The Big Bad Woof
6960 Maple St NW, WashingtonShout out to Penny from The Big Bad Woof’s shipping department. My 14-week old poodle was holding me hostage in our apartment refusing to be carried or stay in the previous two carriers purchased. Since he isn't fully vaccinated, I remained stuck at home until my Sturdi carrier arrived. For the past few weeks the days has felt longer, especially with a puppy driving me mad! The zoomies, toilet paper raids, general interest in my plants and electric cords…this is a full time job on top of my full time job! Penny ensured that I received my carrier in a timely manner and busted me out here on a lovely Saturday afternoon lol. I can go enjoy my summer days now and Ro is getting a scenic view from his Sturdi carrier…which I love! I appreciate you Penny!

We had such a fun shopping experience with Karen. She was so knowledge about the right fit and types of things for my pups from collars, to harnesses to rain coats. I ended up fully stocked for all seasons and will absolutely be back for what felt like a custom shopping spree.

Howl To the Chief
719 8th St SE, WashingtonHey there! 😊
To whom it may concern, my name is Woo, and I'm known as the Navy Yard DogWhisperer.
I just wanted to share my thoughts about this place. Even with the recent management changes and price increases, I still absolutely love it here! I totally get that business is business and inflation affects us all, but I think a gradual price hike, along with a heads-up, would have been more considerate.
Now, let's talk about the great stuff! The staff is always excellent—super friendly and helpful! There's such a fantastic selection of items, from toys and wet/dry goods to harnesses, leashes, duck heads, hearts, liver, and even doggy yogurt ice cream and candles! I've been a loyal customer for over five years and signed up for their membership two years ago. I've earned a ton of points and received some fantastic free items, like 60 lbs of dog food, cans of food, and tasty treats.
Just wanted to say thank you for everything! 🐾

Unleashed by Petco
1550 7th St NW, WashingtonI love this Petco, the worker's are very helpful, they really know their stuff, like my kitten wouldn't use a new litter that was made with corn and things, and I didn't know what to do, so I went there and asked if anyone could tell me why, a gentleman worker told me why, and what to do about it, he was very helpful. Love, love this store!!!

Masterpiece Canine Spa
1642 R St NW, WashingtonA true five star experience. I was so nervous to bring my rescue for his first groom and Abby immediately put me at ease. Every single step of the process was transparent, from the complimentary consultation onward. Theo was immediately comfortable with Lauren, who did a phenomenal job finding the Scottie under 10 months worth of fur! Communication throughout was unparalleled. For me, not having to leave my dog at a groomer for six plus hours, wondering how they’re doing and struggling to get in touch to figure out when they might be done, is of the utmost importance. Masterpiece is the only groomer in the area that assuages these concerns. It’s clear that Abby, Lauren, and the rest of the team take a lot of pride in what they do and truly have the best interest of the dogs in mind. Thank you all for making Theo’s first groom such a positive one!
To address a concern in other reviews—I believe, sincerely, the pricing at Masterpiece is extremely reasonable for the services provided. I have yet to find another groomer in the DMV that provides a dedicated appointment time to one dog, texts questions and concerns immediately, and can also expertly craft a breed standard cut. You get what you pay for, and if you want personalized attention and professional quality, this is the price!

Pet Care

Veterinary Emergency Group
2311 M St NW, WashingtonIf it weren't for the fine folks at VEG, I don't think that our dog would be here right now.
We had a scary and super sudden health event that required immediate intervention - we called ahead to let them know that we were coming and they had someone attending to her before I had even parked our car. They were busy too! I saw at least 3 other pets ahead of us so that shows how well they triage.
They kept our dog for several days so that they could monitor her progress. We would get updates every morning (and would've probably received them in the evenings as well if we weren't already there). Visiting hours are 24/7 so you can visit your pets as you please. They're open and transparent about what they're doing, what kind of drugs they're administrating, what they plan to do, and what they recommend doing. The staff are friendly and clearly care for their patients.
Do be aware that you have to pay the full cost upfront - you'll be refunded for any services not rendered. The quality of care that you get is top notch.

Dupont Veterinary Clinic
2022 P St NW, WashingtonToday we took our dog Luna to the veterinarian, Dr. Logan Murray, and we had such a great experience. My husband and I live in Georgetown, and we had trouble finding a good vet for a long time — but we finally found DuPont Veterinary Clinic, and they were amazing.
Dr. Logan Murray is a genuinely kind and caring person. He treated Luna so gently and patiently, and Luna was very well-behaved thanks to how comfortable he made her feel. The examination was very thorough, and while discussing which vaccines Luna needed, he was extremely honest. If something wasn’t necessary for her, he said so and never tried to push extra services or take our money. That level of honesty really means a lot to us.
The assistants working there were also amazing — very professional, attentive, and kind. The clinic was spotless and very clean. This was our first time visiting, and we’re pretty sure this will be our regular vet from now on. Even the treats they gave Luna were great!
Thank you so much for everything. We highly recommend Dr. Logan Murray and DuPont Veterinary Clinic.

Adams Morgan Animal Hospital
2112 18th St NW #1, WashingtonFive stars, without hesitation.
Adams Morgan Animal Hospital was Bruno’s (Boston Terrier, currently 10 years old) very first vet as a puppy, and looking back, it is clear how much that early experience mattered. We now live in California and every vet tech we see consistently comments on how calm, easygoing, and cooperative Bruno is during visits.
I genuinely believe that temperament was shaped by the positive, caring environment he experienced at Adams Morgan Animal Hospital early on.
When we lived in Washington, DC, we would walk past Adams Morgan Animal Hospital regularly, and Bruno would happily pull toward the front door as if he was excited to go inside.
If you are looking for a vet who creates a truly positive experience for animals, especially dogs, I cannot recommend Adams Morgan Animal Hospital highly enough.

Patrick’s pet care was the second place I tried after the first groomer was too overwhelming for my senior pup and I am so happy I found this place! 1375 H St NE, WashingtonI wish this daycare will take adult humans. We're always greeted with smiles, even when it's 7am. My dog doesn't even look back when she goes in and she's absolutely exhausted when we pick her up. That last part is an impossible task. Capital Kitty Cat Resort
1632 17th St NW, WashingtonWe tried boarding our highly anxious cat for the first time while abroad so someone could give her the anti-anxiety pills every morning.
While our baby had a complete meltdown and became highly aggressive as soon as we left, the staff did everything they could to calm her and make her more comfortable. We were given updates on her status everyday and, at some points, were in even closer/more constant contact as we were concerned. At no point did they give up trying and when I came in early to pick her up, I could see just how much they cared for her and at no point did anyone blame her, they were so sympathetic to her anxiety kept reassuring me that she was not aggressive, she was just distressed, which is the exact mentality you would want from the people taking care of you pet for a weekend.
To the owners and staff, I just want to truly thank you all so much for the way you handled the situation and how you took such great care of our cat where many places would have given up with the behavior she was exhibiting.
For anyone looking to board their cat who can handle separation better, I highly recommend Capital Kitty.
