412 20th Avenue, TuscaloosaFantastic location. It really feels like 3 separate venues blended together in a way that manages to work. The front of house has a great atmosphere with comfortable seating, a windowfront relaxation area that feels like a small town hangout spot, and a small single-side bar counter with taps. When we arrived a group of about 12 women were spread out learning/playing mahjong at some of the tables and another couple of guys were enjoying a game of cards. It wasn't loud and it felt like a place I could really see people enjoying meeting up with friends or strangers to kill some time.
The backroom and the hallway transforms into a mini-arcade with a couple of MAME freeplay cabinets and the best pinball selection in this side of Alabama (Black Knight 2000 is a legendary table but I've yet to find a local venue with a Black Knight Sword of Rage table sadly) among other arcade amusements. Then in the back there's a small patio area where I believe pets and outside food are allowed so you can enjoy the weather and get around Loosa Brews' lack of a dedicated kitchen/food. The service is friendly and helpful and the drink selection has a lot of variety despite not serving spirits. I really have only a couple of critiques and they're very minor.
1. The MAME cabinets use a default fullset of roms, meaning that without using the search function, the list is cluttered with thousand and thousands of junk games and duplicate copies of various revisions and regional releases of games, which can feel very disorganized. Not enough to deduct any points.
2. The barstools in the arcade and hallway area aren't the most comfortable. They're older style rectangular-seat wooden four leg stools that will be fine for plenty of people but are a bit sharp if you have a larger frame or are overweight. Not great on the tailbone but not torture.
Overall this is a really fantastic spot if you need to meet someone, want to hang out and play pinball or games, or need a place to bring a date for a couple of drinks after grabbing some food to-go elsewhere. Awesome time. The kind of place I want to see be successful but also don't want to blow up too much because I value the smaller vibe and atmosphere compared to cramped bars and taphouses.

5901 Watermelon Road, TuscaloosaIts a nice park, but ppl ruin almost everything. If you are the only one there with your dog & someone else comes in with theirs, get up & make sure your dog behaves. Dogs are territorial & protective (thats good). But they don't know about sharing a space & you need to get up off your rear & assist your dog in letting the others come in, not sit back & watch them bark & lunge aggressively thru the fence, then get mad when the other person has to correct your dog. Learn dog behavior if you have one, or dont bring them in public. If u think its funny, keep them at home unsocialized at will. Public means share the space, learn cordial behavior & mannerisms- you & your dog. It was sick to try & get my 2 pups in & a person sit there & act aggressive, while mine have training & looked at me bc they knew better, obviously had more sense than the human bc when I asked to get your dog so we can come in & let them meet, so they dont argue over space, you thought it ws funny. No funny, not cute. Rant over.

I want to share my honest experience, because I have seen many negative comments that simply do not reflect the reality of the incredible work being done here.
Running an animal shelter is an enormous task. The staff spend their days caring for the animals, monitoring their health, helping them emotionally, cleaning, feeding, and trying to give every single dog and cat a chance for a better life. This is not an easy job — it is emotional, physical, and often heartbreaking. And yet, these people show up every day and give their absolute best.
Some people complain about a kennel not looking perfect or about messes in the cages. Before judging, one should truly understand what it means to care for so many animals at once. Anyone who has ever worked in a shelter or cared for a sick, scared, or abandoned animal knows how demanding it is. Instead of criticizing from the outside, people should appreciate the hard work — or even volunteer themselves to see the reality firsthand.
I personally have seen how much love, patience, and effort the staff put into these animals. They provide a safe place when humans have failed them. They comfort the ones who arrive scared, neglected, or abused. They shed tears when animals don’t make it, and they celebrate every adoption with genuine joy.
This shelter deserves respect, not complaints.
Thank you to every staff member and volunteer who gives these animals hope, comfort, and a second chance. You are doing truly meaningful and compassionate work. Five stars, without hesitation.
