“This new store, north of Niles on the corner of Old Walton Road and Old U.S. 31, is right on the way to the golf course, which I visit daily (weather pending), making it the perfect place to pick up water and snacks for the course. The ladies working there have been courteous and pleasant and have put up admirably with my shopping "like a guy" techniques and accompanying endless chatter. I'll be a regular during golf weather. The store itself is clean and well-organized. All in all, an excellent shopping experience.”

Today, I walked into Dollar General expecting a quick errand and left feeling like I had just experienced the Disney World of discount shopping — all thanks to one man: Terrence. From the moment I walked in, Terrence greeted me with a smile so bright it could have powered the entire store if the lights went out. His voice carried the perfect balance of enthusiasm and authority, like a game show host who’s also your best friend. Within seconds, I knew I was in the presence of customer service royalty. I asked where the cleaning supplies were — Terrence didn’t just point. No, he personally escorted me to the aisle as if I were a VIP guest at a luxury resort, narrating the journey with product recommendations worthy of a professional TV commercial. At one point, I swear a heavenly beam of light shone down on him as he handed me the perfect bottle of glass cleaner. When I reached the register, Terrence rang me up with speed and precision that would make a NASCAR pit crew jealous. He double-bagged my items without me even asking — a small gesture that made me feel truly understood as a human being. As I walked out, Terrence bid me farewell with such warmth, I half expected him to wave a white handkerchief and shout, “Safe travels, my friend!” If the employee of the month award doesn’t go to Terrence, I demand they rename the entire Dollar General in his honor. I’ll be telling my grandchildren about this shopping trip. Thank you, Terrence, for turning my mundane errand into a legendary memory.”
“Cindy, Kacey, young lady from register 12 and her crew from yesterday between 10/11am were all excellent... I found 2 associates over by the clearance aisle that were both very kind, helpful and accommodating... I asked them while stocking if the could assist on obtaining a price on a clearance item! These associates without hesitation smiled and immediately answered my questions quickly, efficiently. They were back to stocking in no time... I have been told sooooo many times by a Wal-Mart associate (at other locations) "If you need to check a price, we have price checkers at 2 spots in the store." I was in a hurry yesterday came in shopped for exactly what I needed and only was through the store so quickly due to all the proficient abilities of the multiply staff I encountered yesterday... If those ladies had read me the "Price Checker Line" on me, I truthfully would have said ok thank u, put the items back and walked away from something I needed with in my weekly budget. Honestly, if the 1st people that I speak to in the store and ask for guidance on a store item isn't helpful and wont attempt to locate that information I need I just leave. Those businesses clearly does not need my money. I wont shop at any establishment that is ok with allowing its employees to not be properly informed of proper customer service. I come to a store to shop not learn how to work there. Yesterday I had so many complications with my Wal-Mart pay on my app, but it wasn't as serious to me. Due to the fact that my over all experience was very helpful from the moment I walk out of the car and was offered a cart by Kasey and the gentlemen that was pushing the carts me to the door. This staff never gave up on trying any suggestion I had to use the money I has accumulated through my Savings Catcher . It took about 35 min, 3 registers and many minds to finally make my app register to the scan code. But they NEVER gave up. Honestly this is the Only Wal-Mart that has more often exceeded my expectations than any other one I have ever been to... Thank you guys for making my day easier and my life get more organized. “SOME of their items are a bit expensive. But I buy the store brands & what's on sale & I don't do too badly there! The store is CLEAN, WELL LIT & THE AISLES ARE LARGE ENOUGH TO ACTUALLY MOVE AROUND IN! Their selection is WONDERFUL & their products are QUALITY. I DO wish they had more cashiers though & were not moving to all self-checkouts like everyone else. But, overall, not a bad place to shop! 😊👍”

“I was having lunch with a friend in this area and needed to pick up a few items at the store. This Walmart location was in the midst of remodeling, but it had a modern and clean appearance. I’ve only been here a few times, but these two recent visits have impressed me with the progress made in the remodel. Online pickup was convenient, although they had to temporarily relocate it due to the remodeling. It took me a bit to find it, but the staff was friendly and passionate about providing excellent customer service.”
The Cincinnati-based supermarket giant will open about 110 new stores in fast-growing markets by 2029 and introduce three updated store formats, executives told investors Oct. 20 at the company’s Investor Update in New York. Kroger already runs about 2,700 stores in 35 states. The formats come in three sizes, a bit like small, medium and large, matched to each market. Mary Ellen Adcock, Kroger’s executive vice president and chief merchant and marketing officer, walked through the lineup.
Walmart shoppers want a head start on the holidays, and money explains a lot of it. Some 44% of respondents call affording the holidays their top stressor, and 61% say holiday costs shape their shopping mood. Asked what would make the season easier, 70% picked lower prices and 57% picked more deals and promotions. Convenience ranks lower: 30% want one-stop shopping across categories, and 20% want faster delivery.
Walmart wants your groceries at the door before the ice cream softens. On May 29, the retailer said its 30-minute-or-less delivery had reached 33 U.S. markets, adding a wave of new cities across the Northeast. Shoppers in those areas can order from more than 100,000 items, everything from fresh produce and baby formula to pet food, electronics, cold medicine, and prescriptions. Behind the scenes, the service leans on Walmart's store network and an algorithm that factors in order size, available drivers, and distance from the store.
Trader Joe's keeps adding stores, and shoppers keep showing up. The California grocer has marked nine more locations as "opening soon," pushing its expansion into new corners of the country. The grocer also took first place in the American Customer Satisfaction Index's 2026 supermarket rankings. It has held a spot near the top of that list for years.
Target is rolling out its most ambitious store overhaul in more than ten years, with plans to remodel over 130 locations and open 30 new stores across the country this year. The retailer is also putting money into supply chain technology upgrades to keep pace with how shoppers buy today.
