“I booked this hotel very last minute for a getaway with my two boys and it was absolutely spectacular. We had never been to Fire Island before, and the staff at The Palms ensured we had the most wonderful stay. They had warm chocolate chip cookies upon arrival, which made us feel so welcomed. Our room was the perfect location with a playground across the way with beautiful views. To boot, the hotel provides bikes and has a private beach on the bay with toys and kayaks. We will most definitely be back!! Huge thanks to the everyone at the hotel for making our little getaway super special. “My group and I really enjoyed our stay at the condo rentals! We had a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment. There were foldout cots so we could sleep up to 6 people completely fine. The living room space was large and had a huge TV which was perfect for hanging out and watching movies and shows. The kitchen area was great and very convenient to use for prepping food and eating together as a large group. The shower was a little cramped, and it would be helpful if a shelf or something could be added to place shampoo bottles instead of having to put them on the floor while showering. The bathroom floor got rather wet easily and there was only one small floor mat provided. The cots were old and didn’t have good support in the middle of the mattress/collapsed down a lot in the middle when you slept on it. Noise-proofing was solid as we barely heard any sounds from our neighboring units around and from upstairs. The patio was a great amenity! We didn’t use the grills but there were several, we used the picnic benches and chairs to eat outside, and the outdoor spigot was good for rinsing off feet after the beach. Location of the Bay House condo apartments building and the main Blue Waters Hotel were all very convenient. The area felt very safe and night, was well lit, and our unit was behind the gate and at the back of the house so it felt much more secluded and private. The windows all had curtains that could be drawn for privacy, except for the front door window cutout which had no covering.

The best part of the stay was the service! Elaine and her team were so helpful and friendly to our group, answering all of our questions about the town and accommodating our requests without fail. Being able to rent bikes for 2 hour blocks and borrowing beach towels, beach chairs, and beach umbrellas were really fantastic services that benefited us greatly. Shoutout to the workers at the Blue Waters Hotel!

Lastly, one very important thing to note is to bring the remainder of payment in cash or CERTIFIED check. We messed up on the certified part and only brought a regular check, so we had to use an ATM to withdraw cash to make payment there.”

“I will say that the location mostly makes up for the deficits regarding the Fire Island Hotel & Bungalows.

I should preface this by saying I have only stayed in the bungalows with 2 bed and 1 bath. I have no experience with the hotel rooms. We have mostly positive to say about the two bedroom one bathroom bungalow with large deck and outdoor shower. We loved the outdoor shower/cabana. My Husband wants me to add that the outlets are in serious disrepair causing electrical hazards. The bathroom offers no privacy. It’s dirty at best with a layer of sand covering everything. No housekeeping service FYI- something to consider… The floors are completely worn & look like they have never been waxed or anything like that. There is a layer of sand everywhere. Absolutely zero upkeep… it was seven grand plus for the week - actually one day less than a week.

I don’t think there is any housekeeping service. It is basically an Airbnb type of experience… you are completely paying for the location. If you don’t mind - which we didn’t - you will enjoy it here. Upon arrival, we walked in & found the bungalow was stuffy and hot. I found a cockroach. The AC unit in the bedroom spit ice at My Husband when he tried to turn it on. The hotel had stuffed towels under the unit in anticipation of it leaking, I suppose.

One night we both were uncomfortable because of the tiny size of the room. There is absolutely nothing on the walls and it can be claustrophobic as a note to those who need a larger space.

Thankfully, the main area has vaulted ceiling with a non-operational skylight. The ceiling fan in the main area was covered in dust, which flies around when you turn on the ceiling fan.

The pullout couch should not be absolutely not be considered as an option. It is small and old and worn.

The temperature was very difficult to control. It was either freezing or hot. I wish they were ceiling fans in the bedrooms but the bedrooms are so small and the ceilings are so low it could not be possible.

There is overall very little privacy, so it would only be appropriate for parents traveling with small children, possibly. My Husband and I stayed in one room and I were Daughter and her boyfriend and the other.

I really don’t think they renovated much since Hurricane Sandy, but the location cannot be beat. We love Ocean Bay Park and if you also love it, there’s nothing better. We sometimes stay in Ocean Beach at the Palms, which has better amenities and probably more high-end rooms but it’s a busy part of town, which is a blessing and Curse. Personally, I like the piece, but My Husband prefers the poems since not only do you have use of the hotel you are staying in, but you can also use their location on the bay which has kayaks and stand-up paddles. It’s a further walk to the beach from Palms. I love the location of the bungalow at the fire Island Beach House.

I would recommend this location if you prefer the pristine nature and wildlife and neighborhood of Ocean Bay Park.

This is a very laid-back spot and the staff is friendly They also will hold your luggage so you can enjoy fire Island after you check out. They even take your luggage from the ferry to the hotel and from the hotel to the ferry when you leave. The service was not offered at the Palms.”
