“5 stars — A meaningful return after more than 10 years
This Chapters location has always been one of my favourites in Ottawa. I have so many warm memories here from years ago — weekend visits with my family, browsing interesting books, and watching my son enjoy the Thomas train table. It was a place where we slowed down and shared simple, happy moments.
Tonight I revisited this store for the first time in over 10 years, and it felt truly special. Walking through the aisles brought back all those memories, and I realized how much this place has been part of our family life. The store is still spacious, calm, and inviting, with that comforting atmosphere I remember so well.
I also appreciate that this location stays open until 9:00 p.m., which is rare in Ottawa for a bookstore. It makes evening visits possible and adds to the peaceful experience.
A wonderful place to pause, browse, and reconnect with memories that stay with you.”
“What a fantastic bookstore. And so thrilled that it's still doing fine. It's a LOT more than just maps. It has a wo derful selection of books and related items, and a friendly, knowledgeable staff.
Always worth a visit.”
“Everything a neighbourhood bookstore should be! Warm, welcoming, cheery, and I love the staff selections. So glad The Spaniel's Tale is part of the Hintonburg community.”
“Come for the books; stay for the greeting cards, new-age accoutrements, attached coffee shop, free street parking on a good day, cheap next-door parking on a bad one, and the camera-shy house cat. I've successfully ordered books ranging from political commentary to science fiction. The staff are unfailingly pleasant and knowledgeable.”

“Forgot how great an independent bookstore could be. Perfect Books doesn't disappoint. Great selection and helpful staff. Found several books that I didn't know I needed and will be visiting again soon!”
“Thina, Ariane, and also a male staff member, were exceptionally helpful in searching out Astrix volumes that my grandson had not read when I was ill and unable to do this leg work. I am very grateful for their diligence in making this special gift happen and to them for getting the books into the mail in time for his birthday. Merci!”
“This is my go to store for cards because they have such a wide variety. I love that they are dog friendly and even know my dog by name! The staff are so friendly and helpful.”
“Lisa's shop is first class run by a first class human who cares about books and the people that read them. I introduced a young man to the shop who is very interested in Lenin and his writing and Lisa sent him home with enough Lenin to cover 13 square kilometres. Please support local! Please support independent book stores in Ottawa!”
“Great books store, wide selection of non-fiction and fiction, very limited collection of kids books, lots of french literature. Indigo won’t have what’s here.”

“Great selection of French books of many different genres. Loyalty card gives points to get $28 off if you buy enough books, which I did. :-) Good parking. My 9 yr old son found the obscure One Piece Manga (anime) books in French in stock and was happy. Lots of books in stock for my Gr 2/3 French Immersion class. Friendly staff. Very organized compared to another bookstore I visited. Merci!”
“Very kind staff, quiet environment and everybody is respectful. Good selection, including various topics (focus on fiction/creative writing), stationary, and many jigsaw puzzles to choose from.
Free paper bags that feel good quality.”
“This is the most well-organized used bookstore I have been to! Given that the relatively small space is absolutely packed with books, I was pleasantly surprised. I went in for a specific book and staff were able to put their hands right on it.”

“Stumbled upon this cozy gem today and was not disappointed! If you are someone who loves a less polished and more authentic bookstore experience - this ones for you. Interesting selection!
The owner James is a very kind and passionate individual who made this a memorable and educational trip! Excited to return!”
“I was pretty flustered because of a misunderstanding regarding different editions of the same book. Staff took the time to explain everything to me and helped me find what I needed for a course. They are knowledgeable and professional, and I'm happy to continue getting my university books there.”
“This is a great bookstore and gift shop, just make sure you confirm the hours before you head down. Candles, books, pendants, crucifixes, statutes - even some rosaries and scapulars. There's also a small kids section.Make sure you do what you can to support this store to support St. Pat's and ensure the bookstore can continue to operate in the future.”

“Love the ambience and quiet, slow atmosphere being surrounded by all these historic books. It's really almost like time-travel. I'm a bit sad that they didn't have the hard-to-find books I've been searching for but I do like the friendliness of the staff and the overall feel of the place! Parking's also not unreasonably priced!”
“Very impressed with this place. The gentleman with the awesome locks and facemask assisted me with a return that was a consignment sale. The item my son bought was 'old in box' rather than new in box an I think the glue and pieces started disintegrating (over the 20 plus years since it was produced). The person working the cash (I'm sorry I don't know your name!) let my son have his hard-earned money back - despite the seller of the item not providing the refund. Can't say enough about what this says about this employee/owner's character. Very appreciated. This is the kind of thing that will make us come back.”
“All praise to the book bazaar what a exceptional used book store. Very organized, friendly staff and a huge selection of books. I've been going to different used book stores all over Ottawa trying to find specific books by certain authors who are not as well know or are just obscure. It's been a painful task trying to find them but I found some of them here at the book bazaar. So if your looking maybe for some obscure titles just like me maybe you might find them here or find other hidden gems to take home too. ?”
“This is a place where you can find Bibles in French particularly at a good price.
There are still other informative and entertaining books to fill your mind.”
“Store is organized and clean. Customer Service was helpful and quick. Only wish they had some options for help with paying for textbooks whether a payment plan, or discounts for eligible incomes”
“Lovely bookstore with tons and tons of used books available at a relatively decent price. Book Market has a variety of options as the available books cuts across various topics and interests points. The downside is that it can be a bit chaotic with the not so oderly arrangement of the books. Therefore, of you're looking to discover something new through the pile, make sure you got a could of hours to spare. The staff are helpful with finding specific books you may be looking for. Free-of-cost on-site parking available.”
“Though modest in size, I found this Indigo to be well stocked, as I was able to find all the books I was looking for. I was also happy to see that this store was conducting a fundraiser to help a local school get books for their library.”
“A neat store, great staff, only problem is everything is pricey. Even the books professors choose are pricey, this is while there are better textbooks and free resources. They could provide custom resources printed, but they aren't doing it. Probably because of the commissions, and honestly it's only runs up student's money. While AI is flourishing and are better at explaining things in a language level and fluidity one wants without any ill intentions, I don't really see the need of these pillow sized textbooks. Maybe professors can use them as resources to build custom-printed, copyright-free textbooks for a 10-12 week classes. While holding onto the insight that students are not just taking one course per semester, and by being a bit considerate about the course load a student generally takes during a semester. Accept innovation and integrate it into learning.”
“What a wonderful place to find books for my young grandchildren. I am english with a little bit of French, and my little ones are being raised French. The staff was incredibly helpful in guiding me to find some wonderful books.
I highly recommend this store! Finding a good selection of French books in Ottawa was hard for me before, but now it’s easy!”
