“Who knew how much fun a huge, funny, colorful sock store could be? So many smiles and laughs throughout this impressive, well-organized, clean store. Be prepared to spend retail dollars, this is a perfect spot for gifts for yourself or others ($20 a pair is hard to stomach for regular socks). There is a sale section so I scored skme feeturs french bulldog Xmas socks for $10 in Feb (yay!). I'm so happy. Have fun!!!”
“First time shopping here and loved my experience! Alex was such a great help and very informative on helping me pick out the right Vibrams! Left the shop thrilled ☺️ Will come back for more pair of Vibrams! ?”

“Dedicated Hoka fan here … the expertise of the staff showed thru helping me to solve a growing issue with my left foot. I’m 3 weeks in, and the pain has gone away. Simple but a powerful recommendation for a different shoe size and insert. Yes, it cost more, but I can feel the long term benefit!”

“I bought my first Dr. Martens pair of shoes and can say I am a happy customer. Staff is really nice and supportive, the store in general has good vibes and you don’t being rushed to buy or to try the items.
I am one of those folks who takes their time and they respected it. Not a local but would definitely come back if I have a chance.”
“Had a great experience shopping for Alden boots thanks to a patient and knowledgeable sales associate. They walked me through different styles and explained the sizing differences. I never felt rushed, and their guidance helped me find the perfect fit. Excellent service all around!”
“I’m not one to leave reviews usually, but I had to leave one for this place. Ian (the employee) was wonderful and very thorough with helping me find the perfect shoe. He did whatever he could to find the best fit for my personal running habits and walking me through the different options, as well as letting me try jogging in each one. This includes getting the right insole for me. Definitely will be back!”
“Come here any time I’m in the neighborhood, great folks running and owning the place. Bought a few shirts and a mini backpack, love them all. Once I get my money up, I will come back for more. Support an authentic small business with great style!”
“Super wonderful experience shopping for some truly outstanding shoes today. Daniel was very helpful and attentive, bringing me lots of options and assisting with a return. I also appreciated manager Denny's input and assistance. I wish I could afford to shop here more than once every 5-10 years it really is a special experience!”
“This store is so dope. Definitely my favorite sneaker store in the country. Make sure you checkout their extensive sneaker collection. The staff is also amazing. The best staff I’ve ever worked with in a shoe store. Mateo approved.”

“I stopped by A.C.M.E. Workwear while I was up in the city. I usually shop at Redwood Trading Post since I live in Redwood City, but I’m really glad I checked this place out. It’s near Mission and Geneva, not a flashy area at all, but the store itself is solid and worth the stop.
For a smaller shop, the selection is really good. They have a lot of Carhartt, and not just the usual stuff. Pants, shirts, jackets, accessories, and most importantly, real size runs. I wear a 40x34 in work pants, which is usually hard to find, but they had it right there with no issue. That alone impressed me.
I went in planning to use my work stipend on new pants and ended up grabbing a pair of Carhartt B01s and a tee. One thing to note is that the prices are a little higher than online. The B01s were about $67 in the store, while you can find them online for closer to $59. The pair I bought had also been sitting in the sun for a while, so one side was noticeably more faded than the other. To be fair, the guy helping me, Kevin, noticed it right away and gave me a discount without me even asking, which I appreciated.
Kevin was great overall. Super friendly, helpful, and relaxed. No pressure, no upselling, just straight help getting what I actually needed. That kind of service goes a long way.
They’ve been around since 1972, and it shows. The place feels established and dependable. They carry a wide range of workwear brands and gear, from boots to hard hats and more, and even though you can’t order online, they do have a website.
I’d definitely come back, especially if I’m already in the city. If you’re looking for real workwear and good service, this place delivers, just keep in mind the prices can run a bit higher than online.”
“I'm currently in town for the week and traveling light, so adding another pair of shoes wasn't ideal. However, after visiting the Dr. Martens store on Haight and receiving exceptional customer service, I couldn't resist.
The sales associate (whose name, unfortunately, I didn't catch) was incredibly patient and knowledgeable. She not only helped me find the perfect pair of shoes but also provided valuable information on caring for them.
To top it off, she offered a convenient solution to my packing dilemma by setting up free delivery to my home in another state.
This positive experience has made me a loyal Dr. Martens customer. I now have new shoes that I love, thanks to the amazing staff at Dr. Martens. Thank you for making my shopping trip so enjoyable and hassle-free!”
“I called to check availability of a shoe today and Raj kindly picked up and answered all my questions! He held a very inviting tone and even told me details like recommended fit and the current promotions. I’ll definitely visit in store to try them on”

“Limited access (check their website for special access for seniors, AAA, etc). Good selection of outdoor sports clothing, tents, duffels, etc. They carry several brands in addition to Columbia. Very well kept up and clean.”
“I adore the oldtimers at Marelli Brothers Shoe Repairing [sic] in San Rafael. I occasionally called this 104 year-old business, which is still owned and operated by the family, and say, “Hey, can you do this random leather work thing for me?” And they say, “We don’t really do that.” And then I say, “Yeah, but will you?” And they say, “Sure, 10 bucks.”
It takes a while to place an order because every single one of them is deaf as shit and there is loud machinery going, and they are guaranteed to lose your item at some point in the process. What they lack in efficient streamlined soullessness, they make up for in inefficient, turbulent soulfulness. Quality work, unreasonably low cost, and character to boot. Keep this place alive as a favor to me, pls and thanks.
12/10, would recommend a friend
One or two of the guys just retired so if you talk them out of their stated policy of not accepting random projects like mine, expect delays. And celebrate them. Because these folks are doing god’s work out here and are the real deal.
I have no idea how they survive in Marin. A lady who’s appearance I will decline to describe because I don’t want to be misinterpreted as misogynistic (but I will describe her as well-monied and disrespectful of the working class that keeps her lifestyle comfortable) came in, was very snipey, and could hardly believe that her purse wasn’t ready yet. Take a chill pill, lady, you could no doubt pay a year or three’s worth of my rent if you sold all your other perfectly serviceable purses on the secondhand market.”

“SKECHERS Warehouse Outlet always surprises with great deals on comfortable, reliable footwear. The variety is huge—running shoes, work shoes, casual slip-ons, and more. The staff is attentive and quick to help with sizing. It’s an easy, stress-free shopping experience with plenty of budget-friendly options for the whole family.”
“Waited YEARS for this, and now 1827 Powell St is finally open again! Dropped by and asked the staff if I could snap photos of the place and they were cool with it. Ze wife picked up a Fragment tote and ze friend copped a pair of green Air Force 1s. A must visit when you're in the area!”
