“I took my car to Caliber because we’ve worked with different locations before and have always had a good experience. We needed repairs completed after we were rear-ended. The at-fault drivers insurance was taking care of the damage. It took around 3 weeks to complete the repairs, but that was fine. Everyone at the location is very nice, especially Ms. Wendy. She’s very sweet and straightforward. Mr. Jamiel was the tech who worked on our vehicle, and he let me show him the damage and talk about what happened. He was very pleasant. Everything went smoothly until we got the final total. Initially the at-fault driver’s insurance cut us a check for the estimate of the damage. We were prepared to hand that over and get out without paying anything out of pocket. However, Caliber used a a specialized, factory-grade part that wasn’t standard, so the insurance didn’t approve that cost. This resulted in a 10% betterment charge ($100) for a part we didn’t approve. Neither the insurance nor Caliber consulted with the vehicle owner to approve this. I would have told them to find a refurbished part or wait for a standard part because I wasn’t prepared to pay anything for an accident that wasn’t my fault. I don’t fully blame Caliber, but my hope is that they contact the vehicle owner about stuff like this if/when insurance denies coverage. That’s when the owner should be notified and worked with. Simply purchasing a part and hoping the owner is okay with it is unacceptable. Other than that, Caliber did their job well and even delivered my car to my home because my work schedule would have forced the team to have to stay later so I could pick it up. This is a really nice perk and almost made up for the 10% betterment fee.”
