fetch! Dog Treats
4545 Transit Rd Suite 332, BuffaloI visited the Buffalo location on Great Arrow. My experience was over the top! The reason I stopped by, was to purchase more of the dog bones that my dog just loves. My five star rating is not just because the Dog treats are great, but the personal customer service and attention that I received while on site. How I was treated, honestly, was unexpected. I was expecting just a transaction to buy some treats for our dog. But to my surprise it was a more personal and pleasurable visit. Jackie, thank you so much awesome visit.

A Reef Creation
485 Cayuga Rd, BuffaloThis is the best way I have found to get the corals I want at reasonable prices. I love the auction sales style. Gives me the control over what im willing to pay and often gets me a cheap frag that becomes a treasured fav! The livestock is healthy, typically opens shortly after introduction and has survived some unfortunate LPS alk instability where corals from other places did not.The online service - especially Randy- goes above and beyond during the entire process, from sales to ensuring safe arrival - and even with prompt answers to tank and coral questions anytime. With all the shipping challenges - like weather, work schedules, etc., this is important to a landlocked reefer. BTW, ARC's shipping prices during sales are the best I've seen.Even when I don't intend to buy, I love getting notified about an upcoming ARC Auction and will often watch. I usually end up buying. Love this store!

Petco
330 Orchard Park Rd, BuffaloUpdate: Been in quite a few times since then and customer service is still amazing. Thank you for training your people so well.
I don't know if this place is under new management but, we went in to possibly purchase some fish today, 8-11-24. The young man with the beard came right over to us asking if we needed help. He was extremely helpful, he answered all our questions, he offered recommendations about the care of certain fish. And the fish tanks were SOOOOOOO CLEAN !!! At checkout, the cashier was friendly and courteous and had a great sense of humor. Wow...what a difference ! We haven't been in there in over a year because of horrible service. Kudos to whoever took over. I wish we could have gotten their names because they BOTH deserve recognition for their outstanding service.

PetSmart
5061 Transit Rd, BuffaloWe took our 1yr old Australian Shepherd Maple into the beginner training class. We were skeptical at first, but decided to give it a shot. We are SO extremely glad we went through with this! Our trainer (Daisy R) is simply the BEST. Maple is not an easy dog and Daisy was so kind and informative every week. Maple graduated the beginner class today, and we are so impressed with the results! Daisy met the needs of each dog in the class on an individual level and provided Maple (and us) everything needed to succeed! We are so excited to sign up for the following higher level classes! I would 100% recommend Daisy’s classes to anyone!

Animal Outfitters, Inc.
500 Seneca St Suite #150, BuffaloMy dog, Walter Eugene, had an incredible experience (and so did I) on his debut day at daycare. I felt so comfortable with him being in Omar's care whose evident affection and commitment towards the pets reassured me. I immediately loved Shannon - she was so warm and kind.Walter's joy was palpable as he found a companion in Joey, another beagle, to romp around with. He emerged from his day at daycare a transformed pup - happily tired and, dare I say, even better behaved!

Pawprints By Penny & Co. LLC
1245 Niagara St, BuffaloOur dog Ozzie has been coming here for daycare for years and we absolutely loved it. Recently, my office moved so we tried sending ozzie to a new daycare that was closer to home and safe to say we will be spending the extra commute to bring him back to Pawprints by Penny. It's apparent how much the staff genuinely love the dogs and how well they care for them compared to other daycares. Ozzie is always excited when we get there in the morning and exhausted and happy when we pick him up. This is a great place to bring your dog for some exercise and socialization during the day and I 100% trust them and feel comfortable sending my dog here!

Amherst Small Animal Hospital
2217 Kensington Ave, BuffaloMyself and my dogs love everyone at ASAH!!! I feel like family and always leave with a good understanding of my dogs treatment plans. The past couple of years each of my dogs needed specific treatments. Finn has gotten dental and xrays to monitor his joints. Theo (pictured waiting for his friends to come in) has had a toe amputation, dental, and skin tag removals all with great success. Valley has had dental and oral surgery and got to tag along with Theo on his visit today for an anal gland issue that arose. Dr. Stein does a wonderful job explaining everything in an easy to comprehend way and I always feel assured all my questions are answered.
Amanda and Caroline are always supportive and kind at the front desk and always seem happy to see my and my precious fur babies. Thank you all for everything you do for me and my dogs

I brought my senior lab in for an emergency visit and she was so patient with him and spent so much time with me talking about my options and how we could proceed. She was very thorough and made sure she answered all of my questions. She has a wonderful “bedside manner” and was so kind. Thank you, Dr. Christy!

Pet Sitting & Training

K9 Connection
484 Niagara St, BuffaloI hope everyone with a new puppy takes the opportunity to go to K9 Connection's puppy socialization classes!! My little guy started out hiding under chairs and afraid of the other puppies, but by the time he aged out he was a social butterfly! The trainers are wonderful at allowing the puppies to interact and learn each other's social cues, but they're quick to intervene and gently redirect them if anyone starts to get out of hand. They will also explain what they're watching for and why they're doing what they're doing to you as the owner the whole time so that you can learn more about dog behavior as well. Now that my dog is over 100 pounds I still feel confident to take him to the dog park knowing that he has good foundational social skills, and also using the knowledge the trainers taught me to redirect him away from other dogs who are not good playmates. I am so grateful to them for helping me raise a friendly dog. Go spend a few Saturday mornings there with your pup, it's so so worth it!!

Canine Complex & Friends (Buffalo)
125 Arthur St, BuffaloI cannot say enough about Jeannine and the amazing work she does at Canine Complex & Friends! From the moment Teddy (my cavapoo) and I walked through the door, I felt an immediate sense of calm. It was like doggy yoga for both of us—minus the awkward downward dog. Jeannine’s knowledge is next-level, but what really blew me away was the safe, supportive, and positive environment she creates. Teddy and I both feel completely at ease—he was wagging, I was breathing, and we just thoroughly enjoy our training time together every week. I’ve tried plenty of training approaches before, but Jeannine’s trauma-informed, dog-centered methods are a game-changer. No gimmicks, no power struggles—just learning how to truly communicate with my pup. Teddy has gone from “cute chaos” to “confident and relaxed little man,” and I’m forever grateful. Thank you, Jeannine, for your patience, wisdom, and humor. Teddy and I can’t wait to keep learning with you

The Family Companion
575 Ayer Rd, BuffaloI recently had the pleasure of taking the Family Companion class with Marcia and Gary and I can not say enough awesome things about the program they run. I love that they use positive reinforcement with treats and praise rather than the shock collar training I saw many other places use. With just this 7-week class alone my dog is able to know basic commands from sit, down, stay, come etc. We are excited for the Canine Good Citizens Training program coming up next and the summer walks that Gary has planned!! Cannot thank you all enough!!

KANINE COMMAND
360 Hewitt Ave #1604, BuffaloI want to take a moment to express my deepest appreciation for my mentor, Chuck Bostick. When I look at where I am today in the world of protection dog training—and more importantly, where I’m headed—I’m fully aware that Chuck played a major role in shaping that path. He didn’t just teach me skills; he set me up for long-term, sustainable success.
From the first day I trained under him, Chuck treated me not just as a student but as someone he believed could become great with the right guidance. He didn’t hold back knowledge, didn’t gatekeep, didn’t rush anything. Instead, he broke things down with a level of detail and patience that only someone who truly cares about the craft—and the people learning it—can offer. There’s a difference between someone who can train dogs and someone who can build dog trainers. Chuck does both at an elite level.
He taught me how to think, not just how to follow instructions. He made sure I understood why we do things the way we do, how every action affects the dog’s mind, confidence, drive, and stability. Whether we were working on grip development, drive channeling, obedience under pressure, or the finer points of reading a dog’s mental state, he always emphasized clarity, fairness, and purpose. That foundation alone is something a lot of trainers never get, and it’s something I value every single day.
But what truly separates Chuck is his integrity. He leads by example. His standards are high—not because he wants to make things difficult, but because he wants his students to achieve excellence. He showed me what it takes to produce real protection dogs: the discipline, the consistency, the ability to adapt, and the mindset required to do this work at a professional level. I never felt judged for what I didn’t know; instead, he gave me confidence to keep improving and pushed me to levels I didn’t even know I was capable of reaching.
Chuck also taught me the business side and the responsibility that comes with this industry. It’s not just about making dogs look good in videos. It’s about producing safe, reliable, balanced animals and being the type of trainer people can trust. He showed me the standards of professionalism that separate true trainers from hobbyists. That mentorship is priceless.
When I look ahead at my goals—opening my own protection dog company, producing high-level working dogs, and becoming a respected trainer in this field—I see Chuck’s influence in every part of that vision. He gave me the blueprint, the mindset, and the confidence. You can’t put a price on that. He didn’t just prepare me to train dogs—he prepared me to succeed.
I’m genuinely grateful for everything he’s poured into me. A mentor like Chuck is rare, and the impact he’s had on my life and career is something I’ll always appreciate. I wouldn’t be on the path I’m on today without him.
Thank you, Chuck, for setting me up for ultimate success in protection dogs and for believing in me long before I believed in myself.

Spotted Octopus Brewing Company is a hidden gem. Like other alluded to the service is top notch! There are more options than just their brews with a selection of seltzers, wine and even specialty cocktails made with area spirits.
Others have noted it is cozy and we'd agree. There are some large four top tables and plenty of games to enhance your experience. The second level provides a bunch of extra seating options. It has an eclectic theme with unique decor. There is limited outdoor seating as well.
The writing on the wall brings me back to my college days, but there are some funny things to uncover and writers from around the country. Give Spotted Octopus a try, you won't be disappointed.

Buffalo Brewing Company & Buffalo Deep Dish
314 Myrtle Ave, BuffaloWe went to Buffalo Deep Dish for the first time last Saturday as a party of four. We arrived at 4:30pm and I expected it to be busy because let’s face it, the pictures of their pizza online look crazy good and they live up to it! First problem is parking, second problem is finding a table to wait for your pizza which took nearly 3 hours! Once we were able to find a place to sit, we tried the craft beer which was very good. I especially enjoyed the beer crafted with rice since I’m trying to stay away from wheat these days. The brewery area was a little loud but we made the best of it and enjoyed our pizza when it finally came out. No doubt we will be back but will have to be the first one there lol
