“We booked this hotel for a weekend getaway where we could truly relax, unwind, and enjoy some quality time together. We checked in later in the evening, and right away we were impressed by how large and beautiful the hotel was.
We parked in front of the hotel to check in and unload our luggage. I was a bit surprised to learn there was a $400 incidental hold placed on my account, as I’m more accustomed to a $100 hold. However, since we’re not wild guests, I wasn’t too concerned. Parking was $36.92 per day, and while the garage was conveniently located directly under the hotel, I do feel that hotel guests shouldn’t be charged that much. If the parking belongs to the hotel, it should be complimentary, or at least offered at a discounted guest rate. We were given drink tickets upon check-in, but we didn’t get around to using them.
Once we entered our room, I took photos and videos and was honestly shocked by the number of visible damages. I immediately called the front desk and was asked to come down and show them the photos. The staff seemed genuinely surprised and explained that housekeeping is supposed to report all damages to management. If these issues weren’t previously reported, I can’t fault management for that. Later that evening, management called our room to apologize and offered to move us to another room. We declined since we loved the corner room and had already settled in. They kindly offered a discount on our first night, which we appreciated.
The hotel is in a great location, right across the street from the train station and about 2 miles from charming Old Town Alexandria. On warmer days, it would be an easy and enjoyable walk. Since it was very cold during our stay, the hotel guests took advantage of the free trolley service, which was a nice bonus.
Breakfast was far from the typical hotel breakfast. There was something for everyone. We enjoyed freshly made omelets, toast, fresh fruit, orange juice, and coffee. The breakfast staff were very kind and friendly, and the hotel overall was very clean and well-maintained.
I did deduct one star because, considering the nightly rate, parking should be free or no more than $15 per day.
Overall, we had a great stay with comfortable night’s rest and delicious breakfast. We didn’t get a chance to try the restaurant this time, but we definitely will on our next visit. We plan on returning again soon.
Ps. This is a pet friendly hotel which was another bonus.”

“Update After Checkout:

Though I stand by my various areas for improvement, I’m updating my review from 2-stars to 4 for a few reasons:

1) our stay improved after that first day, including having the internet working flawlessly the last two days of our stay.

2) our room, and the hotel overall, were actually very nice (though the lack of attention to the various details I highlight below still were surprising for a property of this quality).

3) the front desk manager Adam went out of his way to make up for the various issues we were having and ensured our stay improved after those first 36 hours. His responsiveness to our concerns made a big difference.

Original review: This supposed 4-star property isn’t yet ready for prime time. I’m staying here now and we’ve had a terrible experience, despite staying in one of the nicest rooms available (a one bedroom suite on the top floor).

Where to begin…perhaps with the internet that has maybe worked 2 hours out of our 36 here so far. Or how about the bait-and-switch “Autumn special” that included breakfast when we booked, but failed to mention that the restaurant isn’t yet open for breakfast so what’s included is coffee and a croissant at the coffee shop off the lobby. Add that to the terrible tv interface in the rooms that claims to allow casting from your favorite streaming service but doesn’t work, no towels or cups for water in the gym, no place to get ice or fill water bottles on the floor, only one towel hook in our enormous bathroom, meaning one of us has to leave our wet towel draped over a chair in the room, etc., and you get a hotel that looks nice, but fails at so many important details that makes a good hotel stay. Oh, and the hotel is far away from the sites and action in Alexandria. Won’t be staying here again and will be asking for a refund for our special “breakfast” package so we can use that money on a real breakfast elsewhere.”

“Great location. Within a block of a metro station. Rooms are nice. Staff is friendly and helpful. They deal with problems promptly. Nice exercise room. Only downside is this is a timeshare facility. They're very insistent you attend a sales meeting. Be prepared and tell them no.”

“I love Westin properties because they have such comfortable beds. This hotel is very nicely appointed. They have a great breakfast in the cafe (although no buffet). My room was very clean. The reason for the 4 stars is that the hallway and my room smelled of mildew. They sprayed a ton of deodorizer to mask the odor.”

“I had issues with my room it was dirty and there was thermostat issues. However, the pillows were amazing and lofty and the bed was very comfortable. The laughing hyena lady working at the front desk was super annoying.”

“BW plus Richmond Hwy has a beautiful building in a shopping area. McDonald's next door. Art Massage next to that, and many restaurants there's even a bbq courtyard out back of BW Plus. Hotel is clean and comfortable. Best I can find for the cost. Hot and cold choices for breakfast in a huge cafeteria. Relax in a padded booth, eat your delicious free breakfast and watch local news.... knowing how close you are to DC. Bus stops heading to either Franconia-Springfield or Huntington metro stations are right out front too. When I come back, I may rent a car because parking is free too.”

“For quick night away this hotel checked all the boxes. Close to great restaurants, all within walking distance. The staff were friendly and helpful. There was an event on site but it didn’t impact our stay in fact it added energy to the evening. The Study Bar was a great place to end the evening with craft made cocktails.”

“My choice for my Staycation. Perfect location in regards to several tourist attractions in the Mount Vernon Virginia area. My room was comfortable and very clean. This hotel has been remodeled and it shows. It's beautiful. Hotel was peaceful and quiet. I slept soundly. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The Peloton bike was a great add on. Breakfast was hot and delicious with several choices. Great stay.”

“Hotel was nice. Service was good.
Location is right beside an above ground metro stop, and woke me up regularly all night long from the loud squeaking and noise. The hotel info doesn't mention this, but they do put foam ear plugs on your night stand, so they are aware of this issue.”

“4 blocks from the water and 10 minutes from DCA. The front desk immediately knew my room phone was broken because I called from my cell phone. They brought me ice as the 5th floor ice machine was broken. Extra friendly and helpful. Marriott should use the amazing attitude of the staff from front desk to the restaurant. Kudos. AND the perfect balcony view from room 543 during sunset. Thanks.”

“I’m giving this location 5-stars because of the late night desk manager Daya. I was in a tough spot and Daya saw my predicament and treated me with kindness and compassion. Daya must have done something super kind for me to take the time to send this review. Things may not be the Taj Mahal but the kindness of one person can make a huge difference. Thank you Daya!”

“Hyatt Centric Old Town Alexandria, Virginia

When Bruce Springsteen announced he and the E Street Band would be performing at Nationals Stadium in D.C., I reached out to family and friends to see if they could be in town for the show. When my sister responded that she could make the show I immediately looked for a hotel in Old Town Alexandria (VA). I've lived in Alexandria for 14 years and believe we're well served by the hotels operating locally.

Because she would be arriving from New York on Amtrak, I looked for hotels in Alexandria that are within walking distance of the King Street Metro station. There’s an Embassy Suites, a Hampton Inn, a Hilton, and a Hyatt Centric, all within a five-minute walk from the Metro station.

Right from the start the experience was a good one. My reservation was quickly recognized, as was my membership in the World of Hyatt, Hyatt’s loyalty program. I was able to cover the cost of two nights ($580.92, including taxes, total for the two nights) when I checked my sister into the hotel.

The hotel is perfectly located for using the Metro bus and rail lines (a five minute walk to Metro’s Yellow and Blue lines and bus lines) – including the bus that will take you across the river to the MGM Grand Hotel in Oxon Hill, Maryland. There’s also a free bus and trolley circulator and free DASH buses that all share a bus stop directly across the street from the hotel.

The bar is well stocked and staffed by friendly and courteous bar staff. There’s a valet service (best to check first about the cost – I think it was $45 per night but I didn’t need it so I’m not sure I have the price right).

The Hyatt Centric Old Town is probably the newest of the national brand hotels located near the King Street Metro station. It’s clean, reasonably priced for the area, and as far as I can tell it’s a safe and secure option for visitors to the DMV (District, Maryland, and Virginia).”

“I spent four nights here for a solo trip and overall had a postitive experience. A few highlights, certainly the location and close proximity to the metro. Housekeeping came in to the room every day and kept the room very tidy. Lastly, the breakfast served at the restaurant was fast, delicious, and huge portions.

On the negative side of things, the hotel has seen a lot of wear and tear, everything looks alright from 10 feet away, but it looks pretty tired in general.

Not sure what influence the hotel itself has on this if any and it may be a neutral point, but there were at least 40-50 National Guard members staying here and basically taking over the lobby/bar/restaurant area when gathering.”

“UPDATE! Once again I stayed and Lacanas and the Operations manager provided me oustanding service. I love staying here. The location is perfect, and the service is exceptional! OUTSTANDING EXPERIENCE & AMAZING STAFF!! Huge shout out to LaCanas & Katrice! I found them to be professional, welcoming, friendly, funny, and serious about taking care of their guests. “We checked in on 11 March 2026 for just one night and Angela was great at the counter. The room was very clean and fully stocked. Breakfast was good. When we checked out, Angela was there again. She was great to talk with (very friendly).
The only negative was that you can't park right in front of your room.”

“Exactly what you deserve! A fantastic justice for you and your whole family that one would be wise to mark on the map as a "must do" on that next road trip. Don't miss out and make the best destination a plan. Amen.”

“Very nice staff. Very helpful. Comfy rooms. Mini fridge and microwave. I was surprised at the quality of the toilet paper. When we went to leave, our car battery was dead, the manager loaned us jumper cables and the housekeeper helped us with her car to start ours up again. Would stay again.”

“Great staff! Nice rooms! Maybe bring an extension cable though cause the light prongs limit the number that can be plugged in. So only one lamp can really be in a socket at a time. Amazing painting of Lincoln!!! Take photos with it!”
