572 Rappahannock Dr, White StoneA true surprise in this little town that delivered so much excellence that we ordered takeout from there the next night too after dining in. Let's go over the details: the soups: a celery root and turnip (I think) and a carrot/ginger, were each a cloud-like velvet with a touch of sweet that comes from a certain correct treatment of vegetables. I felt like I was eating a combo first course/dessert. That alone wins in our book. The salad was crispy, hearty and balanced. There's a burger on this menu that they should never remove. Let's talk about burgers for a sec: they're on menus as safety items or as featured items and yet most are subpar in execution and construction even when we pay north of $20 for one. No one knows exactly what alchemy makes it from good to amazing but we know it instantly when we eat it. The chef says ADRIFT's burger is his tribute to In-N-Out, to me it has taste profile of a Big Mac if joined MENSA and was curing cancer. Really, quality ingredients and superior execution. I mean, it was unanimously decided it was super, super good. We ordered 3 for takeout the next night, and even after getting them home they still held their taste and deliciousness. Success is also in the small things. Fries that taste qualitatively better when the oil is optimal and leftovers reheat well. Eating the remainder of the tempura shrimp wraps the next day and enjoying them just as much. Cocktails that are innovative and balanced. Dessert that made us all grab our spoons even though we swore we had no room. I didn't know I needed Hot Milk Cake in my life until I had one. There is more but I think you get the point. It's too bad ADRIFT cannot float on up to the suburbs of Philly: we'd be regulars.
