“I have had nothing but positive experiences at Ace Hardware Hillcrest! Every staff member is extremely helpful, the product selection is great, and there are always good deals and promotions. For someone who is totally new to home improvement, it's really hard to find a hardware store where staff treat you without condescension. I believe I've found that store in Ace Hillcrest.”

“I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. We moved to downtown SD a year or so ago and spent a *good amount* of the first 6 months in this store!
The location is fantastic. It's 5 blocks'ish from our condo, so it's perfect for us!
The staff is super friendly and helpful. They have anything and everything you need, even stuff you don't know you need (like Twizzlers at the front counter). Paint? Yes. Tools? Yes. Ladder? Yes - and we even bought a 6ft ladder and walked it home (it was a bit of a Keystone Cops moment crossing a couple of streets, but yeah we walked it home).
If they don't have what you want in stock, they'll get it from another location for you.
It's clean and the aisles aren't cluttered. And I feel the need to mention the staff, again. They are ALWAYS there if you need them and really good about not only finding stuff but answering questions on whatever project we were working on.
We'll definitely be back (hell, we've been known to go 3 times in one day - because there's usually something we forget no matter how prepared we think we are).

“Great specialty store!Edit: Now that I see the ownership here actually cares about what their customers think, I'll elaborate on my experience.I purchased one of the table top epoxies for a bar top project. The job was to remove the previous bar logo and replace it with the new bar logo and fill back with clear epoxy resin as seamlessly as possible. And I apologize for not remembering the exact product name, but it wasn't the deep pour table top epoxy - it was the other of the same brand...The product was top-notch and the customer service was even better! The lady and gentleman that helped me were kind, extremely helpful - and knowledgeable in their field of practice. Great job Rockler!”
“This place is great! I can't seem to schedule when my equipment decides to breakdown however Scott comes in clutch every time I need him to repair something! They are great with scheduled maintenance repairs and last minute breakdown issues.”

They must have immediately placed the order and shipped it 2000 miles to my doorstep. It arrived at 7:44 am.NOBODY has this level of customer service...”

Unlike the employees from the ace hardware in La Jolla where they rude and discriminated against me and my friend. I Definitely would come back to this location if need something and not the one in La Jolla location with all the ignorant and racist employees.”

“Friendly folks, has 95% of what I need and it takes me 2-3x less time to find it than a big box store. This translates into big savings. The only thing I wish they had was drywall sheets, they have pretty much everything else.It's also a true hardware store, whereas neither Lowe's nor HD have a hardware section they only stock common size screws and fasteners, and only US sizes.”

“We have used Dunn-Edwards paint for our past projects and they have been our go-to paint store. We recently went into the Kearny Mesa store select an exterior paint color to match our roof, existing trim, etc. (selecting a single color amongst a universe of colors is our kryptonite). We met with Freya Wilson who was sweet, professional, and most helpful. She helped us with a first round color candidates, which we we took home, and then we returned with to give here our feedback and we honed in on a color that works most excellently. So, two rounds and a color discovered, the process could not have gone more seamlessly. Thank you Freya.”

“In Mexico I would call it a hardware store but this one is out of the ordinary, it is a very nice and tidy store. Where you find everything from things to fix the house (plumbing, electricity, painting,...) to kitchen utensils. I love it.”
