caribbean restaurant by Kwame Onwuachi that opened in September 2024 and is now featured in the MICHELIN Guide for Washington, D.C. It was also ranked #37 on North America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025. The food and overall experience absolutely live up to the acclaim.

I booked our stay through Amex Travel, which came with fantastic perks: early check-in at 12pm, late checkout at 4pm, a $100 breakfast credit per day, and a $100 experience credit usable anywhere on the property.

We chose the lounge for breakfast both mornings, and it was phenomenal. The service was excellent, the food delicious, and the weekend breakfast buffet was—without exaggeration—the best I’ve ever had. The buffet is offered Saturdays and Sundays only; otherwise, breakfast is à la carte and can add up quickly. We also ordered room service, which was pleasantly fast compared to other luxury hotels I’ve stayed at. Just note there is a $6 delivery fee and an automatic 19% gratuity, so keep that in mind if adding an additional tip.

We stayed in Room 515, which had a stunning view of the Jefferson Monument. The room was spacious and beautifully designed, featuring a soaking tub, marble shower, smart lighting with dimmer options, and even a doorbell so you can hear when someone is at the door. TVs are cable-only, but the hotel offers Roku devices upon request. The tech team was incredibly helpful, and setup was quick and easy.

What truly stood out most was the customer service, both throughout the hotel and at the spa. Every single staff member—from maintenance to front desk to food and beverage—was warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely happy to be there. That level of consistency is rare, even among luxury hotels. We recently stayed at the Four Seasons Baltimore, and the Salamander easily surpassed it in service.

The spa experience was phenomenal. The heated pool is included, along with lemon water and fresh towels. Spa access is $38 per person plus tax and is well worth it, though subject to availability due to limited capacity. While the spa is co-ed, during our visit it was all women. Amenities include a steam room, sauna, large hot tub with jets and lounge seating, and a quiet relaxation room (what I affectionately called the “meditation room”) where phones are not allowed. They provide snacks, tea, refreshments, lockers, plush robes, and well-stocked locker rooms with toiletries, luxury lotion, and beautiful LED mirrors. The only limitation is a two-hour time limit per guest, and re-entry is not allowed.

Overall, we absolutely loved our stay and enjoyed every moment of the three days we were there. I cannot wait to return, and the Salamander has easily earned a spot at the top of my list of luxury hotels. Highly, highly recommend.”

“5-Stars all around! We were in DC for a concert and at the last minute decided to stay the night and not drive home. We booked on Hotels.com, for a complete steal of $150 +$42 Valet Parking. Was well worth it, only a 10min walk to Capital One Arena. Staff super nice and polite. Room was much bigger than expected. Even got little chocolate mints. Very clean. Mix of a updated hotel, based in the 50's. They have a little bar in the lobby. Only issue was when we were walking to our room, one of the hallways both Snoop Dogg and Willy Nelson must have been staying, my eyes were bloodshot by the time we got through. Our room was fine. Great overnight, would definitely book here again.”

“I recently stayed at the Conrad in Washington, D.C., and I can’t say enough about the exceptional experience we had! The staff went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable, especially for my husband’s birthday. They surprised us by delivering a beautiful cake, a bottle of bubbly, and even candles to our room – such a thoughtful touch that really made our celebration special! Every staff member we encountered was warm, attentive, and genuinely committed to making us feel at home. The attention to detail and the kindness they showed transformed a simple stay into a cherished memory. Thank you, Conrad, for your hospitality and for going out of your way to make our stay so perfect. Highly recommend for anyone visiting D.C. – we’ll definitely be back!”

“Good usable hotel with a few restaurants, shops and CVS in neighborhood.

The rooms are OK but a little bit small for the price. Specially that there is no possibility to store not hanging clothes in the wardrobe makes me wondering? If you had to stay threre for more than an few days, you get in trouble with this. No shelves for t-shirts, underwear,.. You have to have it in your luggage or on desk? Crazy.

The personal is very friendly and the breakfast in "Gerards Kitchen" is very expensive, but good.

All together it was OK but almost to expensive for everything in the hotel.

The best was the ? shower head, what works very good, hot and really enough water. The best shower I had in DC in the past 10 years!

Rooms: Small but OK, very good shower.

Walkability: Next to a few shops, stores and restaurants. 10 by walk away from white house, Washington mall and "Black lives meters Plaza"

Food and drinks: Good dining and breakfast, but expensive in "Gerhards Kitchen"”

“First of all, the location is great.
I enjoyed jogging every morning to the White House, the Capitol, and the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials. There are many delicious restaurants and cafes nearby.
This is the best location for sightseeing in Washington.

It was a two-bedroom room, and one room had an independent bathroom and closet, so it was comfortable, and the other room had a wide bed and closet, so it was comfortable for four people to stay without being cramped.

The living room was surprisingly spacious and the kitchen was perfect for cooking.
(However, the knife was not very sharp.)

I stayed for a week and enjoyed Washington to the fullest.
I will definitely use it the next time I visit.”

“Stayed here the day I proposed to my lady and the hotel staff took such great care of us! After sending them an email in advance, we were given a room upgrade, bottle of wine + goodies and a reserved table with champagne at their rooftop lounge!

This place is an amazing option in Navy Yard, especially if you're going to Albi.”

“Eaton Workshop DC was the host for a recent two-day conference I organized, and for the most part, it was a solid experience. Working with the conference service manager was smooth sailing, and they were responsive and attentive to our needs. Any issues that popped up along the way were swiftly taken care of once we flagged them to the team's attention. On the day of the conferences, the staff was welcoming and accommodated our needs, which was greatly appreciated. However, there are a couple of areas where Eaton could improve. Firstly, let's talk chairs. We spent two full days in conference spaces with two different types of chairs, and both were akin to sitting on bricks. Investing in some comfier, ergonomic options would do wonders for long events like ours. Secondly, the food. The catering menu left a bit to be desired. Options were limited, and what we did get wasn't exactly top-notch. Even the cookies were disappointingly small, barely bigger than Oreos, which left us scratching our heads. A menu overhaul would be a wise move. Despite these critiques, everything else about Eaton Workshop DC was pretty good. Attendees enjoyed their stay, and surprisingly, the bathrooms garnered quite a positive buzz. So, if you're looking for a venue with impressive lavatories, Eaton's got you covered.”

“The suites are amazing, staff was good, and a great location especially if your visiting the White House. It's right across the street. Be sure to book with you Amex Platinum or Centurion for the extra benefits the hotel has to offer!”

“Hotel Washington helped bring a very special weekend together for my new fiancée and I. They were more than accommodating and helping facilitate the delivery of “surprise” items our room at certain times. They really went the extra mile!

Great food location located in the lobby, cool, modern rooms with the options for stunning views of downtown DC.

10/10”

“You expect quality service when at an upscale or luxury hotel like the Grand Hyatt. Perfect print top the bottom everyone at this hotel provides service like it’s supposed to be. They are engaged and friendly. They make eye contact and acknowledge you when you walk by. They ask how things are going.
Kudos to management for instilling a service culture of excellence at this property and for hiring the wonderful people, which is not easy to do.”

“EXCELLENT choice for a stay with children. Our king bedroom had a door between us and the mini kitchenette and living room, which gave us plenty of extra space as well as an area to block off so our 4 month old wouldn't be woken up by the light. Nightly happy hour is a lot of fun (my husband went without me once when I wasn't back from my conference yet and ended up getting a double pour of wine since the bartender thought our kid was cute). There's a large number of selections for breakfast including made-to-order omelets. The metro stop is a short walk away. Staff were super friendly and people were walking up to ask if we were Zoe's parents by the end of the trip. I'll happily stay here again. You get significantly more space and more free food/benefits than other hotels of similar price in the area.”

“AMAZING SERVICE FROM STAFF!! Everyone was friendly and accommodating. The rooms are very very small (smaller than downtown Toronto, I wish I'd checked the square footage) and the walls are thin. It was really hard to get to bed, as DC is a booming area, and we heard a lot of fighting and police cars all hours of the night.”

“For the most part the staff was good. The folks on the concierge counter was not as helpful and the staff did not listen to what the guest was saying. But they were always nice and polite.”

“Gaylord International Hotels are one of the most amazing places I've ever stayed!! The atmosphere is breathtaking and the service, amenities, dining, spa, and rooms are absolutely spectacular!! I highly recommend this resort at any of their locations. I promise you will not be disappointed!!”

“Corner room had double queen bedroom, separate living room had large couch with hid-a-bed gave plenty of room for our family of six to sleep. The room had two bathrooms as well. The hotel is clean and modern. A really big draw was the Metro station below the hotel allowed us to leave the room and be ok a train in minutes. Parking was expensive but the valet was efficient the two times we needed the car during the week.

The only area for improvement would be the speed of being able to get an extra blanket during the late evening hours. They wouldn't provide it at the front desk and twice we had to wait an hour for it to be brought to the room.

Great hotel I would highly recommend for pleasure or business travel.”

“The Hamilton Hotel is located in a great spot in Downtown DC. Only blocks from the White House and one block to a Metro station. We chose this hotel as we are big fans of the TV show, Veep, and they have a suite themed after it. The suite contains several props from the show which was very fun for us as fans. The suite consisted of a bedroom, bathroom, living room and entry hallway and was on the upper floor of the hotel. The view was on Franklin Park and the Washington Monument in the distance. During our stay we enjoyed the clean room, beautiful historic look and feel of the hotel, and the location. We had an issue with our tub not draining, but it was fixed quickly once we mentioned it. The room was stocked with fresh towels daily and was clean. Some people need to be reminded what a historic hotel experience can be like and what their expectations need to be. That being said, we enjoyed our time here and would consider it again for future trips.”

“This was a beautiful property. It is perfectly located, it is clean, fresh, and well put together. This was very up to date. Their breakfast was very good and the service from Dani, Emma, and Mulu was excellent. Honestly, this is what I hope for when going to a Hilton property and they delivered.”

“I recently went to the Harborside Hotel in Oxon Hill, Maryland, to attend a class that utilized the hotel's conference room. The conference room was located in the basement, and while it wasn’t the most glamorous setting, it was functional and well-equipped for our needs. The space was comfortable for a day-long seminar, and the environment was quiet and conducive to learning.

The bathrooms throughout the hotel were impressively clean, which I always appreciate. It's clear that the hotel prioritizes cleanliness. I can’t speak too much on the rooms as I did not stay in any room. Additionally, there were vending machines conveniently located near the conference area, which was great for quick snacks or drinks throughout the day.

Parking was a breeze with plenty of space available in the back lot, making it easy to get in and out of the hotel without hassle. The hotel overall has a no-frills straightforward approach, but it provides all the necessary amenities for a good seminar for business trips or events. While not an extravagant venue, the Harborside Hotel is reliable for those seeking convenience and practicality for meetings or classes. I would recommend it for anyone attending events in the area.

Nearby activities: Top golf

Walkability: Very walkable

“It's near the station. There are no transfers from the airport, and you can reach the hotel in about 30 minutes. There is a Starbucks and a restaurant inside the hotel. In the morning, Starbucks is so crowded that even the seats at the entrance are filled. You can also order meals in your room. The price wasn't that high either. In the room, there were drinks in plastic bottles for each person, as well as coffee and tea.Amenities included body cream, hand soap, provided shampoo, treatment, and body soap.As a service, cucumber water and lemon & lime water are available near the elevator. However, it didn't seem to be replenished and it seemed like it was running out by 5pm.You can keep your luggage in the closet before check-in and after check-out.Check-in time is 16:00, but you may be able to enter your room at 2:00 pm without any additional charge, and if you are before 2:00 pm, you may be able to enter your room with an additional charge. The front desk staff was also polite and pleasant.I think it's a convenient location to go to the White House and the National Mall.I would like to use it again the next time I go to Washington DC.”

“Great location, nice size room, friendly and helpful staff, clean.

We just finished a 1 week stay at the Capital Hill Hotel. We will be back. I would love to give the hotel a 4.5 star rating, but that is not a choice.

Positives: Very friendly and helpful staff. For example, I had a problem with my shower, told the front desk on my way to breakfast, it was fixed by the time we got back.
Rooms and public areas are kept very clean. It is an older property but does not feel worn out.
Great location, many sites are a 10-30 minute walk.
Pricing is very reasonable, we got upgraded when we checked in.

Negatives: Bathroom sink and facet are mismatched. This is not a cosmetic comment, the facet is too low and close to the sink edge to allow you to easily wash your hands or rinse your toothbrush.
Breakfast was very basic, similar to a Hampton's Inn without the waffle maker.”

“I stayed in this hotel for a short weekend trip and I was very pleasantly surprised with the level of comfort mixed with modernity that citizenM offers. The rooms felt pretty luxurious with the ability to use an iPad to control the entire room’s lighting, shades/blinds and TV. It felt very similar to the experience you get in a Virgin Voyages Cruise ship. The entire side of the bed was a giant window, bringing in light and a decent view from outside. A room for two with a king bed is relatively small, but the space is so well utilized and decorated that it wasn’t even an issue. The hotel has a very young and trendy vibe, which is very refreshing compared to the hotels I’m used to. The views from the balcony are incredible as well, overseeing both the Capitol and the Washington monument. The service from all the staff in the hotel was very polite and down to earth. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting DC, I would definitely come back!”
