“I rented an Arctic Oven hot tent and propane heater for an Anchorage to Thompson Pass ski/ sled trip and was so impressed with their customer service. My last-minute booking was accommodated and staff worked with me to find a tent that would best suit my trip and timing. I was so grateful for the early pick-up and drop-off flexibility too. “Great service and high quality gear! I brought in a Barney’s pack for adjustment and replacement of a clip that fell off and they replaced it and fitted the bag to me quickly and with no cost. They clearly cared about helping the customer and they’re a go to for packs and outdoor clothing and gear.”
“We just headed into Anchorage to find info on where to fish, and what to fish with. Blake, Charles and Tabatha went out of their way to help us pick out the best (reasonable) gear for our needs… Blake hooked us up with guides to contact for fly fishing and Halibut fishing. Having personal recommendations is the best way to feel confident hiring someone to teach you the ropes and show you where to go.
Charles found us the best gear and Blake helped tremendously with tackle. There are just way too many choice for a novice fisherman to pick the correct items on their own.
Tabatha made sure the rod and reel cases I chose fit the gear correctly, so I didn’t end up half way to Homer and not have the right stuff. Even her husband helped us with information and finding gear.

“I stopped at this store unexpectedly after our dinner. It’s almost winter time and I was in need for at least one big coat for daily use since I came to Alaska with only summer stuff.Both ladies who were working before closing time today went above and beyond with me! I was looking for a specific style that they didn’t have available in store and was trying things on. The girl was very helpful and knowledgeable even about how I shouldn’t get the white one if I live in the side of town where the snow could be a bit dirtier. I ended up getting my first winter coat with them and the lady at the counter wished me happy birthday and even said, welcome to Alaska. “I was about to walk out empty handed after looking around for good shoes for my plantar fasciitis. Jason stopped us and asked if there was anything in particular we were looking for. He found me a bunch of shoes to try on to help relieve my heel pain. We settled on a pair, and a week later, I’m still happy he stopped us.”
“This is for the rentals: We used a local company for part of our trip and REI for another. While the local company gave us damaged and leaky gear and had zero professionalism. REI had much better, newer, and reliable gear and were responsive and professional. The choice when we return to Alaska is easy and we will only rent from REI.”

“This Footlocker is conveniently located on the 1st floor of the 5th Ave Mall. Workers are always friendly and helpful. Clothing sales and shoe options rotate frequently. We are able to find our sizes more than half the time we visit. Recently, due to not having a size we needed for an exchange, we had to request a refund. Luckily, it was quick and easy.”

“Lids 5th Ave is bright and walkable. The young lady working when we stopped by was welcoming. We were given a detailed tour of each wall, and what Lids had to offer. They also have clear signage and mirrors that I thought was helpful. Lids customizes hats. I know that now, only because of how thorough their worker was. There are other sportswear and accessories to choose from, at most price points.”
