“This is an update to last review, I might just delete last one about WiFi issue. I had a “old man” moment and overreacted, management assured it is just an upgrade and members will be back on again soon, smh, smack myself for jumping the gun.”
“It’s easy to reduce gyms to simple metrics like cleanliness, availability of the equipment, etc. I’ve worked out in gyms in Boston and New York City and in these respects, most competent gyms are basically the same. YouFit North Providence sets itself apart in a few ways: community, customer service, and training expertise.
The community that goes to this gym is tight-knit. The vast majority are regulars who are eager to welcome others into the fold, which is actually really rare. People want to help each other, but don't encroach on one another; people want to spark conversation, but don't force interaction. The clientele is a wide array of shapes, sizes, ages, and backgrounds, so truly no one is out of place.
The community is reinforced by the friendliness and helpfulness of the team members on staff. The staff members are caring and positive without being fake. Shannon, the general manager, has been spotted cleaning up water during a plumbing mishap or shoveling piles of snow off of handicap parking spaces. Members of the front desk staff and trainers have been seen helping clients with mobility issues get from their cars into the gym to work out.
The most important piece for me, personally, is the training expertise. I work with a personal trainer, AJ Vieira, who has over 20 years of experience in training lifters of all ability levels. I was afraid to get a personal trainer before, having been a distance runner for so many years and embarrassed that I didn’t really know some basic techniques. AJ made me feel at home in strength training, helped deprogram me from all the YouTube fitness influencer nonsense, and coached me as I recovered from a long standing QL/Core/Glute asymmetry issue. When I faced flares during my recovery, AJ was there to let me know I wasn’t fragile or broken, that I was going to recover and get back to intensity. He modified programs while I worked on PT, put safety and my recovery first, and made me feel like I was still an athlete even when I felt like I was down and out.
I’ve looked around at other gyms in the area and sure, they all have great equipment, convenient hours, and helpful staff, but in my experience, it’s rare to have a confluence of a community, caring staff, and a set of really knowledgeable trainers under one roof like they have at YouFit.”
“Push Factory is such a gem!! The gym itself is clean and full of quality equipment my regular gym did not have. The classes are challenging but fun - especially love Coach Meme’s bar class and the boxing classes from Shane. The coaches are so supportive and the environment is positive - no one makes you feel stupid for needing help or a modification. So so glad I found this place - I want to be a part of the community they have created.”
