“Dollar For You is great. It’s right in Cabbagetown, just a few doors down from Dollarama, and the prices are basically the same — but the selection is better in a lot of ways.
This is where I go for hardware stuff especially. They carry practical, everyday items that Dollarama doesn’t always have, and it’s laid out in a way that actually makes sense when you’re looking for something specific. They also sell basic clothing items, which is a huge plus — especially in winter. Their selection of hats, scarves, and gloves is noticeably better, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need without overthinking it.
What really makes it a no-brainer for me is that it’s a small business, run by real people, not a big corporation. You feel that immediately. It’s functional, honest, and focused on serving the neighborhood rather than pushing a brand or upselling nonsense.
Same prices. More useful items. Local ownership.
For me, that’s an easy choice.”

I recently sold a beloved teak desk and credenza to Guff, and the process was easy and their friendly staff moved the pieces away in a very efficient, caring and professional manner. “Really pleasant selling experience... inspite of nothing being taken. I arrived when they open on a Saturday and was told my one large bag would be looked through within 10 min which was exactly so. The girl handling my items was extremely nice and courteous. She respectfully explained why my items weren't taken and even suggested I bring back a few as they might be more suited for next season. I will definately be returning!

“Value Village Queen St Toronto is one of my main stores I shop at. It’s a small store but I have found treasures. There’s a big paid parking lot in the back. The guys are very helpful at the donation center in the back. If you donate, you receive a 20% coupon and I am so happy they now expire in
December of 2026! The coupon applies to up to $50 worth of items. Tuesdays, seniors 60 plus get 30% off which is a great deal but expect it to be crowded..You can also fill out a brief survey on line to get $2 off a purchase of $5 or more. Remember to bring bags or they can be purchased there.”

“I’m sorry to say this, but the items in this place are supposed to be affordable for low-income people, while some of the prices are actually higher than they should be. When I was there this week, a floor lamp that IKEA still sells for $15.99 was priced here at $19.99. I wish the people who set the prices would do more research.”
