He was pleasant, knowledgeable, put us at ease (as we initially thought the place was a scam) and took his time to hear what my husband and I needed for support and comfort in our mattress. John did not rush us, showed us multiple options and didn’t make us feel as though we had to buy. Although we did. He spoke when needed, didn’t have awkward silence and assured us of each step through. Having lived in the area for three years we had always driven past Mattress Depot. We never thought twice about it until we needed to upgrade our bed. We tend to read reviews to get an understanding of a place before deciding to go there and Mattress Depot (but more specifically, Al) had so many rave reviews. Upon entering the store, Al's energy, mixed with a sense of humor and friendliness immediately affirmed our choice. And it only got better from there.
Al was informative but hands-off—he gave us the info we needed, but gave us space to test out mattresses and decide for ourselves. And he was always ready for questions!
This level of customer service is rare—it’s drilled into any retail worker to do whatever it takes to make the sale. But Al wasn't just selling mattresses, he was connecting to us as people. We didn't feel like we were being sold to, we felt like we were visiting an old friend who happened to sell mattresses.
We ended up selecting a mattress that we hadn't even thought of because we had been given the space and time to try every single one.
Al went ABOVE AND BEYOND from here on out.
We were anxious buyers and wanted to make the right decision. A king-sized mattress is a big investment for a young couple. Al continued to be reassuring, he continued to be supportive, he continued to do whatever we needed in order for us to get what we wanted. He did it all with a sense of humor and a friendliness like we had known him for years.
I could honestly go on and on but if you have read up until this point, you may have already been convinced to go see Al at Mattress Depot. I wholeheartedly appreciate everything Al did for us. And I mean it when I say, we will recommend this place to anyone needing a mattress and we’ll only ever buy from Al in the future.”

“My infirmed mother-in-law's powered recliner/ lift chair broke down the evening before Thanksgiving. We discovered that we had bought it years before from Currier's. When I called to seek a replacement on Black Friday to an obviously busy store. We were told that the same chair model was not readily available. But Valerie cheerfully offered to research similar available chairs. She emailed specifications to us so we could make an informed decision. When we called back to make the purchase Susanne assisted us. She went out of her way to contact the Third party delivery service and arranged a Sunday delivery.

“This is a a really, really nice store. I make it a point to visit when I am in Newburyport. There is a vague French theme but mostly the items are high end housewares. Kitchen, bathroom, living room, bedroom. There is a smattering of food items, mostly canned and bottled stuff. I'm terms of the staff, I've never had a problem. They are waspy looking North Shore women of a certain age. What do you want? They ring me up and I'm on my way.”
