Lake Louie Brewing and Wisconsin Brewing Company
1079 American Way, VeronaMy partner and I have been to Wisconsin Brewing Company a few times now, and it's become one of our favorite low-key weekend stops. It's the perfect place to spend a relaxed afternoon -- good beer, friendly staff, and a laid-back vibe that's never too crowded. The space itself is great -- high ceilings, big windows that let in tons of natural light, and a nice open layout. The outdoor patio overlooking the pond is especially beautiful when the weather's nice. It's also dog-friendly, which we love! Our pup is always happy to come along, and we even picked up one of their dog toys from the merch area -- easily her new favorite. They've got some fun merch for humans too. The beer selection is solid, with something for everyone. We've really enjoyed the Lil Louie Lager and Badger Club Amber, and they always have a few rotating taps that keep things interesting. The staff has been consistently friendly and welcoming every time we've visited. If there's one area for improvement, it's the atmosphere. The space itself is awesome, but it sometimes feels like it's missing a little energy I'd love to see more events, live music, or themed nights to bring the place to life. It has so much potential to be a real community hub. Overall, Wisconsin Brewing Company is absolutely worth checking out great beer, great staff, and a beautiful, dog-friendly spot to unwind. With just a little more happening in the space, it could easily be a five-star destination.

Rising Sons (Verona)
600 West Verona Avenue, VeronaWe were staying in Verona so my daughter could take an ACT test, and Rising Sons was near our hotel. We were excited to try it, being fans of Laotian and Thai cuisine. There wasn't any way to eat in the establishment, though it seems like they have the capacity and nice decor for it, so hopefully that's coming/returning in the future. Even though we had to carry it back to the hotel room, we were thrilled with our order! We shared a kalapao as an appetizer. I tried a chicken curry and my daughter had pad kapao. We wanted to try the kao sankaya.The person who took our order was concerned that we might not enjoy it and advised choosing from other (perhaps more universally familiar) desserts. But we were undeterred! So glad we chose it, because we absolutely loved it! It might have been the best part of the meal. It is like a soft, warm sweet egg custard over a sticky sweet coconut rice. The textures and flavors were exquisite! Have to say, we liked this place enough to order again the following day. We were willing to drive the food all the way back home with us, just to enjoy it again. That day, we ordered a tom yum noodle soup, and a ground beef laab. The portions were large enough for each of us to have a whole meal left over. The aromas and seasonings - amazing! The meal stayed hot the whole way home. The sweet, natural tropical juices that we also purchased at Rising Sons were a perfect complement. And of course, we went ahead and devoured another lovely dessert of kao sankaya ;)
