“Wonderful place with lots of character, spirit, and detail!! We absolutely loved it (a mom, an elder and a youth traveling to UCSB). The proprietress, Mei, is a spirited Taiwanese auntie who seems to do most of the work (and landscaping) herself. She serves tea in the lobby and often gives little treats, if she has them. The value is exceptional. The tubs are wonderful. Large refrigerator. Wifi worked good. The rooms are comfortable. There is a beautiful park and beach in easy walking distance. You have to cross a freeway on-ramp to get there (btw being so close to the 101 freeway is super convenient if you need to get places fast, as we did) so if you have frail elders or disabled people or small children walking on their own, it might be better to drive down. But there is good visibility, so it is pretty safe. The park has play equipment and bbq pits and the beach is beautiful. There is a small trail or an easy pathway leading down to it, and both are great. Swimming is not recommended (offshore oil drilling is a major feature of life in this area, unfortunately, and spills have been too common), but walking the beach, searching for driftwood treasures (there are tons of driftwood), watching birds, etc. is awesome. There are also lots of nearby antique stores and a great burger shop in walking distance, that has veggie options and a good fish sandwich and really good fries. We came in spring, when everything was starting to bloom, including Mei’s garden. Absolutely lovely! This place is certainly not for everyone. It is clean but not 100% spotless. Which I prefer, because I think it adds to the character, and makes it feel more homey. Plus the chemicals used to make places spotless, I would rather do without. So if you need spotless, by all means pay $300 a night for that in the other Santa Barbara hotels. Same goes if you do not appreciate homey artistry and detail, expect perfect everything to military/corporate standards, or have an aversion to strong Asian women. I have a Ray Charles song for you. :)For the creative souls who will love this little treasure of a spot, and the artistry of an innkeeper who puts heart and soul into her work, I’m with you. The writers, the traveling artists and thinkers, the bohemian intellectuals, the little families, the healers and people seeking peace for the heart, this is where you want to go. Just don’t crowd me out - I need to come back!”

“TLDR: HIGHLY RECOMMEND -value & locationBooked this spot last minute for nye. We were lucky to get it too because it reached no vacancy by the time we arrived in the afternoon before our check-in time. This place was a true gem. It was exceptionally clean for a boutique style motel and had all the amenities of AC/heater, fully stocked kitchen with microwave and mini fridge. I'm very particular with having a clean and sanitary bathroom and they did not let me down. All the towels were clean, neatly folded, and they had a lot available without you having to call for room service to get extras. The tub was optic white, no stains or grime. The bathroom had a mini window that offered a lot of sunlight, privacy, and ventilation to dry out the vapor when you shower. There was a coffee maker and large flat screen tv that we didn't use, but appreciated. The major bonus was free breakfast from 7am-11:30am. Croissants, danishes, apples, bananas, oranges, frozen burritos and frozen egg, cheese, sausage croissants, boiled eggs, oatmeal, tea, creamer, oj and coffee were all provided in the leasing office. You could choose to eat your breakfast there, on the outdoor deck, the center community lawn outside, or in your room.I have to say that everything was so smooth from checking in to checking out. It was an extremely relaxing trip and nye experience. Oh and I forgot to mention that parking was so easy. The spots are unreserved, but you'll usually get your spot right outside your door so it's ridiculously convenient, especially those who are handicapped or have trouble with walking long distances. Staff was friendly and I honestly have nothing bad to say about this gem. We will most definitely be making frequent trips back here to ensure a seamless and comfortable stay in SB.”

“We had brunch at this beautiful location. The view is incredible and the service is the best. The food was absolutely above, par and fabulous. A little expensive but worth it.”

“We stayed at the Harbor House Inn based on the strong online reviews for the property. It exceeded our expectations in every possible way: the location is walkable and convenient, the property is very clean and nicely appointed, and the owners are incredibly friendly and welcoming. We parked for free on the property and received a complimentary upgrade to Unit 2A, which is a suite and larger than the unit we originally reserved. The woman who checked us in --- perhaps the owners' daughter? --- was warm, knowledgeable, and very kind. Our suite, while not fancy, was exceptionally comfortable and decently appointed. It included a very comfy king-size bed with high-end pillows, a kitchenette with a mini fridge, a large bathroom with a therapeutic tub, a TV with cable and Netflix, and a small, narrow patio with a little table and chairs. The bathroom included a walk-in shower, a private commode room, robes, disposable flip-flops, bath gel, lotions, a blow dryer, and a large sink.Check-in time is 4 p.m. and check-out time is 11 a.m., with a late, 1 p.m. check-out available for an additional $35. Limited free parking is available on the property for standard-size vehicles. Ample street parking is available nearby for those who have larger vehicles or who arrive too late to secure a spot on the property. ("No parking tantrums, please.")Could the TV be larger and the remote control easier to use? Sure, but it's tough to find much to pick on here. They run an exceptional operation and create a welcoming, comfortable guest experience. We truly enjoyed our stay at Harbor House Inn and look forward to returning soon!”

“Love it here! My fiancé and I recently stayed at El Encanto for New Years Eve and got engaged during our stay. The team at El Encanto ensured that we had the most beautiful proposal ever and set a romantic picnic setup by the serene Lily Pond with gorgeous florals and champagne. After the proposal, we had a family dinner at the PDR in the main restaurant and it was an incredible multi-course meal. Every dish was amazing and they catered to all dietary preferences- highlights were the chestnut soup, hamachi crudo and the chocolate ball dessert at the end of the dinner ?.The service was also impeccable during our entire stay from the valet, to the bellman, front desk, and restaurant team! And last but not least, our room was a gorgeous bungalow suite that resembled a fairy tale cottage- it was so lovely and had incredible amenities like a fireplace and heated bathroom floors. The grounds are so peaceful as well, with unparalleled views of the ocean, mountains and Santa Barbara. ?We both absolutely love El Encanto and will always treasure this special place. We cannot wait to go back! ”

“The Eagle Inn is well situated--close to the beach, the Funk Zone, and easily walkable to State Street. We booked a king room with a fireplace and jacuzzi. The room was clean, comfortable and spacious. The full breakfast that came with the room was delicious--a series of rotating options that are made to order. The staff was friendly and helpful. We would stay here again.”

“Just completed a 3 night stay in the Simpson house. Well deserved 4 star, should be considered for 5 star. Included are outstanding breakfasts, afternoon scones, etc., and wonderful hors d'oeuvres, cookies, and wines during the cocktail hour. Outstanding staff. 1 block away from State Street and easy 2 mi. Walk to the pier. Will stay there next trip ! Many thanks !”

“Had a fantastic stay here, this hotel deserves more than 3 stars, it’s a boutique hotel with great decor, view, comfy bed, service! Personally think it’s worth the higher price to get a room with a view, the ocean view from the balcony is amazing for sunset or enjoying breakfast. Sadly their restaurant isn’t great (have a separate review just for it), otherwise ordering room service and enjoy on the balcony would be a perfect start or end of a day. On the other hand, some rooms without ocean view faces the parking lot, with second level direct above garages, could be noisy during busy hours.Rooms: Tastefully decorated with comfortable bed and huge bathroom.Walkability: Across the street from ocean & beach. 10 min.s drive to shops on State Street.”

“This is a very nice hotel in a very safe part of town, and it’s very close to the downtown area. My only complaint is that some of our bath towels had stains on them and our a/c didn’t work too well. The room was very clean and comfortable otherwise!”

“This little gem was a pleasure to enjoy. Simple rooms, comfortable beds and very clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the courtyard pit . The Porto's guava and cheese pastries for breakfast were a delightful surprise. We would definitely stay here again.”

“No real ameneties (restaurant/bar), location is beautiful but a walk to town. Had an in room massage (which is contracted out and a little awkward setting up) and the entire time the crew was using a leaf blower outside my room. Understand grounds work have to happen, but as one of the only occupied rooms that day it was bummer. Also booked with a late checkout request and was denied the morning of checkout. When booking, dont forget the resort fees/tourism and local taxes that end up being 100.00 extra per night. There are more affordable, updated places to stay in town.”

“It was such a quaint little place. Everything was so for a nice quiet and peaceful setting. The cottage was just what I thought it would be.Rooms: As a Goldielocks vacationer, I am inclined to say that it was just rightWalkability: The neighborhood has a great feel to it. The surrounding gardens are very nice.”

“Lovely spot! Ambiance and decor was amazing! The rooms were roomy and nice. The pool area was so cute and welcoming. The little extras were nice too. They had coffee, tea and treats in the lobby as well as providing 2 complimentary drinks at check in. Staff was pleasant. The location is also great. You can walk to the beach, wharf, pier or State street where there's restaurants and shopping. Loved this little gateway!”

“A good option for comfortable budget-friendly accommodations in Santa Barbara a few blocks inland from the beach/harbor. The hotel offers breakfast and bike rentals (!) included in the price, which is why we chose it. Pool and hot tub too. Friendly and helpful employees. Variety of breakfast options as well as happy hour snacks and beverages. A really nice aspect of the property is its landscaping, with lots of trees and other greenery around the inner courtyard. The room itself was comfortable although could use some cosmetic work (some worn paint and furniture finish) but it's fine. Room, bathroom, and kitchenette were all clean. We would definitely stay there again.”

“Booked a last minute trip to Santa Barbara on Jan 14 and we wanted to take our dog with us. I decided to use my points to cover the stay and pet fee was only $20. Location was perfect not too far from Santa Barbara, complimentary breakfast, coffee and tea in the lounge, but the best part was the free Tesla charging. We informed them ahead of time we were bringing a pet and they gave us a room close to the side entrance so taking our dog out to potty was super convenient. Room was a little outdated but good for what we needed.”

“Immaculate room, friendly and helpful staff, perfect location. This is my new happy place. I grew up in Santa Barbara and live off-grid now, but I need a little civilization now and then. The Franciscan Inn delivers all this and then some. They have been upgrading the facilities so there has been construction activity, but it has still been quiet and clean. I look forward to my next stay.”

“I wish I could give 5 stars because the people who work here are so sweet and they provide breakfast and cheese/cracker wine afternoon events daily. The problem is their queen bed room looks nothing like the pictures on their marketing. When I was booking the room, I was charmed by the cute wall paper and beach hotel look of the rooms. If I had known now that I needed to pay more for that, I would have happily paid more because what I got looked like the room from the horror movie, " The Exorcist." There was no color but yellowish white looking walls and the same sick looking white drapes to match. The painting above the bed looked like something from a garage sale of a very elderly person with poor taste. The heating system was so old that it had TAPE on it and it was so loud that it was impossible to sleep, ( a cricket outside) completed the torturous noise. The cute lavender satchel and champagne bottle normally would have been really charming but in a room that looks haunted, old and cheap, these things didn't help. I honestly felt duped. It was so different from the charming and modern feeling of the office that seeing my room was a real letdown and depressing. The only nice thing about the room was that the water pressure in the shower was strong. I suspect the bathroom was the only thing updated in that room. I saw other rooms and they were more charming and looked like the pictures on their website. I suspect that I was given a room that wasn't updated. The second night, I saw ants walking on the bathroom floor which wasn't swept when we arrived so maybe the ants found food. When I noticed that an ant was running around on my foot after my shower and then another ant on my cellphone that I decided to call the office and complain. At that point, it seemed that I was covered in ants. Luckily, the lady who answered the phone was kind enough to find me a new room upstairs. She explained that the rain and flooding outside was causing the ants to run inside the room.We packed our things and went upstairs to a King bedroom and it was so different looking that it felt like we went to a different hotel. So make sure you never book a queen bed here! If I come back, I will always make sure to only get a King bed room or double queen. Also, bring your own pillows as their pillows feel like bags stuffed loosely with trash and will provide your head and neck no support at all. The bed itself is very comfortable (Beauty Sleep Simmons with a nice cushy pad). The hotel is close to everything and we were able to walk to nice seafood restaurants or drive to Whole Foods/ Trader Joe's, The King bed room also had a nicer updated heating system although still very noisy but the upstairs room was warmer so we didn't have to turn the heater on.If you come here, make sure to bring your pillow and don't get the queen bed room! The breakfast is perfect if you want to be healthy as they have oatmeal, organic boiled eggs, melon, and oat bran. They also have pastries and small quiches (very salty). They always have coffee and tea so it's a nice plus. In the afternoon, they had hot cider for the holidays. The afternoon wine is very nice too. They had two kinds of cheeses, tasty crackers, olives, and sun-dried tomatoes instead of fruit. They also had chocolate chip cookies in the afternoon.”

“Sweet, family feel to this waterfront inn in the heart of Santa Barbara. Walking distance to pier, waterfront, shops and good. We spent three nights here and enjoyed a lively continental breakfast every morning, wine, cheese, crackers and grapes for an evening happy hour. We also got bike rentals with our stay and had a great time exploring the waterfront on bikes. The property was gorgeous, facilities clean and the staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Five stars for Melissa and Teresa for their special hospitality!”

“I booked Motel 6 in Santa Barbara because the hotel where my conference was had no availability. This location is perfect for walking to the beach, dining and getting over to the conference center where the event was held. I felt safe and comfortable coming and going any time of the day. The rooms were well equipped although you could hear everything nextdoor. My room was not facing the beach, but that was ok because I did get to face the mountains.I really didn't need to interact with anyone. It was a short Uber drive from the airport and a quick check in process in their small office. They had a vending machine that I did use once and my DoorDash driver had no issue finding my room for my delivery.I learned that this Motel 6 is the original Motel 6 built in the 1960's - it was only $6 a night back then! I paid near $200 per night in September which seemed fair for that area. I would definitely stay here in the future when I am visiting for work.Rooms: Small, but has everything you need. Cute retro look.Nearby activities: Beach, bicycling, outdoor fitness, baseball fields, spa, pier.Safety: I felt safe walking any time of the day. There were several homeless people nearby, but no one bothered me at all.Walkability: Several things in the area to walk to and experience. Beaches, museums, restaurants, fitness, spa, and entertainment.”

“I had a really amazing stay at Hotel Santa Barbara during New Year's Eve weekend. Easy booking, and pet friendly! Front desk was very kind and I'd also like to add that this hotel accepts debit cards for bookings. For those of you who can't use a credit card. That's a huge deal because most hotels do require credit cards to book. Everything was so hassle free and I appreciate that! The hotel itself is beautifully decorated, medium sized and eloquent. Only 2 floors, and the room was clean with a well stocked mini bar/fridge! AC in the room to control the temperature was great also. It's right in the middle of everything, I think it's a perfect place to stay if you're visiting Santa Barbara.”

“Great location! Just 1 block from the beach. It's a nice change from staying at a hotel. Basic, but clean and comfortable. There's also a great little market nearby which helped us save some money on food and was convenient for stocking up on supplies for the beach.”

“We spent two nights in the Presidio and loved it. The rooms are spacious and very clean. I loved the high ceiling and the bathroom was good too. The gentleman on reception was very cheery and welcoming. We were able to get ice from reception. Personally I loved the decking area which was great for a spot of reading or sunbathing.Location wise it's a fair walk into town but an interesting one. If you walk in the opposite direction there's a grocery outlet and Pasta Pronto. Santa Barbara is wonderful to explore, especially the bird sanctuary. It was a great place to stay.”

“The Waterman was one of the newer Marriott spots here in the Santa Barbara area. I was finally able to stay here because the prices dipped down a little bit. It's in a very cool funk zone area. The rooms are very cozy and eventually they will become part of the Moxy brand under Marriott. It's a very cool spot. I'm not sure what it used to be in the past. Maybe a warehouse like most of the other establishments around here? The front staff was very accommodating hospitable. There's a general kitchen area that was communal and fun where you could buy drinks and snacks. The rooms are not the biggest here. I was in a room that had a Murphy bed come out above on top. I was very tempted to unlock it, but it look like it would be really tough for me to push back into the wall. There's a lot of character here and a cool place to visit if this is your vibe. Not sure if I would come back again since I like larger spaces, but if you want to stay in the Funk Zone this is where to go.Had a great view of the pool and a lot of cool things were in walking distance so were able to explore parts of Santa Barbara that I hadn't the time to walk-through in the past.”

“One of my very favorite places to stay in Santa Barbara for sure! The rooms are so nice & clean. The staff goes above & beyond! The pool & jacuzzi are amazing! The gardens are beautiful and smell good as you walk through. The weddings & events look lovely! I've even crashed a few accidentally outside by the bonfires overlooking the spectacular view of East Beach at sunset. This is one fine resort!”
