“I can’t adequately express the thanks my wife and I have for Dr. Birch, the techs and the office staff at SMAEC for quickly addressing a difficult situation we found ourselves in with our 4-year old Bernese Mountain Dog, Lucy a week ago. The evening after some scheduled surgery at our regular vet she began hemorrhaging blood out of her incision site. The techs and Dr. Birch were honest with the situation we faced but ready to address it aggressively if we wanted. We did, and they did. Long story short after about an hour of exploratory surgery Dr. Birch found the bleeder and addressed it. Because of the skills and tenacity of the staff that night we’re able to be enjoying Lucy’s never-ending tail wagging and licks today. We appreciate you all.”

“I was very nervous about my dog getting aggressive with the tech since we haven't really done a lot of shots before and he's more on the stranger danger side. But the tech was very calm, slow and did an amazing job with my dog. Held him gently, but firmly and talked nice to him. My dog was very nervous I could see him shaking from across the room and he didn't even growl at him. Didn't get the tech's name, but was very impressed.”

We brought in our middle-aged rescue mix for a routine nail trim and anal gland expression. During the procedure, the vet tech noticed something unusual and immediately brought it to the attention of the veterinarian. They recommended a biopsy, and Banfield went above and beyond to help us move up our renewal so the biopsy could be done at the same time as his dental cleaning while under anesthesia.

That decision made all the difference. The biopsy revealed an aggressive form of colon cancer — but because it was caught so early, our dog was able to have surgery and complete chemo treatments through a specialist vet. Banfield has continued to be an incredible partner, coordinating closely with the oncology team and providing regular checkups to support his recovery.

He just finished his last round of chemo, and we’re now moving into the monitoring stage. I will always be grateful to the Apple Valley Banfield team for their attentiveness, quick action, and genuine care. Without them, we would never have caught this in time.”
