“I visited Born To Run in October 2024, after a coworker recommended I check out the store while I was looking for a new pair of running shoes. With Hilary’s (and her sweet dog’s!) help, I bought a pair of Saucony Triumphs. Now that I’ve put some mileage on them over the past months, I’m ready to leave a review.
Having just started running in March 2024 and moving to Philadelphia from out of state in August 2024, it’s safe to say that I had absolutely no idea what I was looking for in a new pair of running shoes. My visit to Hilary’s store was my first time buying a pair of running shoes—before that, I’d just been using my all-around walking shoes. Hilary was generous enough to share her time, knowledge, and expertise with me. First, she had me do a running test to figure out where my feet were striking the ground. Then, she gathered an assortment of many shoes, and guided me through trying them on. She even educated me about shoe sizing—and I learned that I’d be better off wearing a half size smaller than I was previously used to. I landed on a pair of Saucony Triumphs. Throughout the process, Hilary was friendly and kind. When she learned I’d just moved to Philadelphia from out of state, she even recommended some local running groups I could get involved with to help me find a sense of community with other runners in the area.
Months later, after having run in the Saucony Triumphs for a while, I’m quite happy with my purchase. The shoes took a while to break in, but once broken in, they transitioned into a smooth ride. I’ve been especially pleased with Hilary’s recommendation to go a half size down from what I’d normally wear. I’ve never been known for my athleticism—I’m pretty clumsy and can tend to wobble a bit while running. I’ve found, though, that the half size smaller shoes hold a bit tighter to my foot—while still giving them enough space to breathe—and helps to stabilize me while I’m running. That was quite the pleasant surprise!
All around, I was thoroughly happy with my experience working with Hilary at Born To Run. While I’ve since moved back to the state I originally moved to Philadelphia from, I would support Born To Run again in a heartbeat if I still lived in the area. Keep up the great work, Hilary—you helped this new runner find his way about the trail, and that’s much appreciated!”

“I went in search of shoes that I could wear to a wedding, but that I could also wear regularly so I could get my moneys worth out of them. Unfortunately I did not find many that would work for me. I have wide feet and only saw two shoes in a wide size. Then the shoes I found that I liked were not in my size. Luckily I was able to find one pair that would work for me, even though I didn’t really like the way they looked. I also found that the shoes in the “clearance“ section were still quite expensive so I’m not sure what clearance means here. On the bright side I was able to find a coupon to use and the cashier was very nice. Next time I shouldn’t wait until the last minute to go shoe shopping.”

“I had never heard of Vionic and stopped in while shopping in the area. Much to my surprise I was looking for just that, a supportive shoe for my trip after an ankle injury. Jeff greeted me with enthusiasm and plenty of knowledge about the brand I had never heard of. Jeff asked me a few questions and asked if he could measure my foot and if he could take the initiative of pulling some items for me to try. I sincerely appreciated his approach of asking as he was not wanting to be pushy and setting a boundary for me to decide. He was so helpful and understanding of my likes and dislikes. I could not have asked for a better experience at this store. I felt like Jeff kind of brought back this old school retail customer service that was above and beyond if that makes sense. I would highly recommend this store and I will be back as there was so many other cute items and accessories to choose from including adorable purses. Thank you Jeff and my feet will thank you too!”
“I bought dress shoes online initially, which looked and fit great. Wide sizes were easy to find. I got a stain on one of the shoes so rather than get the wrong product, I went into the store to ask about shoe care. Topanga, the manager, was very enthusiastic about helping me get the right shoe care products and how to use them. She even helped me get the right product for another pair of leather shoes I have. I took the shoes in with me so she could determine what the best products were for it. So glad I stopped in vs just guessing and potentially ruining my shoes! They look as good as new now! Highly recommend!”
“We always get a proper fit and long lasting shoes. My 4&6 yo boys wear a lot of shoes out within weeks. We’ve had a lot of success with the Merrel, stride rite, and tsukihoshi brands lasting a long time. These are not cheap brands but find they’re worth it.”

I did not buy my dress that day and wanted to sleep on it- which was encouraged by Alison, which is wonderful that there was no pushy salesperson attitude. They truly want you to think through your big purchase and make sure you pick what you love.
A week later, I reached out wanting to try on the dress again before purchasing- they were able to fit me in, and I ordered the dress that day. It came directly to my house a few days later. Highly recommend!”

“I had taken my Mother to see Mr. Hugh Gbewonyo for unbalanced gait and severe painful arthritis. He greeted her with kindness and was very professional. After scanning her foot he explained what was happening to her anatomically as she walks. He custom designed orthotics and appropriate footwear. She felt "like she had new feet" and could not thank him enough for the support and encouraging words. God bless this young man.
