The Pet Stop of Sylva
158 E Sylva Shopping Center, SylvaThis is a well stocked pet store. The ladies behind the counter were very friendly and helpful. While I was there someone came into the shop with a large dog. One of the ladies went right over and asked if she could give him a dog treat. They clearly have a heart for animals.

Dogwood Acres Boarding Kennels
24 Cove Creek Rd, SylvaRoy and Vivian took such great care of my dog Sadie when I had to visit a sick family member last minute. Sadie needed medication and to be monitored because she was having seizures. Roy was in consistent communication with me, sending me videos and letting me know she was doing well and she was getting her medication. I had such a positive experience with boarding Sadie at Dogwood Acres. It's such a gorgeous property too! My kids said they expected fairies and woodland creatures to be hidden in the woods (they're not wrong - it's beautiful). Looking forward to boarding Sadie with them again when I go out of town.

Pet Care

Smoky Mountain Integrated Veterinary Services
1054 Haywood Rd, SylvaMy chow Misty got very sick, very suddenly. This place was affordable (only $185 exam fee compared to $500+ at other places I called.) They quickly assessed her and told me it was very bad with a very poor prognosis and that even with the expensive surgery, she might not make it. This, to me, was important. It was a lot of money. I told them go ahead and do it and they did and she actually lived which is astounding. I have some vet med experience and have owned many dogs and am heavily involved with dogs. I knew the score. I knew she was almost certainly just going to die. This place saved her. Wonderful staff, very knowledgeable veterinarian who has been practicing as long as I've been alive.
Thank y'all for saving Misty Blue.

They worked us in same day, "old vets said it would be 3 days". Everyone at Jackson County Veterinary is Very Very nice. The cat is back to chasing bugs and lizards around the yard and we have a new vet.

Balsam Falls Brewing Co.
506 W Main St, SylvaWe had a nice time here, my daughter and I were unsure about what beer we wanted to try. Our wonderful waitress, Shawnee, (sorry if I'm spelling her name wrong)asked if she could suggest a beer she thought we may like, after asking what type of beer we enjoyed. Neither of us like IPA's. of course, we said, yes and It was a perfect choice. My daughter and I really loved it. It was called, Buttah beeah, a peanut butter white milk stout and it was one of the best beers we've ever drank. So delish! Honestly, we even brought one home with us Shawnee was a great, attentive and helpful waitress, very polite and friendly. She is definitely a wonderful asset to Balsam brewery. When we visit again we look forward to visiting Balsam brewery again.

South of Philly
44 E Sylva Shopping Center, SylvaWe checked out South of Philly in Sylva, North Carolina today, and having had family in Philly—where we’ve eaten our fair share of cheesesteaks—we were excited to see how it stacked up. The atmosphere instantly gives you that Philly vibe, ( if you know, you know, old school wood booths and all) and the food is impressively authentic. The cheesesteak hit the spot and tasted like the real deal. One piece even had a bit of gristle, which honestly just proves it’s real, quality meat. Overall, it was a great experience, and it’s definitely a place I’d come back to again. If you’re craving a true Philly-style bite in western North Carolina, this spot is worth the visit.

Great selection of beer. BBQ burger and tots are phenomenal. May have told wife it’s the best burger I’ve ever had… (6 beers deep, still very coherent and credible). No pics for evidence as everything was gobbled.

Toosweet Kennel
205 Too Sweet Rd, SylvaWe traveled from Charleston,SC 5 hours to pick up our Maltese baby. I can’t say enough about Mary Mccurry. She is top notch & communicated with us through the whole process. She is so knowledgeable & has bred Maltese for so many years. She is very reasonably priced. Her puppies are exceptional! My little guy just adapted so well when we got him home. He is so playful! He went right into his crate the 1st night. We have only had him 3 days but he is so settled in… just amazes me. Thank you Mary!
