“Such a cool collection of little stores in shops that are owned by Independent operators. Not your average shops with many things made in Virginia or right here by the local artist. From beverages to bakery to food and gifts you'll find a little bit of everything!
If you want to make something yourself there's a public makerspace here that you book online Yusuf a laser, 3D printers, you name it!
What a cool find”
“Ate at the Mexican restaurant. The food was great, except the white sauce was a bit too spicy. It's usually not spicy at all. The white sauce is a Norfolk regular, created years ago by a fellow who had lived in Mexico, I believe. It's creamy and usually not spicy at all. I think the red sauce is too spicy (hot) for me so I always ask for the white sauce also.”
“I’ve been coming to Savarana for almost 10yrs and Shagufta is the only person I let touch my eyebrows and she is AMAZING- Kind, welcoming, attentive to detail and accommodating to whatever requests you may have (even doing my brows on her lunch break- WOW)!”
“An area with basically everything you need as far as shopping and restaurants go. There is everything from Walmart to tobacco shops, dollar tree, clothing and shoe stores, ABC and Aldi. There is a wide variety of restaurants as well”
“Picked up some ribs on sale at Food Lion. You can't go wrong with their Swift ribs and Sweet Baby Ray's sauce. Grabbed a $2.99 watermelon and stuck it in the fridge. It is juicy with good texture, but there is no sweet flavor at all. Like it was hydronically grown. Big letdown on the watermelon. On the plus side, we do have a new Panera Bread close by in Southern Shopping Center.”
“Advance Auto located here for easy oil and brake fluid recovery. I needed a clothes steamer for the wrinkles, since my old one shorted out and threw sparks on a shirt. Walmart had 1 listed at the Super Store on Tidewater Drive. In stock-in store. I get there and...NOPE. I was told Little Creek had 1. So, off to Little Creek I go. I got the one I wanted-$22. They only had that one, and I was not going to pay $45-$60 for one at either store. They all just make...steam. This one is a Hamilton Beach so I'm good. Thanks Little Creek Walmart! ?”
“First time in this newer store to the Outlets maybe. I don't recall them,
Friendly service upon walking in the door. I browsed the F1 Series shoes and shirts which I was thinking would make a good gift for my son.
I was looking for a vest, but only ones in stock were for Women. The staff said that Men's vest are online.
For a first experience it was very good. The store was clean, organized and displays attractive, Pricing seemed ok too!”
“Very beautiful building in downtown Norfolk. Very old too - built in 1907 per website. Definitely historic! A bunch of businesses are housed inside - and as of 11/29/2018, here are a few (not listing all,): CHARTREUSE BISTRO CLOUD SCIENCE PRAXIS CREATIVE SMOOTH (Skin & Waxing Boutique) The hours for the main Monticello Arcade building are: M-F 7:30 AM - 6 PM Sat 9 AM - 6 PM Sun closed Check it out, the full listing of businesses inside are on their website. It's very nicely and classically structured so the main hall makes for great pictures! Another bonus - its across the street from MacArthur Mall (on the City Hall side,) and across the street from Selden Market (Plume Street side.)”
“I LOVE THIS PLACE FOOD IS ALWAYS ON POINT THE PORTIONS ARE HUGE KOOL-AID ON POINT THE ONLY BAD THING I HAVE TO SAY IS JUST CHANGE THE GREASE CAUSE I COULD TASTE THE BURNT GREASE ON THE CHICKEN THATS MY ONLY NEGATIVE COMMENT OTHER THAN THAT FOOD IS DELICIOUS MAGNIFICENT”
“I love to shop Save a lot for affordable nice meats. It's the place to go if you like a bang for your buck. They have a variety of fresh fruits and veggies for a good price as well. My only issue was at the register you can enter your phone for rewards I guess. I asked two employees about the program, but they didn't speak English. Overall a great shopping experience.”
“This is a very unique shopping center with surprisingly a little of everything for budget shopping! Plus a few hidden gems like the hair salon and plasma clinic. Would be nice to have a few more dining selections, however there is still plenty of space to improve. Also located right by a major HRT bus stop so easy to get to, no matter your transportation barriers!:)”
“It's in the hood. Lock your doors and move fast. The Dollar General is small but the staff is very helpful. The hair supply store has expired products. Ther post office is clean.”
“I love the fact that as a member the gas is always $0.05 cheaper. Add the fact my membership adds another $0.05 off and I am stoked! Never wait in line all that long and even when I travel to Florida there is a BJ’s close by!”
“From Harris Teeter to Domino's to the ABC Store Burger King and McDonald's to KFC/Taco Bell, this is a fabulous neighborhood shopping center with a SubWay sub shop and the Ocean View Hardware and Doug's Hot Dogs. This shopping center has it all.”
“Love their Gas prices, also good for many major purchases, just wish they would occasionally put , put more consumables on sale , ie sale tables, discounts etc.”
“Visited this store a month ago with my grandma and her sister. Jada, Jenni, and Danielle made our fashionista shopping experience so fun and awesome! Thank you ??”
“This is a brief review because I am a frequent visitor because this location and the people who work here are so amazing that my purchases alone support the cause - smiling! The customer service is great. The store is also clean, well-stocked, and well-lighted, so you can see everywhere without reading glasses. The employees walk the aisles and offer help if you need it. If you don't, they keep restocking or cleaning, and they are friendly. The savings on gas prices are enough to get back our money we pay annually. The people who come here to get gas are so darn courteous even during the gas shortages. One time, a gentleman saved me after wasps flew out of my gas cap area and stung me when I opened it to pump gas.Anyway, great store, great gas prices, wonderful neighbors. Come out and see their smiles and catch a sale on brand-name shoes and clothes.”
“It was honestly a bittersweet visit to MacArthur Center in downtown Norfolk. I went there with my wife, my son, and one of my close friends, thinking we would just spend a casual afternoon walking around, grabbing a bite, and letting my son enjoy the open space. Instead, it turned into a moment of reflection, knowing this place may soon close its doors.
This mall has always had a beautiful layout — wide walkways, bright open spaces, and a calm atmosphere that makes it easy to enjoy without feeling crowded. Even now, with fewer stores than before, the remaining shops are solid and well-maintained. There’s still quality here. My wife enjoyed browsing through the stores that are left, my son loved walking around and exploring, and my friend and I couldn’t help but talk about how much potential this place still has.
It’s honestly sad to think it’s shutting down. You walk through and can still see how much life it once had — and how much it could still have. With the right vision and effort, this could thrive again. Downtown Norfolk deserves a vibrant mall like this, a central place for families and friends to gather.
I truly wish the city would reinvest time and energy into it. Done right, this place could generate so much value and bring energy back to the heart of downtown. It feels like the end of an era — and it didn’t have to be.”
“I am not a big mall person. Being able to go from store to store, walking outside, is great. My only issue was the food area. The stores were all kept well. Staff in the stores were friendly. No one was rude. Customers were all smiles. A decent experience.”
