“Always love to visit this particular book store. Always feels so peaceful and bright! Thank you for all the wonderful items you carry. One side note; I am a huge fan of chocolate and the individually wrapped fudge was terrible I am sorry to say. Please find a new supplier of fudge. Oregon has many great fudge makers including The Chocolate Frog in Lincoln City.”

“My bulk order was promptly delivered by LTL truck on two pallets. 100% of the order was shipped in a single delivery vs other vendors who have broken their orders up into multiple deliveries - sometimes spanning weeks. Very satisfied! Thank you!”

“This place is a neighborhood treasure for selection, knowledge and longevity. Broad range of subjects and always tasteful. Smiling, happy workers. Legendary like Powell’s but without the crowds. Magazines and cards, too. Parking can be a bit challenging around Broadway. Great bakery across the street.”

“Extremely cool book shop, one of the few I hadn't visited yet living here for over 20 years. My only regret is that I didn't find this place sooner! Carries some really powerful classics as well as unique and outstanding fresh literature.”

“If you like books you must visit! They have lots of used books as well as new. They have a shop area that has totes and lots of gift items too. They even have a cafe inside.”

“It's everything you want in a sci-fi/fantasy bookstore, books! Cozy setting but definitely easy to find whatever you want and books you didn't even know you wanted. They have the friendliest staff and it's just a delightful place to get some great books”

“I'm in a 2-person book club with someone whose taste in novels is highly discriminating, so when it was my turn to pick the next book and inspiration failed me in my online research I went to Powell's on Hawthorne hoping for some guidance. I encountered employee Nan in the fiction section and realized very quickly that I had just happened upon probably the best person there for the task at hand. Nan is a wealth of information about books in my desired genres and she really understood the nuances of what I was searching for. I bought several of her recommendations, including North Woods, which I have been recommending to friends since I binged it last week. I look forward to diving into Nan's other recommendations and picking her brain when I'm ready for some new reads.”

“In the landscape of Portland over the last few years there has been so much negativity. Leave that negativity at home and go to Wallace Books. Get lost in this jammed packed house full of books. This place is so uniquely Portland that it just personifies our Portland way. Portland is that big city that is not that big. This book store is a big book store that is not that big. Just Go check it out.”

“Despite the small space, I think I bought more books here than I have at any bookstore I've been to in many years. Mitch's curation is just spectacular for my tastes. Great if you're interested in literature, philosophy, and art.”

“I live quite a distance away, but have been wanting to visit since I heard about Blessings from Heaven on Mater Dei radio. My husband and I were greeted warmly and we took our time browsing at the beautiful and reverent items available. I was most interested in the books, and was pleased that there are many used ones in very good condition as inexpensive as 2.00! The owner is so kind and helpful. I plan to return, it is worth the trip.”

“I absolutely ADORE this place but I am BEGGING, PLEADING, for them to return to the pre-COVID layout of the store. All the adult books used to be along the wall with the ornate wooden shelves, and now they’re mixed up along the other wall. It’s difficult to follow the alphabetized order to navigate to certain authors. And sometimes people are sitting in front of the shelves! On a busy day, the walkway is pretty narrow and I feel like I’m in the way while browsing for books.”

“Wonderful bookstore with lots of titles related to the Japanese culture including Manga and Anime. Besides the books you'll find merchandise like vento boxes, chopsticks, plush figures, plates and more based on Ghibli Studios movies.”

“Best occult bookstore in the whole area. Expertly curated selection of books for serious practitioners. Beautiful Babalon altar as well. Looking forward to stopping by next time I'm in town.”

“Love this local book shop. They have a great selection and if they don't have something they will gladly order it for you. We have also used them to order class set donations for local schools which had worked out great. Wonderful customer service !”

“On Friday I was planning on selling some books back to Powell's, and then coming to get some lunch. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get there when they opened for buy back @ 10am. When I got there at 1:00, there was a huge line and the employees were up to their eyeballs (figuratively) in books...shocking I know. So i waited in line for about 30 mins, and then threw in the towel. I was hungry and people actually (see how I didn't use 'literally' there?) had plastic totes full of old books. Seeing as I failed to make it there today, and I am guessing they are closed on Easter, I guess these books will be living in my car for at least a week before I can get a credit for them....silver lining? I will be able to go to Dave's Hot Chicken for lunch while they are going through my (kids) books. See next review for yummy details”

“This place is so charming and well organized! The staff is friendly and generally I love coming in here. My one big note is that the way the new comics are displayed make them kind of hard to get out and results in a lot of the ones in the front being bent and creased. The selection here isn't as giant as other shops in the city but what it lacks in quantity it more then makes up for in atmosphere.”

“This store rocks! They have everything, even LGBTQ+ fiction and graphic novels/manga. They also have a section dedicated to Book of the Month books, which I loved. This store is definitely worth a visit, just make sure you have enough time to explore. Thanks again, Marcus!”

“Solid bookstore and friendly owner. Didn't find what I was looking for here yet appreciated the books and selection that he offered. Heaps of books and worth checking out if in the area.”

“After hours of desperately searching for a particular bag that was sold out everywhere, I came across Ruby Press’s website. I found the color I wanted (which felt like a small miracle), and quickly checked Google Maps to ensure the legitimacy of the storefront. I placed my order, and my bag arrived in perfect condition 3 days later. As a Hawai’i resident, that shipping time is faster than Amazon Prime! There was also a handwritten note enclosed with my purchase, thanking me for shopping small. Personal touches are what set these kind of shops apart from major retailers and supergiants like Amazon, and make me feel like the money I’m spending goes to real people who are making their own dreams a reality. Thanks Ruby Press! I’ll be sure to stop by in person if I am ever in town — until then, I’ll see you online.”

“This place is a hidden gem! I thought it was going to be small but they have multiple rooms. Lots of children's books, classics, educational materials, beautiful vintage books, history, and some Christian as well. The owner Eli is very nice and really knows his stuff! He was telling me about all sorts of vintage children's authors. Overall this is a great place to spend bookish time and keep your money local. Happy reading!”

“Fun place to browse, esp on a rainy day. I always find something I didn't know I needed. Last time it was a volume of Alice Munro's short stories. So glad this little gem brightens our part of NW Portland.”

“One of my favorite children's toy stores in all of Portland! A fantastic collection of everything from stuffed animals, puzzles, games, books, build kits, trinkets, and educational gifts. I rarely leave here without picking something up for my toddler son, who always enjoys whatever quirky new toy Dad brings home for him. The employees here also happen to be exceptionally sweet and welcoming, which is a huge plus. Very recommended!”

“Annie Bloom's is a treasure. There's nothing more delightful than an indie bookstore, in my humble opinion. The selection is good and staff are friendly. To top it off, they gift wrap your purchase and sell cards so you can get your birthday and holiday shopping done in one easy stop!”

“This place is cool. I personally think the one in Portland is better, it's a bit bigger so they have more stuff. Also took a star off because it was a bit overpriced. I don't mind paying more at a brick and mortar, but prices were still a little high. It was packed when I was there, but I think that's a testament to how cool the place is. If you go in the middle of a weekday, you'll probably have the place to yourself.”

“So much fun! An amazingly library-like collection of books in its meticulous completeness! Magazines, other printed materials and books, books, books, but organized in a tidy living/reading room that would grace any Victorian manse. He had cookbooks going back to the late 18th century. We found a fascinating copy of a 19th century guide to housekeeping that ranged from cooking and cleaning to tonic and tincture making and advise... which... shockingly given its age... proclaimed the health risks of smoking and included a picture of blackened lungs of a smoker after autopsy for effect! 150 years ago and people knew this? I guess it will take us another 100 years then to finally accept that climate change is real ...”

“Others have spoken about the selection of products and the customer service; I'll speak about the preview booths. For starters, as an FYI, paper towels for cleaning up are located at the back of the arcade to the right of the entrance, if you're feeling like you're going to need them, grab what you need before going in to a booth because there aren't any in the booths themselves- not a problem just know that. Yeah, there CAN be creepers who loiter and try to open doors even though the store has plenty of signage- pretty typical of adult arcades honestly. That being said, it seems as though some of the creeps periodically mess with the locks so they won't work - make sure yours works. The booths are big and relatively clean. The booths are equipped with upholstered bench seats (like a car or restaurant booth seats); though large the vinyl upholstery is old and cracking - could certainly use an upgrade. The video players could use an upgrade as well, the brightness on the screen is pretty high and washes out a lot of the color in the videos. Comparatively small, but diverse selection of videos.”

“There's some secrecy to this--the outside door is locked and you have to phone David in the shop. what a special place: books for booklovers, authors I've known about and couldn't find elsewhere, interesting writers I've never heard of, artists' books, rare editions. A bare bones atmosphere cause it's the books that matter. And David Abel has a national (if not worldwide) reputation as a book collector and evaluator, and is very generous with his knowledge.”

“Just visited the best bookstore in the world. Hate to be redundant, not true I live to be redundant. This is a fabulous place, I found a grand book on bridges today - saw an old friend and marveled at the most peaceful place on Earth. Truly wonderful stuff, so many directions to go in...I even grabbed a Pictorial Encyclopedia of Birds..don't ask but it seemed important to have. I would stop here on a Saturday and stay until they kick me out...”

“I recently went to Mother Foucault's Bookshop. Interesting selection of books. I went to the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics and did my thesis on the writing techniques of William S. Burroughs. It was awesome that they had many books by him along with interviews with him and biographies on him. I would have liked to see more books on spirituality here though and eastern religions. They did have some interesting books on the letters of Freud and books on World History. Lots of odds and ends. Worth checking out if in the area!”

“This is the best yarn/bookstore in Portland. Books stacked sky high with yarn tucked in too. It's the cutest little blue house. And Amanda and friends are just the most helpful friendliest folx you'll ever meet. Just go there and you'll see”
