“Great selection of meats, produce, frozen food, and miscellaneous items that change on a regular basis so make sure to check frequently for popup sales items during the week. Prices are very reasonable and sometimes incredible. One thing is certain, the owner/operator is not greedy at all, unlike the big box stores that gouge us to death. This is truly a case of a local store owner trying to get the best prices for the local citizens. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The store is kept clean even though it is often packed full with customers. There is often a line up to get into the store, but it usually moves fairly fast. The store is about to get bigger as a result. Overall the store does bring great grocery value to the local community without gouging while being profitable enough to remain open. It's the way traditional groceries were before big box stores appeared many decades ago. This is a local grocer that we citizens should support and be loyal to.”

“LOVE LOVE LOVE this store! The people that own it are super sweet, friendly and welcoming to everyone and are very knowledgeable about all their products. They have spices that I can't find at most places and have the nicest oxtail ever. I also buy my grandkids hair products here and they're amazing. You can't beat their great prices either. If I could give you more stars, I most definitely would. If you've never visited, I definitely recommend that you do!”

“I’ve been shopping at Union Foodmart for 2 years. They have an amazing selection of food products plus cook equipment and other items to serve and consume your meal. The staff are absolutely lovely and eager to help you find whatever you need or answer your questions. Shopping here is always a fun learning experience.”

“A very interesting place. In addition to simple food products, you can also find various interesting souvenirs here. Plus the place itself seems to be quite small overall, but there are different points of interest: Theatre, Liquor store, Wellness Centre, Library, Tim Hortons and restaurant. And of course, there is a ferry terminal near the place too. Probably objectively it should have been 4, but I really liked this place and its compactness, so to speak, without unnecessary huge empty spaces, so I’ll give it a subjective 5 based on my internal feelings.”

“It's always such a nice experience having the owners help find what I need and also recommend a few other things to help with ingredients. My parents have been frequent customers since we moved to Halifax over 20 years ago. I recommend it for hard to find items and just for supporting a local store that's been here for 40 years.”

“Hard to make a bad choice here. Everything I've tried has been great, and as someone who often forgets about meals until I'm already hungry, I appreciate a quality frozen dinner. I do find it a bit pricey though, so I usually wait for sales and stock up.

The staff at this location are very cheerful and personable, and always have an informed recommendation ready if you're looking to try something new.”

“A showcase for Nova Scotia food items.
If you are traveling try some local flavor instead of Costco or Walmart.
The bakery items are great.
The local blueberries are very tasty.”

“We dropped in for the Independance Cookout on Aug.5. The curried goat and jerk chicken were fantastic! This store is a gem and an asset to the neighborhood. I make sure all my international students know where to find Gloria's when they arrive in September. They sell products for customers the big grocers ignore.”

“The Grainery is such a hidden gem! They source a wonderful range of local and package-free items. Everyone who works there has been amazing with helping me to refill my bottles of soaps, etc. I love the cooperative structure of the business and am happy to support this kind of initiative in my community. Plus, the prices are incredible! Ethical, sustainable, and local - can’t go wrong.”

“We love this store, they always respect their schedule, coincidentally the store is always open when we have needed to buy, it is worth walking 3 blocks to them. This store has been our lifesaver when we ran out of food at home because the store always has eggs and milk. Thank you for your great customer service”

“Sobeys Penhorn, located in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, is a great option for grocery shopping.

I was impressed by the wide selection of fresh items, including fruits, vegetables, and meats, as well as the variety of international products and local specialties available.

The bakery and fish sections stood out for their exceptional quality and freshness, which added to the overall experience.

The store is well-organized, making it easy to find what you need, and the staff were very helpful and polite, always ready to assist.”

“Bay of Bengal Grocery Store is a great spot if you're looking for Desi/Bengali fish especially Rohu, Hilsa, Catla etc. It was our first visit, quite impressed with the variety and taste was also good. However, when it comes to other grocery items, the price was not clearly marked and found little extra compared to other grocery stores. But if fish is what you're after, this place is definitely worth a visit”

“Not sure what company runs the flower/ horticulture shops for Sobeys in Halifax, but they truly do an AMAZING job!! I am particularly impressed by the delightful array of flowers and plants always presented at the Queen St. Sobeys: they are always so well taken care of, and such a wonderful and ever-changing variety of species and varieties!! Most impressive indeed.”

“Al and Ahmed are the best! I was in town for the 2024 ACE and promoting National Retail Solutions and their POS and credit card processing rates and they were so friendly and easy to talk to. Make sure you go visit them and support their local shop”

“Only Closed on Christmas Day.
It is exactly what you would expect from a convenience store. a mix of odds and ends you may need. Whats perfect is the fact they are open 364 Days of the year, so even when most everything else is closed, they are open.”

“Switched back to Sobeys pharmacy from Shoppers Drug Mart because the label warnings Shoppers prints on prescription containers are illegible and Shoppers won't do anything about it. Sobeys warning labels are legible.”

“It's not a big store but has a decent variety of vegan foods and ethnic assortment. Like everywhere a lot of food is waayyy overpriced. Still sometimes you find good deals on fruits in season and some sales. I suppose they are doing the best they can and probably the buyers vote with their money. So if most people go for the unhealthy stuff, that's what drives the supply.
Sadly all grocery stores have a long way to go to match even the average grocery store in Toronto. What's most upsetting is that here in Halifax you can hardly find local produce. Most is from Ontario and such.”

“The locally made (Scotsburn) ice-creams here are a must-have if you're visiting. I recommend the chocolate peanut butter one that made all attempts at being a resilient adult seem like a distant dream.Decently priced and right next to the scenic Point Pleasant Park, so going for a walk with it was very satisfying.”

“I've been going to Atlantic SuperStore - Young Street longer than people under the age of 40 were yet to be born. I love everything about the store: the variety of food, the location, the prices, the knowledgeable staff -- and that includes the awesome security guards who always smile. I will never forget how thoughtful and kind the store employees were during COVID restrictions. I do realize how hard the employees work during beautiful summer weather as well as harsh cold wintery weather. I applaud Atlantic Superstore - Young Street for its constant high standards. Thank you!”

“Plenty of parking in the free parking lot. Brightly lit regardless of the time of the day and it's a very clean parking lot. Entrance is clearly visible and accessible to everyone regardless of mobility ability.
Inside the store was welcoming although somewhat crowded with the "specials" of the day, week, or month not wanting to be missed it is brightly lit which is hard on the eyes if like myself you're sensitive to light. Aisles are not the widest but are sufficient for 2 carts to pass. selection of products is vast as expected and sale items are clearly visible. The checkout process is fairly seamless with the usual time delay of waiting on line for your turn. Self check out is an option. Staff interaction was minimal albeit not an unpleasant experience. Smiles and friendliness abound on everyone's faces. Exiting was easy and plenty of room in the cart corrals for returning my cart with no visible wandering carts to be seen.”

“It's tiny, cramped and selection is relatively limited
However, smokes are decently priced, it normally has what you need and you really start to like the guy behind the counter
All in all, it's a nice shop”

“Joan in the self-checkout section helped my family out of a stressful situation today. I was not anticipating our checkout terminal to lock up half way through scanning our groceries. She was very collected and ready to help. I cannot say enough good about her presence in the store. Thank you Joan!”
