“The Morris Graves Museum of Art is one of Eureka’s cultural treasures and a place that truly feels like the heart of the local art scene. From the moment you step up to the building, you can tell you are about to experience something special. The museum is housed in the beautifully restored historic Carnegie Library, and the architecture itself sets the tone with its elegant, classical style. It feels both historic and alive with creativity.
Inside, the museum offers a wonderful variety of experiences. There are seven galleries with rotating exhibits that highlight both local talent and artists from across the Pacific Northwest, alongside works by Morris Graves himself, one of the most influential artists to come from this region. His art, often focused on nature and mysticism, feels perfectly at home here on the North Coast, surrounded by forests, ocean, and wild landscapes. Each visit brings something different because of the rotating shows, so there is always something new to discover.
Beyond the galleries, the museum is also a community hub. The central rotunda hosts concerts, poetry readings, and performances that bring the space to life in a way that goes far beyond what most small-town art museums offer. There is also a sculpture garden and classrooms for art education, showing that this space is as much about nurturing the next generation of artists as it is about celebrating established ones.
The museum is welcoming and accessible, with affordable admission and even free entry on the first Saturday of every month. The staff and volunteers are warm and knowledgeable, adding to the sense that this is not just a museum but a gathering place for the community. Whether you are an art lover, a history buff, or just someone who wants to spend a quiet afternoon surrounded by creativity, the Morris Graves Museum is an inspiring place to be.
What stands out most is how much it reflects the spirit of Eureka and Humboldt County itself. It blends history, creativity, and community in a way that feels deeply rooted in place. Visiting here is a chance to connect with the artistic soul of the region, and it is absolutely worth the time for anyone living in or traveling through the North Coast.”
“Marble weekend 2024 was amazing to have happening again, I am grateful Topher is getting it going again, and it was a nice, quaint experience having Parton the event take place at the Wharfinger Building”
“Went to crafts fair. Only come for indoor events like flea and mineral. Beat up dirt parking lot with no handicap parking spaces by event hall. Muddy when it rains. Better parking lot across the street.”

“⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Perfect Stay – Highly Recommend
I had an amazing stay at this hotel. Everything was clean, comfortable, and very well-maintained. The staff were professional, friendly, and always ready to help with anything I needed.
The room was spacious and spotless, with a cozy bed and modern design. I especially appreciated the pool—it was clean, relaxing, and a great place to unwind after a long day. The laundry room was also super convenient and made my stay even more comfortable.
The location was great, and everything I needed was either at the hotel or just a short walk away. Overall, this was a five-star experience, and I’d definitely stay here again.”
“We enjoyed the Friday Night Street Fair nearby and loved the live band in the ballroom. Cocktails and dancing made for a really fun evening.
We originally booked through a third-party platform, and prior to arrival, my husband called to ask about the Moonraker room... the one Bill Murray had previously stayed in. The staff member told us we were all set and that she was holding it for us. At no point did she clarify that our reservation was actually for a different room type.
So it came as a surprise when we checked in and were not placed in the Moonraker room but rather a queen room with no TV. This was not the room we had been led to believe was waiting for us. Our travel companions received both email and text confirmations, but we didn’t receive anything. I called the night before check in just to verify, fully expecting we were confirmed for the Moonraker room based on that conversation.
After our stay, I spoke with the owner directly and truly appreciated how she listened and took the time to make things right. She kindly offered us a future stay in the Moonraker room at a discounted rate, which was incredibly generous and shows she values her guests.
One thing I’ve since learned is that booking through third-party platforms can sometimes lead to miscommunications like this. It also takes a significant cut from small local businesses. If you’re considering staying at this historic boutique hotel in Eureka, I highly recommend booking directly with the property. It helps avoid confusion and better supports the people behind the stay.
The staff was friendly and the location is fantastic, but a simple clarification during that first call would have gone a long way in managing expectations. That said, the owner’s follow-up left a lasting impression.”
