The transition was flawless and all of my dog's health needs were met. Everyone on the staff is friendly and helpful. Dr. K is very knowledgeable and explains things thoroughly. “Mid Island Animal Hospital is a Veterinary practice and hospital that goes above and beyond. I wanted to share this experience so others, who love their animals, would know about how wonderful the care is at Mid Island Animal Hospital. I have been taking my golden retriever puppy there since she was 12 weeks old. Recently, my 17 month old dog stopped eating and was just sleeping all day which was not like her at all. I thought maybe she had a stomach parasite or some other simple issue. We were taken that same day and seen by Dr. Stephanie Acevedo. Dr. Acevedo was extremely professional, knowledgeable, patient, kind, and compassionate. She understood we were in shock and upset with the test results and she took the time to explain everything several times. She never rushed us out or made us feel bad about asking so many questions. She was so knowledgeable and compassionate. She was just great with my dog. The dog required emergency surgery and Dr. Acevedo arranged everything with the surgeon so that the procedure went smoothly. She guided and helped us through this difficult and stressful time. Thank God that the surgery was a success and my girl will be just fine. Huge thank you to Dr. Acevedo for saving my girl. I must also add that the Vet techs and front office personnel are just amazing. They treat both pets and families with kindness and respect. From beginning to end, this practice takes care of and goes above and beyond for their patients. Your family is in good hands at Mid Island Animal Hospital. I cannot recommend Dr. Penyy at The Cat Doctor highly enough! My 16-year-old Chinchilla Persian, Apple, recently had surgery, and the care we received was absolutely world-class.

What truly sets Dr. Penyy apart is her incredible heart and selflessness. I’ve seen her kneeling on the floor for a long time just to carefully remove Apple’s sutures one by one, showing zero ego. She once even accidentally bumped her head because she was focusing so intensely on examining him, yet her only concern was making sure we weren’t worried! She genuinely puts the well-being of the cats above everything else.

Despite her busy schedule, she is always responsive—answering questions late at night or on weekends with professional guidance. She remembers every detail of Apple’s health stats, which gives me so much peace of mind.

As an artist, Apple is my muse, and I picked up watercolor specifically to capture the beauty of cats. I was so moved by Dr. Penyy’s dedication that I painted a miniature watercolor of her caring for Apple. When I gave it to her, she was so surprised and called it 'so artistic'—her reaction meant the world to me.

“I recently took my cat to Animal General of East Norwich after a really stressful experience at another vet, where I was immediately told she needed surgery. They also took my cat into the back, and I sat there for six hours without seeing her once, which made the whole situation even more stressful. My cat is 15 years old and has never been away from me once, and this is her first medical incident in all the 15 years. I can only imagine how scared she was.

That didn’t sit right with me, so I decided to get a second opinion… and I’m so glad I did.
At Animal General, my cat was seen by Dr. Leonhardt, who was incredibly caring, kind, and compassionate from the moment we walked in. One of the biggest differences was that she examines and treats her patients right in front of you, which made me feel so much more comfortable and involved in my cat’s care.

She quickly identified that my cat had bed sores and did not rush into anything extreme. Instead, she took the time to explain everything clearly, provided the proper medication, and showed me exactly how to care for them at home.

My cat was visibly scared, but Dr. Leonhardt and her staff handled her with such caution and care while taking her out of the cage and throughout the entire process. They made sure she felt as safe and comfortable as possible, which meant everything to me as a pet owner.

I’ve grown up with cats, chickens, horses, and dogs, and have been to many different veterinarians over the years—and I can confidently say she is the best vet I’ve ever been to. “I followed Dr. Gina Antiaris when she took over the practice and I have never looked back. I believe there are 3 doctors there and I trust my cats to no one else. They completely understand and are empathetic to the nutiness some of us clients can inflict on them because they understand that for some, their pets are their life.
They are compassionate and its very rare for any Healthcare oriented establishment but I never felt pressured to get tests done or spend a crazy amount of money. When Dr. Gina tells me we need to do something we know its necessary and not just another way to get money out of us.
