Pet Stores & Supplies

PetSmart
12341 Seal Beach Blvd, Seal BeachI go to PetSmarts and Petcos all over Southern California every so often to buy food for my dog. Each time I'm amazed at how similar and average every single one of these stores are: not great, not bad, just whatever. Until I went to this PetSmart which was the nicest pet store I've ever seen. Why? How?

Pet-Friendly Restaurants

Jane's Corndogs
907 Ocean Ave, Seal BeachThis place sells corn dogs, if you didn't guess. Very tasty corn dogs, probably the best one I've ever had. They are $5. I wasn't even mad about it. They also have fries and some other options, but the corn dog is the star.
There is no seating inside, only a few benches nearby. Or you could walk out on the pier across the street and find a spot.

Seal Beach Animal Care Center
1700 Adolfo Lopez Dr, Seal BeachThe shelter is clean and staffed with passionate and dedicated volunteers. The adoption form is long but given the amount of care and time a furry friend takes during their lifetime, not unwarranted. This is my second adoption from SBACC, the first kitty, Chloe, was adopted in 2003 and passed at the end of 2020. Our new kitten, Jaeger, is a charmer and we are so pleased to have found him! SBACC was upfront about the health needs of all of the kittens we considered, something we greatly appreciated. All of the adoptable animals have been sprayed or neutered, which is wonderful.
Yes, the staff can appear to be reluctant to allow an adoption but given the amount of 'found' animals that end up back at SBACC as older lost, returned, or abandoned pets, their adoption review process is necessary. While we were considering which kitten to adopt, there were three older cats that had started at SBACC and come back years later due to 'circumstances'. Poor kitties. Pets are a lifetime commitment, their lifetime.
The only thing I would like to see is for the foster animals to stay in home environments as long as possible. The shelter is safe, the animals are well taken care of, but it's not a home.
