“My wife and I were blown away by the quality and variety of pieces at Shockoe Bottom Clay. We regularly attend art fairs in Los Angeles and Philly, and the work at this store exceeded what we usually see elsewhere. I was so impressed by the variety of styles that they showcase; you can find something for someone who loves modern clean lines, for someone who collects nature-inspired work, or for someone who’s drawn to more fantastical designs. There were also a range of price points, so you can walk out with a small gift or a big investment. We bought a fragile little statue that we needed shipped to our home in LA, and the store packed it with such care that it arrived unbroken!”

“So far in my city adventures, this seems to be THE thrift spot in the city, and for a good reason. It's queer, it's got a bunch of vintage technology, there's constant cycles of pretty much any style of clothing the heart wants, and they're shockingly affordable. Every time I walk in they have pretty much a whole new shop's worth of things to add onto your person. My only minor issue is that they don't typically have pants above a 40 waist size, but you win some you lose some. This is a gorgeous thift with a number of different art pieces that I've deeply considered acquiring. Easily my best thrifting experience in RVA city to date.”

“This center hosts great activities and events that we enjoy, but my last two visits have been to explore (and steward) the vast trail system. Horse Creek is BEAUTIFUL (look up the Bluey song 'Creek is Beautiful' 🤭) through here with work done over the past couple years to reduce erosion, and increase native plants species. It's a beautiful space for a hike or biking and a popular destination for local mountain bikers. I've traversed on foot and look forward to returning on my bike.”

“Gallery5 is a gorgeous, character-filled historic firehouse, and it’s the perfect backdrop for community learning. I took a beginner’s hand-sewing and textile repair class there with Megan, and she was fantastic. She created a warm, patient, and low-stress environment that felt very safe for beginners. We learned practical, everyday skills like sewing on buttons, repairing tears, and patching holes, all while chatting about the sustainability of mending our own clothes in a world of overconsumption. She provided all the tools, making it a perfectly pleasant morning of learning. I’m so grateful Richmond has spaces like this that foster genuine, unique community engagement. Highly recommend keeping an eye on their event calendar!”

We were greeted by Mike, who was incredibly kind and helpful, he even helped us find this beautiful cover up top that my girlfriend absolutely loves. Beyond the clothing, the gallery itself is stunning. All of the paintings are so vivid and beautiful, and it’s amazing to know they are hand painted by the owner himself. If you’re on Cary Street, this is a must visit spot for unique art and great service!”
