“This hardware store is pure vintage, so cool, so full of things, even the gum machines at the front are pure nostalgia. I was with the boyfriend in Coronado some weeks back and he needed to buy some items. They did not have what he was looking for but the customer service was outstanding, we spend a great time actually checking how well organize was everything and thinking how do they managed to know where everything goes. The signage in the facade is very nice, like everything in Coronado, colorful and retro.”
“I have had nothing but positive experiences at Ace Hardware Hillcrest! Every staff member is extremely helpful, the product selection is great, and there are always good deals and promotions. For someone who is totally new to home improvement, it's really hard to find a hardware store where staff treat you without condescension. I believe I've found that store in Ace Hillcrest.”
“I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. We moved to downtown SD a year or so ago and spent a *good amount* of the first 6 months in this store!
The location is fantastic. It's 5 blocks'ish from our condo, so it's perfect for us!
The staff is super friendly and helpful. They have anything and everything you need, even stuff you don't know you need (like Twizzlers at the front counter). Paint? Yes. Tools? Yes. Ladder? Yes - and we even bought a 6ft ladder and walked it home (it was a bit of a Keystone Cops moment crossing a couple of streets, but yeah we walked it home).
If they don't have what you want in stock, they'll get it from another location for you.
It's clean and the aisles aren't cluttered. And I feel the need to mention the staff, again. They are ALWAYS there if you need them and really good about not only finding stuff but answering questions on whatever project we were working on.
We'll definitely be back (hell, we've been known to go 3 times in one day - because there's usually something we forget no matter how prepared we think we are).

“Cool, old-school electrical shop. Popped in today, needing to make a quick test clamp for an automotive issue I'm troubleshooting. I didn't catch the gentleman's name that helped me, but he was able to find exactly what I was looking for in no time. Price was cheaper than if I had bought some ready-made chinesium set from an auto parts store or a Harbor Freight. Will certain be back the next time I need something.”

“I honestly don't know how they did it. Yesterday I realized that I didn't have enough packers to do a project. I contacted them after 4pm and told them my problem. They must have immediately placed the order and shipped it 2000 miles to my doorstep. It arrived at 7:44 am.NOBODY has this level of customer service...”

“Go here and no place else. Color matching paint in a spray can!! How great is that?!!. Tom is fantastic. My 68 Camaro was restored back in 1994. It had rally rims and I found a set of 14" rims in a junkyard to put back on. But the paint on the rims obviously didn't match my car. And the guy who painted my car somehow managed to not get the color correct and was a couple of shades gray lighter than blue. Teal Blue--1968. So i brought the car to Tom and after many trips back in the shop to add a drop of gold, red, or whatever color he needed to add; he got it done. He said he had never attempted to custom match on the spot, but I couldn't be happier. He nailed it. Thanks to Tom and Jeraulds for helping me.”
