1214 Camino Carlos Rey Suite 4, Santa FeThis store is magic, there are snakes on branches and birds flying around. I am looking to foster neo-natal kittens and the owner will let me know next time someone drops a box of kittens on his doorstep. He's like a vet for when your animal is having problems.

Shine Pet Food Co./Marty's Meals Inc.
506 W Cordova Rd, Santa FeI cannot say enough good things about Shine, or as I knew it before Marty’s Meals (same ownership, they just had to change their name when they started selling out of state).
The owner is very knowledgeable and cares deeply for dogs and cats and their health. She has contracted a holistic/eastern medicine vet to help formulate the recipes so it’s balanced and takes the guesswork out of cooking for your pet. Ingredients are local when possible, pastured/wild and organic and as a b corp doing so much more than providing quality pet food. They uphold the mantras “food is medicine” and quality food “adds years to life and life to the years”.
This is the kind of food that yes is more expensive, but over the long term I fully believe that this drastically lowers poor health outcomes and vet bills. Our animals are like us, when they feel good in their bodies they generally have less anxiety and stress from inflammation in the gut.
They have frozen raw food, they have gently cooked, they have free samples for cats, they now also have freeze dried food for connivence or travel. They have our FAVORITE fish skin snacks that clean my dogs teeth so well. They are better than all others we’ve tried. Also eductated us on raw bones for dogs! We have been giving our pup turkey necks the way they suggest and he loves them and they clean his teeth well.
We switched our last dog to this food, he was diagnosed with cancer and given just 6 months or so to live. If I remember correctly he lived a full year longer than they estimated (without chemo which wasn’t working for him). More importantly his energy and mood improved dramatically. He was way less gassy and he seemed calmer and generally happier. We are so glad it increased his quality of life towards the end. He never quit eating his Martys Meals. We wish we had known about it sooner, but we got our current dog on it fresh from the shelter and his gastro issues are gone. We estimate with all his treats and getting fed this every day our 25 lb dog is about $5-7 a day. Not inexpensive, but also about what a coffee with tip costs. I also firmly believe that its not perfection we are aiming for, just improvement. Even if a full diet change is not possible, topping kibble with this food will increase wellness dramatically. It’s awesome, you can portion it out how you want to.
They also have a nice selection of holistic and natural supplements and homeopathics, a nice toy and accessory section, and a donation box for one of the shelters in town too.
We are so lucky to just be able to swing by and grab treats and food instead of having more boxes coming to the house from companies all over the place. Thank you for serving and educating our community with quality food for our dogs and cats.

Tullivers Pet Food Emporium
807 Cerrillos Rd, Santa FeAbsolutely love Tullivers! From the minute you walk in, you know that this store is about true love for pets. We are completely grateful for the variety of amazing high quality food, treats, and supplements - toys, clothes, and products – and healing essentials (especially the homeopathic and holistic)… not to mention the awesome discounts and support for local pet businesses. Plus, the staff is exceptional. They know their products in and out of the store, are extremely warm and friendly, and treat you and your pet(s) like you matter. We couldn’t be happier with the kindness we’ve always received from Lorenzo, Patty, and Hannah, as well as the owner, Ellen. There’s nothing better than having an establishment that makes you feel like part of the family. Santa Fe is very lucky to have a store like this. Some may feel it’s a bit expensive. But from our experience, it has saved our furry kindred pack from having to go down an even more expensive health path. We give Tullivers 5 stars and 100 more! Thank you for caring so much! We appreciate you!!!

7 Ave Vista Grande Suite B5, Santa FeI want to share my recent experience with our Eldorado Pet and Wild Bird store:My 15 YO dog Barkley had stopped eating, after a brief gut infection. I want to thank Cheryl for her kind expertise and sound advice. She recommended new and wonderful products for him to try. He heartily ate everything last night and this morning. I fed him kibble, tripe and Zignature food, which was a big departure from his prior dog food. I am forever grateful!

825 Early St suite f, Santa FeI found Micah years ago after my little bichon had a very bad experience with a groomer in Phoenix. Now he only goes to Micah. Though he can be prickly, she loves him up and handles him beautifully. I started taking my old mixed breed for a bath and brush too and she comes home a new dog. In the last year I have added a large sheepadoodle to the mix. Quite a handful. Micah is the only one I would trust with my dogs!!!

Rollin' Paws Mobile Vet Service
1532 Cerrillos Rd Ste A, Santa FeI called Rollin Paws to come to my home to put my elderly, sweet dog down. They were communicative, kind, & made the process so peaceful & easy. They let me have a little time w her after, which I was thankful for. I was fortunate enough to be able to chose a private cremation w clay paw print. I did not expect how beautifully done this would be. The box is beautiful & clay print had bits of her hair & dirt from her paw still in it, which I love. They included a few little paint-prints with the certificate of cremation, and a very sweet card signed by the staff. The box came in a beautiful blue velvet pouch & it was all in a very nice blue paper gift bag (that description sounds weird but it's really very nice).
Thank you to the team, I had her for a very long time through thick & thin, she was a part of me, and I'm so thankful for such great care.

Thal Equine LLC
69 Bonanza Creek Rd, Santa FeDr. Thal saved my horse Gunner. Gunner broke a molar several years ago and I failed to get care for it based on some bad advice. Gunner stopped eating on December 5th this past year and then had two bouts of colic, because he had stopped drinking water. I called Thal Equine after making another mistake in Gunner’s care. I was told to get Gunner to them as soon as possible. When we arrived he and his team made us feel welcome. They examined Gunner. He was a very sick horse. Before they took him to his stall I hugged him and told him I love him and I would be back for him. Honestly, I was unsure I would ever see Gunner alive again. Dr. Thal explained the surgical procedure to remove the molar. It is a complicated procedure which involves boring a hole through the horse’s sinus to reach the root of the broken molar. Then the remaining bore hole has to be filled with an acrylic substance to seal off the sinus from the mouth.
Removing the molar was complicated because the molars on each side of the broken tooth had begun to grow inward toward the broken molar. Dr. Thal had to perform two surgeries to remove the tooth. He called or texted me after each surgery to update me on Gunner’s condition and the surgeries. After the second surgery to remove the tooth he told me he wasn’t happy with the seal and he was going to take Gunner back into surgery the next day and get a better seal.
I brought Gunner home a week later after several surgeries and a couple of days in ICU. Dr. Thal sent us home with a well written set of instructions for Gunner’s care post surgery. Dr. Thal also returned every phone call or text I sent him when I had questions or concerns about Gunner during his recovery.
I rode Gunner yesterday. The day was pleasant for February. I had my friend back. Gunner and I shared those magical moments of connection and peace you have with a horse. This was all possible because Dr. Thal is a very gifted and dedicated equine veterinarian. He is compassionate and passionate about the care for his patients. Dr. Thal literally saved my horse.
I hope he is in practice for the years I have left on this earth with horses. I feel a sense of comfort knowing that Dr. Thal is within easy driving distance from my home, if I one of our horses needs care. Thank you Dr. Thal.

Land, Amy, Dvm - Smith Veterinary Hospital
600 Alta Vista St #4149, Santa FeWe are from Illinois and were traveling out west with our three dogs to visit friends (and their four dogs). As we started back, our dog Alice became seriously ill. We started trying to find a veterinarian who could see her when we were outside of Albuquerque. The receptionist at Smith Veterinary Hospital in Santa Fe was wonderful. He took our information, learned that we were worried about a potential bleeding spleen with Alice and scheduled us through Urgent Care as soon as we arrived in Santa Fe. Dr. Dobesh saw us and determined that Ally needed emergency surgery. She operated that evening and literally, saved Alice's life. Alice was eating, happy, and her silly self by the next day. We stayed in Santa Fe for two days to make sure that Ally was okay to travel and are now back home. Everyone at Smith Veterinary Hospital was kind, supportive and helpful. We could not have asked for a more knowledgeable, skilled, and compassionate veterinarian than Dr. Dobesh and we are so grateful that we found Smith Veterinary Hospital while traveling. Many thanks again to all of the staff who were there to help us and to treat Alice.

Dr. Mike Dobesh, DVM
600 Alta Vista St, Santa FeBeen coming back here again after using another local vet for a while. Vet care in this town has gone down hill hard recently and just having terrible experiences. So gave Smith a second shot since I used to really like these guys, and have always really appreciated how I could just walk in there when I needed to. My two recent experiences here have just been stellar. Great docs. Great assistants. Great receptionists, too! Just took my dog in for an infected lump that really needed to be seen, and couldn't have been happier or more impressed. They are super busy, like all the other vets in town, but somehow managed to not compromise great customer care. UNLIKE everywhere else I have tried. Yes, I tried to leave Smith Vet but so glad I decided to go back. My dog is happy too! I know where I'm going in future.

Smith Veterinary Hospital: Breden Yvette DVM
600 Alta Vista St, Santa FeFrom one visit, I'd say this is the place I would take a pet you're concerned about in Santa Fe. After multiple visits to eldorado vet and Route 66 in ABQ, it continually felt like no one was even looking at the tests and images they took and charged me for. At the time of writing this, the best way to have a pet seen is to show up and be ready to be admitted at 7:30am. Due to their corporate ownership they are understaffed, like all of the vets in Santa Fe. Dr. Breer and the tech who's name I've really unfortunately forgotten were the first people out of 3 vets that showed care and concern for my puppy, and more so, also could tell I was pretty taxed myself and offered to let me step out and eat for the first time in the day and take a bit of a breather. We are on to a 4th vet for more tests, but under the circumstances, this was the first vet visit since my dog's illness that was caring and had a direction to pursue. Thank you.

Kelly Jeannette M DVM
2001 Vivigen Way B, Santa FeI’m so grateful to Dr. Jeannette Kelly and her team in Santa Fe for the extraordinary care they gave our dog Susie. When Susie received her bladder cancer diagnosis, Dr. Kelly didn’t just lay out treatment options—she took the time to really understand our concerns, answer every question, and walk us through each decision with clarity and patience.
Because of Dr. Kelly’s expertise and thoughtful guidance, Susie’s story did end with her initial 3–6 month prognosis from another vet- she lived a full three and a half years more. Memories we would not have had without Dr. Kelly’s care.
Dr. Kelly provided medical expertise, empathy and just as important… hope. Her staff was attentive, compassionate, and always welcoming. Thank you Lana and Kai!
