“The kindness, patience and the professionalism of the staff at Hopmeadow Animal Hospital always amazes me. Especially because they have such a relentlessly stressful job. I have been going to Hopmeadow with my pets for 40 years. Over the years it has been so wonderful to work with such great staff and I have always had positive experiences with my dogs and cats. On my recent visit, with a very challenging ( formerly feral) cat my boyfriend and I were awed by the patience, kindness and professionalism that the staff showed in treating Izzy. Sally , the cat whisperer , Chrissy , Kat and Dr. Michelle Fiorella were truly amazing and so knowledgeable about the best and kindest way to deal with a stressed cat. What we thought would be a disaster ended up being a moving experience for us where Izzy was able to be checked over and we were able to see Sally , Chrissy, Cat, and the Doctor Fiorella in action - they were all so incredibly kind , patient and knowledgeable. I am grateful that they are always there for my pets . The staff are all hard working , dedicated to animals and take the time to be supportive and patient. So although going to the vet can be a very stressful experience especially when your pets are ill. I feel like I am in the best hands possible when at Hopmeadow. I also like the conservative approach they take . They don't rush to treatment they are judicious in their approach to treatment. Anyway, I do recommend the practice and am happy that they are there to care for pets. So thanks to all the staff I hope they understand how important their role is to so many Pet Parents and how their dedication to the animals is appreciated.”

“We cannot say enough wonderful things about the care our senior dog Grover received at Animal General, especially from Dr. Haley Guhn-Knight. Dr. Haley was compassionate, knowledgeable, and truly listened to all of our concerns. She always took the time to explain everything in a way we could understand and made sure we felt informed every step of the way. I have honestly never met a veterinarian more invested in their patient. Even during her personal time, she would respond to emails and send us studies and information regarding the infectious disease that unfortunately took Grover’s life. She also went above and beyond to make Grover comfortable during his exams — getting down on the floor with him, laying out yoga mats and blankets, and treating him with so much kindness and dignity. Although we ultimately had to say goodbye to Grover, we are so grateful for everything Dr. Haley did for him and for our family during such a difficult time. Thank you, Dr. Haley, for everything you did for Grover. We will never forget it”

“I was desperate to find a feral friendly vet hospital that would do an emergency dental on my feral cat, Jiffy. With his tongue sticking out and ropes of drool dangling, I knew Jiffy needed help. With the 7 day/week hours, I was able to bring Jiffy in when I could capture him. Dr. Ali made a quick and thorough assessment. And he performed the emergency surgery on a weekend, we got Jiffy back on Sunday. I feel so fortunate to have found this practice. Special bonus- Vet for Pets will be opening a satellite office in Hamden next month. Then, they will only be blocks away from me. Dr. Ali and his staff are amazing, caring professionals. AND THEY ARE NOT AFRAID OF FERAL CATS! I can not recommend this practice enough.”

Waiting area is long and can easily handle multiple animals. They mail out reminders when your pet is due for vaccinations and/or other routine appointments. You can schedule medications to be received by mail. I believe that they also board pets. VCA accepts major charge cards. I highly recommend this business.”

“We have been coming here for years. The office has always been very responsive, willing to answer questions, and able to fit us in within a timely manner. We have a nervous dog who can be reactive. This is not the first vet office to manhandle our boy, but it is the first to insist on a muzzle. We assumed these were things we simply had to expect with our growly barky man. The care has always been efficient, although perhaps not always compassionate. I am leaving this review because I never expected that my reactive pup could ever have a positive visit to a vet. Dr. Walker showed me otherwise. This was our first time meeting her, as she's a relatively new addition, and she is quite literally wonderful: she entered the room slowly, gave my dog space, and spent at least the first 5 minutes down on the floor with him to build his comfort and confidence. She did not rush us. There were no muzzles. There was no growling or barking. She let me hold him during his vaccinations and gave me clear instructions on how to do so properly. Dr. Walker, thank you so very much for your genuine care, and for showing me that it is possible to find a compassionate vet for my sweet albeit nervous boy. You are in the absolutely right field.”

“I love this animal rescue ? in Newington. I saw this adorable male cat with striking coloring, so off I went on “Good Friday,” 2024. I filled the application out fast and sloppy because (2) guys were behind me and they were also interested in this fine feline. The decision was ultimately the cats. Michu was hiding under a blanket on a chair in an office. After a slight “bribe,” ? with “Delectables,” he came down off the back of the chair and put his foot on the toe area of my shoe. He picked me and we all grinned with joy. It was a textbook match-up. He’s living have ROH and the carpeted stairs he flies up and down plus all the windows and places to play and hide- He’s thriving and my heart is full- Thank you for a lovely matching process. Additional comment 10/2024- When sitting with staff, going over medical sheet, make sure to take it from them and read it yourself. They conveniently left out: “He has a history of not eating?” He had a radiograph X-ray showing his colon FULL of feces, and no enema was given. I’m having the worst time feeding him. He lived on Delectable’s while getting “fixed and chipped.” He barely ate and went 5 days without a BM! That’s a trip to the vet after 3 days. Handing me Science Diet cans and kibble on the way out with, “he won’t eat it,” came to fruition with 9 brands. I emailed their behavior specialist for advice. She thought I was trying to give him back but offered nothing on getting him to eat. It’s not his fault he wasn’t fed actual cat food, or cleared of his impacted colon. That’s a reason to not eat. I took him to (2) vets and both asked “why didn’t they give him an enema?” Doing what’s right isn’t always easy, but this was a set up for failure. I’d end up on a “do not adopt,” sheet for something others failed to do. Michu is use to this home and he’s comfortable and LOVED. He has tunnels and toys and a friend next door. The food thing is still a point of contention. READ THE MEDICAL REPORT in full so you can then ask questions that matter. It’s not “full disclosure,” if they hide ailments from potential parents of pets.”
