“Our Amish Experience at Plain & Fancy Farm was the perfect way to begin our Lancaster journey. From the moment our tour bus arrived, we were warmly greeted by Melissa, who boarded the bus, introduced herself, and walked us through what we could expect during our visit. She was welcoming, organized, and did a wonderful job helping us understand the itinerary before we began.

Our first stop was the Sight & Sound Theatre, where we watched Jacob’s Choice, an amazing and heart-wrenching 30-minute presentation. Although the show was brief, it provided a meaningful glimpse into Amish culture, their beliefs, their traditions, and some of the choices families face within the Amish way of life. It definitely left an impression on me and made me want to learn more.

After the presentation, we continued our experience with a visit to a replicated Amish schoolhouse and homestead. This was one of the most educational parts of the tour. We were given a thorough look into the Amish lifestyle, including how they live, work, learn, and raise their families. We also had an opportunity to participate in a brief Q&A, which allowed us to better understand some of the customs and traditions we had just learned about.

One thing that really stood out to me was learning about the Pennsylvania Dutch language. I had heard the language before, but I didn’t realize the extent to which it is traditionally learned and spoken within the home rather than used publicly. It was fascinating to hear about the preservation of their language and how it remains an important part of their culture and family life.

I was also particularly impressed by the Amish work ethic. Learning that children, from a very young age and once they are able to walk, begin accompanying their parents in the fields, businesses, and daily work was eye-opening. They learn by watching, participating, and working alongside their parents. That is something I applaud 100%. We truly must lead by example, and there was something very powerful about seeing how those values are incorporated into everyday life.

Following the educational portion of the tour, we were given time to explore the Smokehouse BBQ & Brew restaurant and gift shop. The gift shop was large and had a nice variety of merchandise, souvenirs, and Amish-inspired items. My only criticism would be the pricing. In my opinion, many of the items were overpriced, and you were essentially paying commercial prices for products associated with the experience.

Overall, however, the time seemed to fly by. We moved from one location to another, and before we knew it, the experience was coming to an end. The tour was informative without feeling overwhelming, and I appreciated that it gave us more than just a surface-level look at the Amish community.

What I enjoyed most was the opportunity to step outside of our everyday way of life and learn about a culture that places such a strong emphasis on family, faith, hard work, simplicity, tradition, and leading by example.

The Amish Experience at Plain & Fancy Farm was a memorable and educational start to our Lancaster adventure. Melissa was a wonderful tour bus greeter: the itinerary was well organized, and each portion of the experience offered something different.

I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone visiting Lancaster who wants to learn more about Amish culture and traditions. Come with an open mind, take in the history, ask questions, and appreciate the opportunity to experience a way of life that is very different from our own.”

“The most amazing indoor playground! The staff was so kind and welcoming, we are here visiting for the weekend and we are so happy we found this place along the way! From the moment we first saw the property, we knew it gave us exactly the wedding atmosphere we had hoped for: that beautiful farm-style charm with all the modern comforts you actually need to enjoy the day. The outdoor spaces are absolutely stunning, and the indoor areas are just as beautiful — every corner of the property feels thoughtfully designed and picture-perfect.

We had our wedding on a very hot day in June, so having an outdoor ceremony while knowing the reception barn/hall had air conditioning made such a huge difference. It gave us the best of both worlds: the natural outdoor beauty we wanted and the comfort our guests definitely appreciated during the reception.

One of the things that truly stood out was the hospitality we received from Jessica and the staff. Jessica was wonderful throughout the process — kind, helpful, and clearly invested in making sure everything went smoothly. The staff on the wedding day carried that same energy, and it made such a difference in how relaxed and cared for we felt.

The bridal suite was perfect for getting ready — spacious, comfortable, and ideal for holding all of the ladies without feeling crowded. The men’s suite was equally great: subtle, clean, and aesthetically pleasing without trying too hard, which made it a great space for photos and getting ready as well.

I also loved participating in the leave-a-bottle tradition — such a unique and meaningful touch that made the venue feel even more special and memorable.

One detail I never originally imagined having at our wedding was a carriage, but once I saw how beautiful it looked on the property, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. It added such a romantic element, and having a venue that offers the space and setting for something like that is truly such a blessing.

The fountain also deserves its own mention because it added such an elegant and beautiful presence to our photos. It became one of those background details that elevated so many pictures without us even realizing how much we’d love it until afterward.

This venue gave us so many beautiful memories, and even two years later, we still talk about how grateful we are that we chose it. 🤍”

“Riverdale Manor is the perfect indoor and outdoor wedding venue. The second my husband and I walked into the ballroom we both looked at each other and knew this was the one for us. From the ballroom to the wonderful pavilion with the twinkle lights and hearing the water with all the trees. We had the honor working with Madison who was also our wedding coordinator the day of. I could not thank her enough for our wedding running so smoothly. Madison is very personable and made sure I didn’t lift a finger the day of the wedding, all I had to do was enjoy myself the day of. I could not recommend a better venue and phenomenal wedding coordinator. Our guests loved the outdoor area and we had so many people come up to us and say how beautiful the venue truly is. We also want to take a moment to shout our Madison one last time for sending home the most beautiful ornament that will go on our tree every year. Thank you so much!”

“We recently hosted an anniversary party at this location. It was lovely and exactly what we needed. Taylor (the owner) was more than helpful answering the seemingly endless questions we had. The price was totally reasonable and the space is perfect for smaller parties. We had about 45 comfortably. The kitchen is just perfect. Clean up was simple and hassle free. I hope to be able to use this space again in the future.”

“We were greeted at the front desk by a knowledgeable man who explained the place, gave us a map and explained the tour. He started the educational video for us. We were guided by a women in early American colonial dress around part of the buildings and then finished with a self tour. The place was beautiful and had historical buildings of different time periods. This place was new to me , which I try to find something new when we come to this area. It was a good history of the Pennsylvania Dutch people.”

“We hosted our wedding reception at the Eicher Arts Center in August 2026! This was a perfect little venue for our reception. We were able to have our food truck pull up just outside of the venue, we had a photo booth set up upstairs, and we used the outside deck as our dance floor. The owner was so helpful and quick to respond if we had any questions. The cottage next door was perfect for us to get ready in and take a break throughout the night if needed. This venue is perfect for all of your DIY dreams!

“We stayed here over New Year’s Eve and had the most wonderful time. Mandy and Brandon were amazing hosts.
They provided fresh eggs for breakfast from
their chickens! The house was decorated so cozy for Christmas and Brandon kept it warm while attending to the coal burning wood stove. Everything was clean, fresh and ready for our stay. There is plenty of space for family’s to enjoy and several games in the closet!
This place is a gem and beautiful, there is so much history to their story. We absolutely loved staying there and would stay again! Highly recommend!”

Ashley, who possesses superlative customer service skills, was available whenever we needed assistance. Our students really enjoyed all of the attractions, including the ropes course, laser tag, bumper cars, and the climbing space. We will definitely be back next year!”
