Okay, El Buen Gusto you surprised me! 😂
This was technically my second time stopping in, but today was my first time actually trying the food, and I am so glad I did. I was hungry, it was 10:00 in the morning, and I decided to take a chance and stop in. First thing I noticed was the menu, and then I saw the ICE CREAM! 😩😂 I had to remind myself, “Rene’, you are trying to behave!” That ice cream selection was definitely calling my name and took me straight back to childhood.
But I stayed focused and went for the tacos. Let me tell you $2 tacos?! That's some seriously reasonable pricing.
They had several meat options, including chicken, pork and steak, and what really surprised me was that they were all the same price. Then came the big question: did I want them the traditional Mexican way with cilantro and onions, or the American-style toppings?
My answer: BOTH! 😂
So I tried them with the cilantro and onions AND added the cheese, sour cream and other toppings. The tacos were delicious, flavorful and wonderfully seasoned. That seasoning really stood out to me. You could tell there was some real flavor going on, not just meat sitting in a tortilla.The customer service, Wonderful.
I ask A LOT of questions when I'm somewhere for the first time, and the young lady helping me was patient, friendly and more than willing to explain everything. When I noticed my total was higher than simply multiplying the $2 tacos, she explained the additional charge, including the credit-card fee. I appreciated her taking the time to explain it rather than making me feel like I was bothering her.
That's good customer service.
I also loved the overall atmosphere. It's casual and welcoming, and there is plenty on the menu that I still need to try. Between the tacos, ice cream, and everything else I saw, I definitely haven't experienced the whole place yet.
So I'm giving El Buen Gusto 4 out of 5 stars. Why not 5 yet? Simple, I haven't tried enough of the menu to give them that final star. Based on my first real food experience, I WILL be returning. If you're looking for flavorful tacos, reasonable prices, friendly service and a place where you can get a quick bite without spending a fortune, I'd definitely say give El Buen Gusto a try.
And yes, next time I might have to investigate that ice cream. El Buen Gusto, you definitely made a good first impression! And honestly, “I WILL be returning” is probably the strongest part of the review because that's the real test. You didn't just like it, you already know you're going back.
