Great daytime service, very unwelcoming after 5 PM
This store is a clear example of how ownership and management attitude can affect the customer experience.
During daytime hours, the service is genuinely good. Staff are helpful, attentive, and willing to assist. If you visit earlier in the day, you’ll likely have a positive experience.
After 5:00–5:30 PM, the experience changes noticeably.
Although the store is open until 6:00 PM, customers arriving in the last half hour are clearly discouraged. When an owner or manager is present, you’re subtly rushed without anything being said directly. When only employees are working, assistance becomes minimal and interactions feel dismissive.
During one visit, I felt rushed and accidentally left an expensive earbud on the counter. I called the following day and was told it had been found and was being held. I drove 45 minutes to retrieve it. One evening I arrived just minutes after closing and missed them. The next day I arrived at 5:50 PM, still during business hours, and was told it couldn’t be located after only a brief look. No attempt was made to check further or ask another staff member. I was told to come back another day.
I explained that I had called ahead and driven a long distance, but the response did not change.
The overall impression is that once closing time approaches, customers are viewed as an inconvenience, even though the store is still open.
If the business intends to serve primarily daytime contractor traffic, it would benefit from aligning its hours and customer expectations accordingly. As it stands, homeowners who work standard hours are likely to visit in the evening and may leave feeling unwelcome.
I am making a third 45-minute trip to retrieve my property and will update this review based on that outcome.
In summary:
Excellent service earlier in the day.
A noticeably different and discouraging experience after 5 PM.
Update:
Since writing this review, I want to add an important clarification. When I returned and retrieved my earbud, the store included a $20 gift certificate as an apology. While I appreciate the gesture, I did not feel comfortable accepting it. I had already written an honest review, and accepting compensation afterward didn’t sit right with me. It goes against my personal morals, so I donated the gift certificate to a local nonprofit instead.
While this business does have the deficiencies I mentioned earlier, it also has clear strengths. At this point, I would say its greatest quality is its willingness and ability to improve. No business is perfect — every workplace has great employees, struggling employees, people who have good days and bad days. What matters most is whether a business listens, reflects, and tries to do better.
This store clearly monitors its reviews, cares about customer feedback, and is actively striving to improve its customer service. That counts for a lot. If you’re looking to support a local business that pays attention to its customers and wants to grow, this is one worth supporting.
As I said before, overall it’s a great hardware store. It’s clean, well organized, and has an impressive selection. Honestly, I could spend an entire day just walking around and looking at everything they have”
“A great store. I am by no means a handywoman but both times I've been in I've been helped by knowledgeable and courteous people. A younger lady gave me tips on what to mix my paint thinner in, and the next time an older lady kindly helped me with a pickup item right before close. I know if I have questions it is always safe to ask.”
“Dakota went above and beyond, to give me a great experience in his store! :) So genuine, patient, and a gentleman. It was lovely to meet him, and he holds a great conversation! I highly recommend people to check out his antiques, and more! He is very willing to help and answer any questions you may have. Thank you Dakota 😊”
