“Friendly staff, bright, clean, organized. Found exactly what I was looking for, which was the most updated large hardcover version of the dictionary. I want my kids to have access to a true old-style dictionary in addition to looking up words online. My teenage daughter also found a couple novels she wants to read.”

“I don’t usually write reviews, but I had such a lovely experience today I wanted to express my gratitude. I have been in the UES for over a decade and this is my first time stumbling upon this phenomenal hidden gem, and it did not disappoint! Such a great variety of books! In a lot of used bookstores it’s hard to find modern, bestselling fiction, but what a selection they had! The customer service was fantastic! And to learn the proceeds go to supporting the New York Public Library system made me love them even more! Will definitely be back MANY more times to come! Thank you for a great experience!”

“A great place to just chill and read, have a cup of java, very easy to find what you need!! My favorite store!!
Also got to meet my favorite author last night, Douglas Preston!”

“Absolutely the best record store I have been to in ages. Always a steal of some sort in the “just in” section - makes the prices of most vinyl places seem patently absurd. Also a cool albeit small, well-curated book selection, and just a mellow look and vibe with a friendly staff. I always look forward to a trip to Soldato and it’s definitely the gem of our town.”

“My son and I love coming to Symposia to browse books and meet nice people! The books are in amazing condition. A perfect place to pick up a gift or your next read!”

“I adore this store and visit every time I am in town. The highlight of my business trips are always browsing this store. Their customer service is beyond stellar. There is always someone around to help locate something or answer questions. The folks who answer the phone are always very polite and helpful. Their membership is a great value and comes with a cute card!

The above and beyond: I had requested a hold for an incoming item that was delayed - it was an hour before I had to catch a train (won't be back for a few months) and last ditch effort called to ask if it had arrived. They were still processing the day's delivery. The woman on the phone could have easily told me I needed to wait until I received a call that it was ready and I would have understood, but instead she located the item and prepped it for pickup. I was able to purchase it and make my train. Beyond grateful for their amazing service.”

“Skip Amazon and come here instead! I walked past this shop and was immediately drawn in by its warm, soulful vibe. The staff is incredibly kind, and they have a beautiful selection of crystals, sound bowls, and self-growth books. I ended up buying Himalayan salt candle holders that beat Amazon's prices and quality by a mile.

Definitely stop in if you want to add some calm, meaningful energy to your space.”

“Absolutely love this bookstore and their ‘Blind Date with a Book’ idea — it makes such a unique and thoughtful gift. My girlfriend loves to read, and we’ve visited twice now. Both times, the staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and more than willing to help us find what we needed. You can really tell they care about creating a great experience. Definitely a place we’ll keep coming back to”

“Tannens is a great store. I've bought from them a good handful of times. Always great service. This time, I figured I'd try the $50 mystery box. First time purchasing it. Man(!!!) am I glad I did. I know this must be a rarity, I opened the box and saw a thin book, something in another box, a thick deck of cards and a mentalism piece that was in a thin cardboard box. So, ok, let's see what I got. The thick deck of cards was The Bigger Picture, the thin book was HERMES, the mentalism piece in the box was Rhine 2000. What was in the other box, A Mikame Magicians Changing Chest circa 2005 in brand new condition!! I was FLOORED!! I'm sure I got really lucky.
Thank you Tannens”

“Kitchen Arts & Letters is one of my favorite independent bookstores in NYC. It's small, but absolutely filled with books you didn't know you needed. The variety of cookbooks available, as well as other books on food and drink is truly astonishing. Their staff is friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. Follow them on Facebook and Instagram for info on new releases, signings, and other events. If you can, visit during the week when it's less crowded. If you're not local to NYC, you can also purchase from them via their website. Support independent booksellers!”

“Appreciate this store a lot - I emailed them to check on a book and shortly after received a response, which is somewhat rare. They didn’t have it in stock but ordered it for me and I was able to pick it up a few days later. I will be back :)”

“Sometimes you don’t need endless choices or big shiny stores. Sometimes you just want something real.

This is one of those authentic local shops that truly deserves support. It’s a neighborhood staple with heart, character, and a genuine purpose behind it. You can feel that this place matters — not just for business, but for the community.

And if you’re shopping for kids? You’re in the right place. They have more than enough toys to make little faces light up.

Highly recommended if you value authenticity over hype and want your purchase to actually mean something.”

“Pretty cool spot. Prices are laughably high but it's nice to see a whole store dedicated to DIY prints/zines/swag/etc. in these trying times, in Manhattan! Plus they got some good tunes playing. Come through and bring your friends!”

“Love this small book store. It reminds me of the small bookstores you find on a neighborhood’s high street around London. Quaint with a good selection of interesting reads. A more personal vibe than a big box bookstore. Highly recommend. Support your local bookstore ❤”

Their bargain books section was pretty well stocked and were *actually* bargains. Some were cheaper than buying used ?Wish this had been around when I was in LIC more regularly.”

“Although I don’t agree with certain things for there is lack of knowledge and we shouldn’t lean onto our own understanding when partaking in wickedness but you will feel welcomed for they are kind. I see quality which I like but have a blessed day. 💕”
