512 Middle Country Rd, CoramIf you're a "bird person," you know that the number of parrot specialty stores in the NY metro area has decreased in recent years. Some places I had previously patronized for supplies, boarding, and grooming- like 33rd and Bird in Manhattan and For Birds Only in Mineola- have sadly closed, and, when taking my first extended trip in a while, I needed to find somewhere new for boarding. After speaking to Tom on the phone, I decided to take my bird to First Flight despite not having been there before and it being a bit out of the way for me. I am so glad I did. The store is well-organized, brightly lit, and so fresh and clean. Immediately upon entering his temporary cage my bird was totally at ease and eating like a pig-- and couldn't have cared less about saying goodbye to me. When I came back to collect him, I also had his nails and beak done, and the grooming was gentle and expertly executed. I am sort of hesitant to entrust my bird to others, to a degree that I have sometimes avoided traveling; but after seeing what a nice time he had at First Flight, I'm confident that I have a great boarding option for the future and look forward to more anxiety-free trips.
