“As the author of The Grant Colson Thriller Series and SERA Archives Thriller Series, I always enjoy visiting standout bookstores while traveling, and Barnes & Noble in Manhattan Beach is a super nice location.

The store has a broad, open layout with lower shelving that lets you see across the space, giving it a welcoming and easy-to-navigate feel.

There’s a huge children’s area along with a very nice café space. One detail that stands out is the wraparound mural featuring well-known authors, which adds character and makes the interior feel more engaging.

The overall setup is clean and thoughtfully designed, making it a comfortable place to browse and spend time.

I also spent a few minutes in the romance section while writing The Maui Desire Romance Series, and it’s a well-organized area that fits nicely alongside the thriller shelves.

The staff has been friendly and helpful, and the surrounding shopping center is very well kept with plenty of parking, which makes visiting easy.

Overall, it’s a strong Barnes & Noble in Manhattan Beach with a great layout, inviting atmosphere, and a solid selection.”

Elsewhere that might warrant an eye roll but at The Ripped Bodice, you’re in romance heaven. There’s everything here from beautiful, classic Jane Austen editions with gilt-covered pages to the newest, hottest romances topping charts at all major media outlets. There’s great attention paid to LGBTQIA+ books, both those about those who are and by authors who are. There’s a cute event space, there are stickers and gift items for the special bibliophile in your life (or for you!), and there’s no high pressure sales here. Just fellow bibliophiles, there when you need them. Or to finally ring up your purchase that’s far more than you planned to spend. This isn’t a place you leave empty handed!”

“As a thriller and romance author, I always enjoy visiting bookstores, and the Del Amo Torrance Barnes & Noble is one of the more impressive locations I’ve seen.

This store has a beautiful two-story layout with a mezzanine design that makes the whole space feel like a bookstore mall. When you walk in, the café area with Starbucks-style seating is located to the lower right, making it a great place to sit with a drink while browsing.

One of the most striking features is the upper level with its open mezzanine and dual escalators connecting the floors. The layout provides a great view across the store. It makes exploring the different sections fun.

The selection is excellent. The thriller and mystery section is large, and the romance section is well stocked as well. There’s plenty of space to browse through many other categories throughout the store.

The staff has always been very friendly and helpful whenever I’ve visited, which makes the whole experience even better. Restrooms are also conveniently available, which is always appreciated in a big bookstore like this.

Overall it’s a fantastic Barnes & Noble location and a great place to spend time discovering new books.”

I just don’t like the smell here that mixes painting, and formaldehyde.
I know there are so many restaurants, cafes surrounded, but still thinking why there is not a coffee shop inside a book store? Why a book store can not be more spacious, and having a space to read? I just did quick browsing. I like the books. Each one is so unique. But I don’t feel comfy to stay.
I think I do have a higher expectation when comes to a book store.
Such a big city, just have sooooo many restaurants. But not even a huge book store?

“I was a chaperone at a high school. The event was the Women's Empowerment for young Black women. I like what the university had for the young girls. However, I was very disappointed with the food, and where the lunch was taking place. I understand it was raining that day, and we had a tent. Other than myself, I'm pretty sure others were cold inside the tent. I wish they had a heating vent or something. I did not mind the variety that they had, but I was very disappointed that the food they served was cold. The only thing that was hot was the tomato soup they offered. I had the chicken tenders and tater tots. Overall I enjoyed myself as much as the students did.”

“I recently visited New Life Christian Bookstore about two weeks ago while searching for a Bible for my wife. I had been looking online but couldn’t find anything that really stood out to me. When I searched for local options, I was surprised to find this bookstore less than a mile from my home, so I decided to stop by—and I’m so glad I did.
From the moment I walked in, the environment felt peaceful and welcoming. It’s a smaller bookstore, but honestly, that’s part of what makes it special. I’d much rather support a local business that serves the community than just order something online.
They had a great selection of Bibles, and I ended up choosing a beautiful purple one for my wife. What made it even more meaningful was the engraving—they were able to add her name to it. There is a small fee, which is completely expected, but the result was absolutely worth it. The engraving is done on Thursdays when Gloria is there, and she did an amazing job.
My wife absolutely loves her new Bible. Her previous one had been damaged, so this meant a lot to her—and to me. Seeing her joy every time we go to church now makes the experience even more special.
There’s something different about being able to walk into a place, hold the Bibles, flip through them, and truly connect with what you’re choosing, instead of just ordering online and hoping for the best.
