“Update: visiting the hometown Alamo City from my new home in Thailand. Had to visit my fave gym and break a sweat. It's still the best gym ever.
Old review:
My favorite gym in the world. Been working out on Fort Sam Houston since 1980.”
“I appreciate that The Fit Stop CrossFit is only 13 minutes from me. When I miss a class, they check in on me, which shows they genuinely care. I'm grateful to the coaches for guiding me step by step as a newcomer to CrossFit.”

“Michael was absolutely amazing. He was able to tailor his understanding of body mechanics to my functional needs and it showed through the progress. I’ve done physical therapy on and off for years and within the 2 months I working with Michael I saw and felt more progress than I have in the past years. I would 10/10 recommend trying Functional Fitness out. There’s a big difference between functioning through the pain and injuries and being functionally fit and aware through the movements. It’s the difference that improves a quality of life.”
“First timer doing this class. I underestimated the workouts going in, but love how all the weights and workouts are preset so you can just go in and get started right away. Definitely will be looking to go back”
“I’ve been a member at Alio Fitness Club since May 2025, and I joined based on a recommendation — I’m so glad I did. I’ve taken the group classes and done 1:1 personal training, and both have been such a great experience. The meal prep service is actually really good and super convenient, especially when life gets busy. The gym is always clean and welcoming, and the atmosphere is different from most places. Not only is the staff genuinely happy to see you, but the members are too. It really feels like a community. I can walk in after the worst day, and after just a 30-minute session my mood completely turns around. They also host member-only events that are fun but still centered around health and wellness, which I love. The accountability here is amazing. Whether I’ve missed a few weeks or my nutrition hasn’t been the best, I’m always met with encouragement and reminders of my progress. If you’re ready for a change, this is the place to make it happen. 💪🏼”
“Love ALL the coaches here! Super welcoming and always ready to hype you up. I tried a free session during Buddy Week and was instantly hooked!! it kicked my butt in the best way! Joel helped me set clear goals and took the time to create a plan that even worked around my vacation. Great music, great energy, and members who hold each other accountable. Perfect if you’re starting to drag going to a regular gym alone. 100% an investment In yourself.”
“As a former CrossFit athlete who cannot compete with the Texas heat, continuing to pursue my fitness goals at this particular OTF gym has been so much more fulfilling than any competition I’ve ever done. The coaches and SAs genuinely and actively participate in my strength goals and have even turned me into a … dare I say it.. runner! I completed my first 10k and signed up for two more 5ks because of the focused and attentive coaching I’ve received at OTF Quarry. The coaches motivate and encourage me to push past what I think I can’t do and celebrate each and every personal milestone I and all their members reach in our personal fitness journeys. I recommend this gym without reservation. Thank you, OTF Quarry!”

“Love this place. It is great having access to three different studios with the membership. The classes are challenging, but my body always feels refreshed and relaxed afterwards. There’s an assortment of yoga classes from bikram, power, to yin, etc. They also have kettlebell and TRX classes, and much more. There’s a good mix of people from all different backgrounds and ages that come here. Most, if not all of the teachers make it a point to remember who you are and always make nervous newcomers feel welcomed. :)”

The programming is well designed and helps members of all fitness levels build strength, improve conditioning, and stay consistent with their goals. “My wife and I were in town for PLU Nationals and just needed a place to move and get a little weight under me ahead of the comp. My coach had mentioned Heavy Metal, so we decided to check it out. When we arrived, the gym was busy with trainers working with their clients, but that didn't stop one of them from coming over and immediately helping us get signed in and taken on a quick tour. We felt welcomed right away as we were shown around; this gym has just about everything a powerlifter or strongman could need! Later, the owner came over, introduced himself, and wished me luck on Nationals and they even offered to open up early for the rest of my team if they needed it the next day. Top notch group of humans and great place to train. We will definitely be back if we're in town again!”
“Our daughter has had a great experience at Maverick’s Gymnastics. Coach Andre and Coach Mimi are knowledgeable and pushes the girls to do their best but still makes it enjoyable for the team. We are so glad we made the switch to have our daughter join Maverick’s last Summer!”

“My good friend recommended Oso Gym and I messaged their IG page. Someone responded promptly and I met the head coach at the gym the same day; Eric. He was very kind, welcoming, and showed me around the gym. A few members at the gym were welcoming as well. You can feel the strong sense of community in the climate of the gym. I’m very happy I found a temporary gym home while in San Antonio. I invited my coworkers and three of them have also joined! I love the workouts! Typical one hour time frame. Very challenging but there are scaling options for every fitness level. The gym has everything you expect in a CrossFit gym and there is a lot of space. I highly recommend you to drop in if you’re looking for a great workout.”
“I’ve been working out at Fit Bound for 4 months now and love it here. Marty is knowledgeable about all different kinds of workouts and also provides a meal plan for you when you get started. I have never looked forward to going to the gym before I joined Fit Bound, but now I go consistently every week. Marty is a great trainer who holds you accountable and pushes you to be your best. I couldn’t recommend joining enough! Bonus: sometimes there’s cute dogs:)”
“It's sad to hear the news that CCC is closing its doors. I'll tell you my experience anyway If any of you ever follow Infinite Elgintensity, you'll see that there's no love lost between him and crossfit. His videos are all Cobra Kai on the crossfit community "no mercy." But then there's Joe. The man, who in my humble opinion, is the gold standard of what separates working out from training. I could easily plop down a few bucks at Gold's with a trainer, wait in line to use the squat rack, but some girl is using it to post pics on IG. I guess I could get some cardio by racing other people to the weights. Sure, but why would I? You don't get that nonsense at CCC. There's weights, squat racks, etc to get going. Just remember, I stepped through those doors, and Joe greeted me. It was like entering the Jedi temple and being greeted by one of the Master Jedi. Doing the Jedi Mind Trick, Joe waved me over. We went through the whole spiel, and I won't lie and say I wasn't mesmerized. This was the real deal right here. Medic in the army, several tours, worked with other soldiers to help them pass PT, etc------all on the list. I was thinking a year with this guy, and I'll be like Anakin Skywalker. I went in there weighing about a deuce and a half, and I left there a little under a deuce. I went from knowing what a pullup looked like to pulling off weighted pullups. I was deadlifting 380. There wasn't a moment in time when I remember pulling off these feats. After doing those pullups I felt like I could just say screw it and Tarzan my way home, but there weren't enough vines. Real talk, I look at myself at my last day there and think that was my peak self. Damn that's messed up. My peak self should be in the future not the past, right? Now I have to rethink my life. J/K I have to find a new place, but damn CCC is hard to beat”

“I absolutely love CrossFit Mettle! Moving away from home and finding a new gym can be scary, but EVERYONE has been so welcoming! 100% the best part of my day is coming into class.
I was never a morning workout person, but now I’m excited for mornings! The coaches really care and want you to succeed! The energy they bring is unmatched. They really believe in you on the days when you don’t believe in yourself.
Shoutout to Coach Amber and Coach Olivia for challenging me to be better every workout. I’ve progressed to skills I never thought I’d be able to get because of them!
The bathrooms are also so clean they must be power cleaning!
Overall GREAT place!”

“I love this gym! The wide variety of equipment and knowledge of both the trainers and the members is top notch. Everyone is willing to help and offer advice. Tina and Seneka are very knowledgeable and great trainers, whether you just want to get in better shape, or you want to compete, or just need that extra push. I'm reaching my goals and getting stronger each week. Everyone is friendly. It's a great atmosphere for those who are serious about getting in shape. I did take off one star, because the music being played could be so much better, especially the heavy metal first thing in the morning. If the music gets better, I will update and add a star! So don't forget your headphones...because if you do , your ears will not love you. I also wish they had a water fountain so you could refill your water bottles.”

“Been with 1+Plus CrossFit since 2023, the best place to go and feel confident! When I first joined, my confidence wasn't good until Coach Lufe and other coaches, made sure I was acknowledged and helping building my confidence with positives endurances.”
“So l am giving post gym 4 stars. Now in my eyes it's 5 stars because it has everything I need to have a great workout and feel accomplished. Now I put 4 and others might even give it a 3 because to someone else the gym is small and not air conditioned. Now as of last month April 2023 they got new equipment. So that's a plus but I can understand how aesthetically and also no air conditioning can be not appealing to others. They do have showers and the gym is kept fairly clean. Staff is also nice and can help assist with form if needed. If you need a smallGym to get your ish together and pump a workout out this is your place. Go and get your workout on. It's a 5 star gym in my book but be aware your getting a basic old gym. Have a good workout you all. Pump Gang!”
