“Arizona’s No. 1 Best Resort Hotel in the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2023.
In the 1930s, painter Lon Megargee bought a plot of land in what is now Paradise Valley. The "Cowboy painter" built a small Spanish style home and studio from Adobe bricks and large wood beams. It was known as La Casa Hermosa.
In 1994, the beautiful Hermosa Inn resort opened and had been built around that original home studio, which is now the onsite restaurant, Lon's at the Hermosa and the bar, Lon's Last Drop. You'll find Lon's original Western artwork hanging throughout the bar, restaurant, and in the resort rooms.
The Hermosa Inn is a gorgeous property with only 34 rooms/casitas. It's a quiet, peaceful walk along the paths through the tunnels of bougainvillea and past relaxing water features. The rooms are spacious with warm Spanish details like large wood post beds and walk-in glass showers with sunlight streaming through the wood plantation shuttered windows.
We enjoyed our two night staycation and didn't leave the resort. We luxuriated by sleeping in, reading, swimming, and then eating and drinking onsite for each meal. Lon's restaurant is a local favorite for a charming night out and stunning instagram photos. They have gourmet offerings in the warmth of the original building or on the gorgeous patio under lights and umbrella like tree branches. (More on the restaurant in my next post).
We stayed in July so it was hot and quite empty. It was heaven. We only left the room for an early morning swim or to go to a meal. It was a great staycation for a couple just wanting to spend time together.”

“Stayed here for a night after flying into town. Nice area, golf courses nearby hide a little bit of the Phoenix sprawl.Check in was friendly. I had one of the basic rooms and it was fine. Felt a little dated…older, smallish tv without a guide, paper thin walls where the neighbors are only a step away, but the water pressure was good and wifi was 85mbps down and 12-14 up so work was doable. Comfortable beds, good towels, quiet as they are the whole neighborhood. I’d stay here again.”
“Giving 5 stars because it had great potential yet one of the biggest failures. Absolutely ecstatic for the people who started building and couldn’t finish. Trying to build a ritz Carlton with a ritz crackers budget”
